What if speed was the essence. : Aspect ratio 16:1 Rotating carbon mast, Square topped mainsail, Asymmetric tilted dagger-board foils, High aspect ratio rudder, Carbon canting wheel, U shaped hull, Aft center of Gravity, Huge bowsprit to fly large Code0 and massive asymmetric kite... Alibis DNA is definitively orientated toward very high performance : If you place the emphasis on lightness with a slim interior and the use of carbon, Kevlar, D4, Dynnema and others high tech fibers, you can turn your Alibi into a pure performance toy without compromising her ability to cross any ocean in comfort. Your Alibi sail at 8kt with 5 kt of wind... this unrivalled speed will allow you to sail most of the time. Electric propulsion, solar cells or rain water collection would make your Alibi even greener. Moreover, the Alibi Diesel genset and large battery bank already in place for the Electric propulsion allows to install all the comfort equipment you could dream of without major weight penalty: Air Conditioned, water-maker, washing machine, dishwasher, induction hob... truly turn your Alibi in a blue water cruiser. Anyway, Alibis goal is to design a boat perfectly matching your dreams. Thus, this document shall only be seen as the starting point of a really unique design ; your Alibi 54.

Weight saving:
In order to offer outstanding sailing performances AND all the comforts appliances AND sufficient payload for round the world cruises, the composite shell of your Alibi must be incredibly light. Here is the reason why we are using building techniques and materials usually restricted to racing crafts or aerospace vessels.

Finite element analysis of the structure stress

Truly high-end conception and construction

Composite structure optimized thank to finite element analysis:

The best materials :

Epoxy resin is 5 times more expensive but 30% more stiff and 2 times Fiber cloth Woven & unidirectional fiberglass fabrics always <600 g/m . more resistant than polyester and Hand laid and 100% vacuum-bagged or infused vinylester resins used in most of the Composite sandwich construction with 100% PVC foam core (Balsa or PU free!) cruising boats and catamarans. All the bulkhead and hulls assemblies are made with structural bonding and X-axis fabrics laminated under vacuum. Same figures for the carbon but the Main Chainplate entirely in carbon fiber built under vacuum and post-cured benefits of this materials as already Additional carbon fiber reinforcements in all the highly loaded areas (longitudinal been widely advertised. stringers, bulkheads, hulls and crossbeams omega stiffeners) 100% of your Alibi is built with Epoxy resin Same figures for the specific proper Mostly constructed over female moulds for perfect outer-skin ties of the sandwich construction. Nevertheless, it is important to pay Enhanced security: attention to the core materials as Sacrificial foam and glass false bow in case of impact honeycomb and reticulated PVC Watertight bulkheads to seal off bow and stern compartments stand well above balsa or PU foams. Absolutely free of any osmosis thanks to the epoxy resin As a bonus foam offers great phonic The Alibi 53 is virtually unsinkable due to its foam core volume, watertight and thermal insulation. bulkheads and buoyancy compartments fore and aft

Infinite painting options:

Super light and shinny paint:

Your Alibi is 100% painted. Get ride of the gel-coat generate a large sanding and spraying job but saves a lot of weight and gives you an infinite color range. Inside, most of the boat builders are hiding the composite skin with counter-molded parts or upholstery. Sanding and spraying all the interior generate another tremendous job but the weight saving is huge. Moreover, it gives healthy and easy to maintain surfaces

No Gel-coat, the Alibi is 100% paint to save weight and offers choices : White hull color Light hull color Dark hull color Metalic hull color Teak or Nonskid finish on deck Off-white interior color Satin interior color with a very smooth surface Oceanprotects copper Antifouling or an epoxy based one

First league hydrodynamic package

Daggerboard:
Asymmetric carbon fiber lifting daggerboards, post-cured in oven UD impact strapping laminated around daggerboard trunks Fully retractable daggerboards (3 draght) Upper and lower bearings in PEHD and POM

Asymmetric daggerboards
Here is the reason why your Alibi close haul like a monohull: the daggerboards are asymmetric like the wings of an aircraft. This curved shape improve theheading by 3 to 5. Amercicas Cup boats are curving their centerboard shape in the same way thanks to their trim tab. As a bonus, the Alibis daggerboards are canted inward and this angle is lifting the bows like a foil. Foil! The word is popular thanks to the flying moths or the 60 multihull floats. On your Alibi we are calling them asymetric daggerboard because they generate some lift like a foil and resist to leeway like a centrboard. Here is the reason why they are not C curved. A C shape foil is inefficient against leeway and shall be used in association with a centerboard. The only alternative shape on a catamaran is the S shape used by Alinghi during the last Americas Cup. C is not a good option.

