What makes a Drama film? - A drama film is essentially a drama film because of the way it makes the audience relate and sympathise with characters. - This can be done through a mixture of a cleverly written script, a heightened level of tension and good use of editing. Drama Themes - Current issues - Problems - Concerns - Injustices - Racial prejudice - Religious intolerance - Drug addiction - Poverty - Corruption of power - Alcoholism - Class divisions - Sexual inequality - Mental illness How a Drama film is structured? - A drama is structured In a specific way in order to keep the audiences attention and make them emotionally attached to the action. - To do this they have to structure the films to have climaxes and anti climaxes so there are peaks and troths in the tension. This keeps the audience interested and keeps their mind from wandering elsewhere. What are codes and conventions of a Drama? - Essential to have peaks and troths in the storyline - The character must be easily accessible for the audience (audience must be able to relate to the characters) - There is some form of realization, by the end of the film - Important the main character has clear relationships, to themselves and other people in the film.

While drama films rely heavily on this kind of development, dramatic themes play a large role in the plot as well. Often these dramatic themes are taken from intense, real life issues. Drama films aim to tell an honest story of human struggle. A dramatic film shows us human beings at their best, their worst, and everything in-between. Dramatic themes have been known to encourage much awareness to many current arising issues, problems, concerns that have been perceived within the media today. Our short film we have decided to convey the theme Drama as it is based on real life characters dealing with emotional problems. Dramatic themes such as drug addiction and bullying are common issues teenagers go through, therefore we have chosen bullying as it allows us to explore the insight of a teenagers mind. At the centre of a drama, characters are usually at conflict in a crucial moment in their life. From analysing other various dramas such as the pursuit of happiness and titanic, we have found that to recreate a bullying scene would allow the audience to sympathise with characters in the film as bullying is something that occurs on a daily basis. Dramas usually have a dramatic tone, yet important elements which provided awareness to the audience.
