Dear Co-op Member, A General Meeting of the Kings Co-op Bookstore has been called by petition of its membership

for November 21st, 2012. Meeting location and time will be advertised around the campus, and posted to our facebook page and twitter feed. We encourage all co-op members to attend, as at this General Meeting we will be discussing changes to the Articles and Bylaws of the bookstore, as well as co-op member involvement, and promoting the bookstore to the wider community. Please review the following motions to be discussed at the meeting:

Motions to be put forward to the Bookstore General Meeting 1.1 Whereas the Kings Co-op Bookstore is a cooperative valuing the input from all of its membership; and Whereas staff are on the frontlines of customer service and feedback;

BIRT the Articles and Bylaws of the Kings Co-op Bookstore Limited be amended as follows; 10. Board of Directors: (a) The Board of Directors shall consist of seven (7) voting Directors. Three (3) of the voting Directors are to be elected from the general (i.e. nonstudent) membership of the Co-operative, and shall be elected for staggered terms of two (2) years, with the terms ending immediately after two annual meetings of the members. The remaining four (4) voting Directors must be registered as students of the University of Kings College at the time of their election, and are to be elected for a term of one (1) year, with the term ending immediately after the next annual meeting of the members. One (1) of these student directors must be an employed staff of the bookstore at the time of their election. These Directors represent a community of interest, and are to be elected by those Cooperative members currently registered as students of the University of Kings College. In addition, the Manager of the Cooperative shall sit as an ex-officio, nonvoting member of the board of Directors. The maximum number of consecutive terms a Director may serve is unlimited. BIFRT, until the next scheduled election of directors, a staff member be elected to an observer position on the board of directors, with this position to be terminated upon the next election of board directors. BIFRT ____________________ serve as a staff observer on the board of directors. 1.2 Whereas the Kings Cooperative Bookstore is facing serious financial pressures; and Whereas these pressures should be dealt with through a strategy exploring growth and innovation; and

Whereas the cooperative is the body best able to determine the appropriate balance between growth and cuts; BIRT a committee be struck to to produce a strategic plan designed to promote the growth of the Bookstore within the Kings and the Halifax communities; BIFRT this committee be named the Strategic Development Committee, and that it shall sit for a duration of 5 months; BIFRT the committee shall, in consultation with the the board, cooperative, staff and manager, develop a strategic plan to be presented to the general body for approval no later than April 1st, 2013; BIFRT the committee be composed of five co-op members, four of which shall be elected from the general membership, and one to be reserved for a member of the board of directors; BIFRT ___________, ___________, ___________, _____________, ____________ be ratified to the Promotions and Growth Committee for the 2012/2013 Academic Year.
