Internet Etiquette

Etiquette in technology is the conduct that is socially acceptable in an online or digital situation. While etiquette is ingrained into culture, etiquette in technology is a fairly recent concept. Although certain rules have been established for correct etiquette while using technology, many users believe that current users are not as well-mannered in etiquette for digital devices, such as the computer or a cell phone.

Rules in e-mail
1. Not everybody can receive your fancily formatted emails. Some may even react furious. To be safe rather than sorry, send plain text emails only when in doubt. 2. Do you make these mistakes in your email subjects? (The key to getting your messages read is not to be clever.) 3. Forwarding emails is a great way of sharing ideas, but make sure the original idea is not hidden in obfuscation. 4. Email hoaxes often contain stories that are intriguing, and sure to irritate. Here's how to spot and stop urban legends. 5. Make sure you're not spreading worms and viruses via email or act as a vehicle for spreading spam. All this can be caused by malicious emails. Fortunately, there's protection.

Rules in forums.
1. Don't give out detailed information about yourself, such as your age, your telephone or mobile number or your home address even if people ask for it. 2. . If someone asks where you're from, it's best only to say a region or a town give anyone your home address. 3. The only name you should give out on the forums is your registered username or your first name. 4. Never send a picture of yourself, your family or your friends to anyone you don't already know and trust. 5. Don't post your email address on the forums. The last thing you want is people hassling you with email messages or adding your address to their spamming lists!

Rules in chat
1. Please remember when chatting in the Foyer that all members of the community are welcome to chat here. Please keep this in mind when chatting and discussing topics. Attacking adoptive parents or those hoping to adopt because they have adopted or hope to adopt falls in line with this. 2. Monitor decisions are final and are not open to debate. There are often behind the scenes details to which you are not privy. Certainly you can question or comment on a decision directly to a monitor via PM or to admin via email, but remember, it is not up for debate. 3. Discussing banned members is only allowed in the context of general discussion, but discussing the banning or reasons behind it are not allowed. 4. Members who require excessive reminders of the rules or whose participation results in excessive need for monitor/admin attention may be banned without warning. 5. Private Messages and/or e-mails that are exchanged privately, are not to be posted on the forums, in chat or in Private Message without consent of all parties involved. Discussions stemming from the topic of a Private Message or e-mailed conversation are fine, provided the above rules are followed.
