November 2012 Dear Parent/Carer ACTIVITIES WEEK 2013 S1 PUPILS During week commencing 27th May 2013, a programme

of activities and trips will run in place of the normal timetable. This programme has been arranged to give pupils experience of a broad range of practical/outdoor activities based around several curricular themes including Enterprise, Science, History, Geography and Outdoor Education. One of the main aims of the week is to promote Citizenship, through being out of school in mixed groups, meeting a variety of people and undertaking both group and individual tasks. The programme for 2013 is yet to be confirmed, as many bookings cannot be made at this early stage, however the structure of the week will remain as per previous arrangements and will include many of the same activities. Some of these activities will take place outside of East Lothian and in previous years have included trips to the Glasgow Science Centre, Dynamic Earth and the Outdoor Adventure Education Centre at Bonaly. Other activities are based in and around Haddington but may involve the use of outside specialists and instructors. Further information and a detailed schedule will be available in due course, however we like to give parents/carers as much time as possible to spread the cost of the payment. Information will also be available on the school website. We hope that all pupils will take part in Activities Week, and parents/carers should not feel that their child is unable to participate because of cost. We can offer financial support to families on State benefits. If you are able to provide proof of these benefits, we are able to offer you up to 30% of the cost of a package once a parental contribution has been received. Parents/carers should contact Mrs Ingham (Head Teacher) in writing in the first instance. Please note that pupil participation is dependent upon individual Points Totals (as at 17/05/13), behaviour, punctuality and dress code compliance. Parents/carers remain liable for the full cost of the package unless advised otherwise in writing by the Head Teacher. The cost of the S1 package is 55.00 per pupil. A deposit of 10 is required by 30 November 2012. Cheques should be made payable to East Lothian Council. A payment card is attached and this should accompany all payments and will act as your receipt. Payment can be made by the following methods: q Initial deposit of 10.00 to be paid by 30 November 2012. q One further payment of 45.00. Payment will be recorded on the payment card provided. q Variable weekly/monthly payments to be recorded on the payment card provided. The preferred times for making payments are on a Tuesday and Thursday before registration or at morning break at the desk in the S6/staff corridor (close to Reception). Outwith these times pupils should go to Reception to make payments. In all cases full payment is required by 10th May 2013 unless alternative arrangements have been made with Mrs Ingham (Head Teacher). For pupils unwilling or unable to participate, arrangements will be determined at a later date and details will be issued to parents/carers in due course. We hope that all S1 pupils participate in Activities Week, and we will work with pupils to ensure their Points Total is of a satisfactory level wherever possible. Parents/carers are asked to support and assist in this matter. The return slip and the green consent form attached should be completed and returned to the box at Reception by Monday 19th November 2012. Pupils should not give any forms or money to their Tutor or class teachers. If you have any queries or concerns please contact the School Office in the first instance. Thank you for your continued support. I am sure that all S1 pupils will enjoy Activities Week 2013. Yours sincerely J Taylor Activities Week Co-ordinator
