MYP Computer Technology - Design Cycle 5. Evalute Stage: Evaluate your Digital Story
1.) Does your digital story solve the problem you faced in creating an animated version of your English essay? Explain your answer by discussing the problems you experienced and any limitations you may have experienced. My digital story was quite successful in following my English essay. I did come across a few limitations while creating it. The story in my English essay was long, so I had to basically create a summary of the main scenes in my Scratch animation. Another limitation that held me back a little bit was that in my mind I had pictured the animation to come out a certain way, specifically that it would flow more, but I could not make it as realistic as I wanted to because of some of the limitations of the actual Scratch software.

2.) Does any part, or all, of your digital story match the storyboard template you created? Explain - Look at your Digital Storyboard Template specifications to answer this question. For the most part I followed my storyboard template. The only major changes that I changed some of the backgrounds for a couple of scenes, as well as adding a few more sprites and costumes to enhance the story. I also took out a few things that I had put in the storyboard, which were mostly just background sounds such as wind and footsteps. I did follow it by keeping the main descriptions of the scenes the same. I also kept the main characters and their actions and dialogue the same. I think that all of the changes that I made to the digital story were necessary to make it look more complete.

3.) Have two (2) people test your digital story by watching your creation: What were the results of you testing to see if your digital story makes sense for your target audience? - To help you with this question consider: Did you need to explain anything to the person, could they follow your story without you having to explain it, or did they need to ask you questions? If your story was not clear, what was it that you overlooked? Get the person to give you feedback, and write that in your answer. You are looking to ensure your story makes sense to someone who has never seen it before.

Name of Person #1: Justice Feedback you received: It was great, but the written dialogue was sometimes too fast. The background descriptors of the scenes were sometimes distracting. It was cool in the first scene with the animals. I liked how Crooks dad came with the gun. Name of Person #1: Garreth Feedback you received: I liked how the animation was drawn by you. Liked the flashback of Crooks and his father. The movements were fluent. Liked the gunshot. The written dialogue was a little fast

4.) Explain the ways in which your digital story has and/or can make a difference to: Think of this in both the ways you learned how to make this digital story and imagine if everyone in the world got to watch your story. ie. Think about the micro- and macro- impact your digital story may have on: You must link what you learned in English to the way this story can be distributed using technology. Emailing the story, uploading it to Scratch and sharing it etc. i) You: Creating this digital story was a good experience for me. It allowed me to get to work on the Scratch software, and although we have worked with animation before, this was a little more complicated and challenging. Converting my story from English into an animated story was very interesting and it gave me more time to think about the actual story, and by doing this I could get a better idea in my head of what I wanted the characters and backgrounds to look like and act.Working on the software allowed me to get a better idea of what real digital animation is like, and the time it takes to create a story by using it, all of the small commands needed to make characters do simple things like move and speak.

ii) Other people and My digital story could make a difference to other people who see my animation. The biggest way that it could make a difference to people who see it, is that it could provide a little bit of entertainment for viewers. It could also allow them to see how animation software can be used to convert a piece of written work into an animated story. The animation could also inspire other people to try and create something using this software or even to read the book Of Mice and Men.

iii) Society both today and in the future. I do not believe that their are that many ways that my piece good make a difference to society as a whole, however there are a few small ways that it could make a difference. My animation displays an example of how a story can be portrayed more than one medium. My animation also shows how a project like this can be distributed. If I wanted to, I could send it to as many people as I wanted to, therefire allowing multiple people to be able to view it.

5.) How well did you do in the three (3) stages of this project? Write an honest account (reflection) of your performance during each stage. Design - This refers to the description of each scene in your Digital Storyboard Template I believe that I did very well in this category of the storyboard. I gave a good basic description of each scene in the storyboard, which is a part that I followed throughout my project. My descriptions gave an overview of each scene which is what they were intended to do. I do think that my descriptions could of been better if they explained a little bit more about the setting of their respective scenes.

Plan - This refers to your intended animation, use of sprites, background, sounds etc in the Digital Storyboard Template This part of the storyboard went well. There was some room for improvement. I should of added the background sprites into this stage of the storyboard, but I did do this later on. Another thing that I should of done is to think more about the backgrounds that I was going to use, specifically if I was going to draw them or just use one of the pictures from scratch.

Create - This refers to the create stage of your digital story. The creation stage of my digital story was alright. I worked quite well during class and at home. During the last week to work on the project I did find myself working a lot on trying to get the timing of the dialogue as best as I could. I did finish by the hand in deadline.

6.) List three very specification ways in which your performance can be improved in future Technology projects? This can cover planning, design, time management, asking for help, creating some unique, going beyond the expectations of the project, learning from others. etc. etc. etc 1.) One thing that I could do in future IT projects to enhance my performance, is to spend more time thinking about my plan stage so that I dont end up changing so much during my create stage.

2.) Another thing that may help me in my in future IT project, is asking for help, for example during this project I could of asked for help in perfecting the gunshot in one of the scenes to make it better and more realistic.

3.)

Another thing that may of helped me improve a future IT project would have been to have be a little more creative in designing my project, especially in the area of background. Although I did draw to of my backgrounds and draw over the rest of them, it might of been nice if I had drawn all of them.
