Goal was magic says record-breaker Ben

DINNINGTONS Ben Tomlinson broke a League Two record on Tuesday night, as he netted in an incredible 6.4 seconds for Macclesfield Town. The striker, sold by Worksop Town in the summer for an undisclosed fee, beat three static Morecambe players before unleashing an unstoppable shot into the bottom corner from 25 yards. Tomlinsons side drew 1-1 with the league leaders, and currently sit 21st in the League Two table. The 21-year-old was delighted to get on the scoresheet so early in the game. Speaking after his third goal of the season for Macclesfield he said: It was a little bit of magic coming straight into the game and hopefully we can have one of them every week. Weve got Tony Diagne on the left-wing who is a big guy so everybody had shuffled to the left on their team. That left a big gaping hole so me and George Donnelly spoke about it saying theres a bit of room there, and so I said lets go for it. Tomlinson notched 29 goals for Worksop last season, and prior to his stint with Tigers had a spell in the Dinnington Under 19 side. Ive started five games and scored three goals so if can keep the standard like that I should do alright, he said.

Plenty of positive points for Waring

DINNINGTONS Jack Waring and the Scottish wheelchair basketball team may not have got the results they wanted at the UK School Games but the 16-year-old will take plenty of positives from the experience.
Waring, from Park Avenue, was part of a Scotland team that finished fifth out of six teams in the Sainsburys-backed event, held in Sheffield. Mum Lorraine told the Guardian that her son was thrilled to take part. It was a fantastic weekend, really good, she said. Everything was done really well for the kids, and he got a lot from the experience. Jack had an amazing weekend. The 16-year-old would have been part of the North Area squad, but with the majority of the Great Britain Under 22 side coming from that team, it was decided to split the players up to make a more evenly-contested tournament. Lorrain explained: It made it more interesting, he had to play alongside less experienced players and bring them on. Waring is taking his A-Levels at Dinnington Comprehensive this year, and looking forward to the Junior National Championship in October where he will represent Yorkshire Under 19s.

Poor start leaves Dinno with too much to do

A POOR first half left Dinnington Town with a mountain to climb on Wednesday, as they were beaten by Bottesford. The visitors were forced into a change as Jon Ropers unavailability gave Martin Wade a starting place. Club captain Andy Sykes returned to the bench after missing four games. The game started at a high tempo, with intricate passing by both teams. On eight minutes Bottesford had the first attempt on goal, Carl La Rocca driving over the bar. Then Andy Taylor saved the day with a headed clearance from a corner on 11 minutes when the home team looked to take the lead. But six minutes later Town failed to hold onto possession, Bottesford broke forward and an excellent effort by Scott Wilby went over Luke Hands into the far corner of the net for 1-0. Disaster struck in the final minutes of the half, as Town came under pressure on the right and Greg Andrews powered a low shot in off the post to extend the hosts lead. Before the interval it got worse for Steve Toynes men, Mark La Rocca running through the defence to score low past Hands. In the second half Town attempted a fightback, Danny McKenzie winning the ball in midfield before beating two defenders and poking the ball into the net to give the visitors some hope. Hands made a double save to thwart Bottesford with eight minutes remaining, first stopping Wilby who was clean through, then tipping Lee Bogners header over the bar. The stopper did well again in the final minute to save a point blank shot. Bottesford: Zane, Martin, Rates, Champion, Carl La Rocca, Ellerby, Andrews, Hutchison, Bogner, Mark La Rocca, Wilby. Dinnington Town: Hands, Fairweather, Beech, Ramsden, Taylor, Tinsley, Wade, Kay, Reet, Cartledge, McKenzie. The Phoenix Park side are set for a home double header next week, hosting AFC Emley on Saturday and Albion Sports on Tuesday night.

Mixed fortunes this week, so boss asks for more

TWO games in the last week for Rotherham United have brought mixed fortunes, and Andy Scott has not been resting on his teams strong start to the season. The 3-1 victory over Dagenham and Redbridge on Saturday was, at best, a drab affair. The Millers played an excellent 38 minutes during which all the games goals were scored. Many fans would have been happy with the win and another three points for the team so early on.

The Musing Miller

sport@worksop-guardian.co.uk Scott wasnt happy he wanted more from his players, a performance that lasted the whole 90 minutes. The boss will inevitably be disappointed with the teams performance in the 1-1 away Tuesday night fixture at Accrington Stanley. After taking a first half lead they were pegged back by an 83rd minute

equaliser. Accrington is never an easy place to go but with the way the team have been winning it would be wrong not to have backed them to hang on to their half-time lead. The team need to be able to show their managers passion when they get on to the pitch. They need to be fighting for every tackle, for every ball and for every half chance. Teams that can do this, for an entire season, get promoted. As the season matures into the

cold winter months it will be seen whether the group of players have the drive and ambition to get out of the league Rotherham have been floundering in for too long. Scott certainly has the passion and commitment to get this team promoted from the lowest professional league, hes been here and done it before. The lack of funds available to Scott and the smaller then normal squad he has available to him may also work to his advantage.

When he was sacked from Brentford earlier this year fans criticised the teams poor performances despite money being provided to purchase players. The resources that were provided to him were large. In his three years as manager of the Bees he used 88 players, thats almost 30 players a season. A smaller wage bill and a smaller squad may just be the thing that the club needs to get itself out of the division.
