I. Overview
Degree Navigator (DN) is a view-only application used to assist you in assessing your progress in a
particular program of study. You’ll find it includes all course descriptions, course relationships, and
degree programs with the related requirements. You can access Degree Navigator at any time and
from any computer that offers an Internet connection. And as always, you should speak to your
Academic Advisor if you have any questions.
2. You will enter Degree Navigator from your student portal, clicking on the My Degree
Requirements link, located at the left side of the portal page in My Tools:
3. The screen below will be displayed. You are now logged into Degree Navigator.
NOTE: Degree
Navigator is
updated at the
end of every
semester.
In New York, DeVry University and its Keller Graduate School of Management operate as DeVry College of New York.
In Calgary, Alberta, DeVry University operates as DeVry Institute of Technology.

Clicking on the “ocean” will cause the individual courses to display in a course stack, as shown
below. The small boxes under each course stack shows the number of credits needed to complete
that sub-requirement, and the number of credits attached to the island reflects the total number of
credits needed to complete the entire requirement.

Clicking on an individual course bubble will cause a description of that course to display.
The pie chart in the center of the display shows graphically the number of credits required to
complete the program.

Understanding Your Academic Progress
Text Reports
You can view details of your academic progress either textually or visually. To select a text view,
click on the drop-down arrow on the [Degree Description] field. Various report titles will display
from which you can select one of the reports, which will describe your progress toward completing
your requirements.
Most of the reports show similar information in varying degrees of detail or with a different
emphasis. Two very helpful reports are the “Full Progress Report” and the “Full Report with Course
Status.”
The following is a portion from the “Full Report with Course Status” that shows a cumulative GPA,
the courses used to calculate it, along with the term this student took the courses, and the credits
that were earned.

Visualized Views of Your Academic Progress
As was stated previously, you can visualize your program by clicking on the [Visualize Degree]
button that appears to the right of the Degree Description Field.
The course stacks rise and courses that have been taken are now colored according to the legend
in the upper left margin. Those already taken are pink and those currently being taken are green.
You will note that the boxes at the base of each course stack and at each island have now changed
to indicate the credits earned as compared to credits needed (for example “3/3”). The pie chart
also reflects credits earned, compared to credits needed. When all visual requirements are
completed the word “Done” will appear in the pie chart, as the example above shows.

NOTE: The display above reflects an undergraduate program. If it were a Graduate
program, the island totals would show words instead of numbers. The island totals in that
case would indicate the number of courses completed or needed, not credits.
Courses that have been taken, but are unused for this program of study, are listed in the upper left
of the display. This would include Requisite Skills courses, failed or withdrawn courses, or courses
that do not apply to the current program. (They might apply to other programs in which you are
enrolled.)

You can also alter and view your progress as if you were in a later version of your same program
when you are in a visual mode by clicking on the version in the upper right corner of the screen.

“What If…” Situations – Change Your Degree Program
You can also use reports to play out “What If…” scenario in which you change your degree
program. You could perform a Degree Search (described in Section V. below) on a program other
than your own, then run a progress report to show how the courses you have already taken might
fit into that program. The report would compare the courses you have taken against the
requirements of the suggested program, and report what deficiencies would remain if you changed
to that program.
Course List
You can review your courses and grades by clicking on the [Course List] button either from the
top toolbar or by clicking on it on the right side of the screen.

Example of a Course List
The course list will show all courses attempted, regardless of whether they apply
to your program.
Courses will appear in sequence, with the most recent term/session first.
“Current” shown in the Grade column indicates that those courses are as yet
ungraded.
Courses that are marked “TRNFR” are transfer credits from another institution.