Rudder & Steering:

Retractable daggerboard style rudders with draft reducible to 30 inch (75 cm) Upper and lower low-friction system Crossbar and connecting bars mounted on ball bearing Vectran steering cables leading to the crossbar for responsive steering

Highlight and comments:

Lifting the rudder in a casette is the only option for minimum draught AND responsiveness. The system is self-aligning. Alibi direct steering system restores responsiveness and lightness to your helm

Steering system options:

Canting wheel with carbon pedestal Carbon wheel Carbon crossbar Carbon rudder

Streamlined Aerodynamic
Sails and accessories: Highlight and comments:
D4 is a membrane sail cloth with oriented fibers. It is a top of the shelf technology that compares to the patented north 3DL. Hydranet is the best of the woven fabric. It is not a laminate and this specificity guaranty very long lasting sails. Assembled in radial orientation it offers great performance and very low creep.

Main sail: fully battened and square topped with (3 reefs) Solent with reinforced leech and UV protection Code 0 drifter with furling system Asymmetric spinnaker with furling system Strom Jib in Dacron double-ply

Sails fabric choices:

Main, Solent and Code 0 in Hydranet Main, Solent and Code 0 in D4

Mainsail storage options:

Lazy-jacks and stack pack for main sail Wide boom park avenue style

Highlight and comments:

The Code 0 drifter / spinnaker furling system is very convenient. Learn more about this feature on: www.facnor.fr

Extremely light rig

Spars and standing rigging:
100% carbon fibers mast, boom and streaders 71 ft (21.5m) rotating carbon mast with swept back spreaders Carbon boom with sheave box Spreader bars for lazy-jacks and sail cover attachments Gooseneck with stainless steel pin Carbon twin compression post and sprit Carbon fiber forward crossbeam Integral carbon fiber seagull striker Twin carbon fiber aerodynamic seagull strikers spreader High modulus Forestay (in the jib furler) Aramid cap shrouds with low profile turnbuckles Spectra lashing turnbuckles High modulus diamond shrouds with low profile turnbuckles Lazy-jacks and stack pack for main sail

Highlight and comments:

The majority of catamarans pitch excessively and pitching seriously impairs performance. Thus, all the weights in your Alibi are centered and we did place a lot of effort into saving weight for all the parts standing far from the center of gravity. Mast, boom and twin bowprit are obviously in this category and it justify to use the most sophisticated material and construction technique: Carbon pre-preg cured in a 5 bars Autoclave. This aerospace material gives your mast incredible strength and minimal deflection. Of course, such a high-tech mast can only match with high end shrouds. Here is the reason why we did chose the lightest material: Aramid.

Alibi SAS -52 chemin de la Bruyre 69570 Dardilly +33 970 44 88 25 - contact@catalibi.fr - www.catalibi.fr Alibi Co, Ltd - BANGNA-TRAD RD KM.52, THAKHAM, BANGPAKONG 24130 CHACHOENGSAO - Thailand

Deck layout
HR

Deck layout single-handled optimized :

Inspired by the Open60 racing trimarans, the boom of your Alibi is pushing forward on the trailing edge of the wing shaped mast in such a way that the mast orientation tack and gybe automatically. Moreover, all the controls lead toward the windward winch - just in front of the helm station. Thus, you can be alone on the deck and still have full control of your Alibi 54. It is even easy to tack or reef the mainsail alone.

Running rigging:

Deck hardware:

100% Harken blocks on the boat (various on the mast) 100% Spinlock clutches and jammers 100% Harken track and ball bearing car 2 upper aluminum 2 speed harken B48.2STA self-tailing winches 2 lower aluminum 2 speed harken B53.2STA self-tailing winches 2 winch handles with holders All control lines led to the cockpit including: Self tacking jib sheet: starboard lower winch 4:1 Mainsheet control: both top winches All halyard : both top winches 2:1 Traveller control back on both lower winches Daggerboards control lines: both lower winches Jib furling control: port lower winch Code 0 drifter / Spinnaker sheets: both lower winches Code 0 drifter / Spinnaker furling control: both lower winches Cunningham sheet: port top winch Both upper winches electric Both lower winches electric Quick release Up-side-Up cleats on the winches Electric and autonomous (auto-stop) daggerboards

Highlight and comments:

4 Electric self-tailing winches turn your Alibi into a smart push button yacht. Moreover, the deck layout do not need to be modified. The weight increase is a lit bit under 100 kg and the peak electric consummation is 6 kW. NEW - Harken just introduced a new electric winch capable of slowly easing the sheet with the push of a button.

Tender Ultra light Alu (28 + 19 + 19 = 66 kg)

V shaped Aluminum hull of 2m90 Electric engine (6 Hp) Lifted forward of the bridgedeck (under the jib track) the tender stand well above waterline and offers easy acces and perfectly located weight.

Tender 100% Inflatable (17 + 19 + 19 = 55 kg)

100% Inflatable V shaped hull of 2m90 Electric engine (6 Hp) Temporary storage on the net Long term storage deflated in the starboard stern. Outboard mounted on a dedicated support. 24V electric pump sized to quickly inflate the tender

Highlight and comments:

Tender with a powerful outboard (up to 50 Hp) has been designed for those who plan to use the boat as an exploration cat but also meet the requirement of those interested in wake boarding or water skiing. The ultra light 2m90 tenders fitted with an electric drive of 6 Hp are solving the question of gasoline. The tenders battery can be charged by the mother boat so that your tender is electric / diesel-electric.

Propulsion and electricity:

Diesel - electric propulsion:
37 kW genset designed for DE use The genset is located under the mast foot for perfect weight distribution. Maintenance access from the saloon. 140 gallon (475 liters) diesel tanks Fuel / water separator and filters Siphon breaks fitted to raw water lines to engines Exhaust fan and sea water filter in engine room Soundproofed engine compartment 70 amp/hr engine start batteries Engine panels with warning lights, alarm and engine hour meter Throttle control at the steering pod Twin electric drives of 20 kW each Electric engine access from the companionway floor Twin sail drives canted inward (draft reduced to 3) Twin foldable 3 blades propellers for minimal drag

Highlight and comments:

Alibi has been one of the very early fan of the DieselElectric revolution. Carefully studies and analysis lead us to the conclusion that this propulsion cannot compete with the classic diesel one in term of cost but the benefits truly balance this extra cost. Now that cars are all going electric and lots of boats are thinking about following this trend, Alibi is rewarded for this early move.

Electricity:

10 kW Deep cycle domestic batteries Electrical and batteries charge monitoring system Fire extinguisher in engine electrics bay DC distribution panel with circuit breakers Volt meters and amp meters to 24 Vdc systems Charger / synchronised inverters AC-DC AC distribution panel with circuit breakers 15 AC sockets in the saloon and the hulls All room equipped with LED lights LED navigation and anchor lights

Electric options:

Courtesy fans in the saloon and the bedrooms 2 Underwater lights in both sterns Tiny LED lights under the steps Strip-LED for indirect lighting of the ceilings Charger / inverter to connect boat AC with shore power Dedicated charger / inverter to connect the air-conditioned network with the shore power 900 W solar pannels

Water, plumbing, tanks...

140 gallon (475 liters) clear water tanks on port side 20 gallon (75 liters) water heaters (engine coolant loop & electric) Hot and cold pressure water system Electrical automatic sump pump for showers Sanimarin SFA; quiet flush electric toilets Hot and cold shower and basin and sink mixers Hot and cold outside shower in port stern All plumbing hoses are double clamped below waterline Bilge draining system including : hand pumps, electrical pumps and float switches 10 gallon (40 liters) black water tank on starboard

Highlight and comments:

Black water holding tanks are an issue when times come to clean the bilges. Regulations are making the black water tanks over-engineered with too many pumps and hose leading to the sea the deck and the tank. The final result looks really complex. The Lectra-scan is a small tank installed on the exhaust line and the using the salt of the sea (NaCh) to produce CHlorine and kill batteries. This equipment is not legal in restricted area (great lakes for instance).

Fluids options:

Dessalator water maker 220V (95l/h) lectra scan black water treatment on port 10 gallon (40 liters) black water tank on port Pumps to move water and diesel fore and aft like a ballast Pressurized sea water (galleys sink and deck cleanning) Peripherals collection of rain water around the bimini

Interior style is both simple and luxurious. The details must be refined with you but the goal is to highligh the volume and the simplicity of the boat with large white surface and associate details of clear carbon and AAA wood in order to reflect the performance DNA of the boat. Working surfaces would be Corian and/or Bolon.
