It will also counter the medical device tax in Obamacare by eliminating 5% of their global workforce, an estimated 1,170 positions.
Jon Stryker is heir to the Stryker Corporation, one of the largest medical device and equipment manufacturers in the world. Strykers grandfather was the surgeon who invented the mobile hospital bed. The company now sells (http://www.forbes.com/profile /jon-stryker/) $8.3 billion worth of hospital beds, artificial joints, medical cameras, and medical software every year. Stryker, a member of the Forbes 400 (http://www.forbes.com/profile/jon-stryker/) list, was one of the top five donors to the Obama campaign. Having donated (http://bigstory.ap.org/article/donors-dollars-top-5-fundraisers-obama) $2 million to the Priorities USA Action super PAC, Stryker also gave $66,000 in contributions to Obama and the Democrat Party. Prior to the 2012 election, Stryker contributed millions to help Democrat candidates in his home state of Michigan. He also gave nearly $250 million to groups supporting gay rights, transgenderism, and the conservation of apes. Stryker's corporation is part of an industry that has been a big loser (http://www.mmmonline.com/stryker-layoffs-blamed-on-obamacare-tax/article/247605/) at the hands of Obamacare. Having refused to get on board with the White House and the Senate Finance Committee when the law was being crafted in 2009, the medical device industry was punished with an excise tax of 2.3% of their revenues, regardless of whether they make a profit. Republicans in the House have attempted to repeal the excise tax with a bill called the Protect Medical Innovation Act. The Democrat-led Senate, however, has refused to cooperate, saying that withdrawing the tax would cause Obamacare to come unraveled. Last June, while the nation awaited the Supreme Courts decision on the constitutionality of the individual mandate, Stryker Corp. announced (http://www.mmm-online.com /stryker-layoffs-blamed-on-obamacare-tax/article/247605/) that it was tying plans to slash 5% of its global workforce to the tax if the law was upheld. Not only is he being screwed by Obamacare, but Obama is also not going to bat for gay marriage in his 2nd term(he is now a state's right guy regarding gay marriage). I feel for you MissJ. I went to Berlin, Germany in August with my brother. We had a great time. We met a lot of Germans and they were very friendly. We met a young German on the Ubahn from Karlshorst to Freidrichstrasse. Unlike most foreigners in the US, I don't discuss the politics of the host nation as I don't want to be a rude guest. I complimented the German on his wonderful country. He told us he is an Astrophysicist and he would be returning to a job at UC San Diego. He asked me what I thought of Germany and the cradle to grave government. I told him it seemed to work for them but I did not think it would work for the US as there are too many slackers deadbeats. He told me that it was great to get a free education, but that the problem in Germany is that if you really want to get ahead, you.........gasp......go overseas.....to.....gasp.....the US. This is a true story with no embellishments on my part. All the faux liberal intellectuals in this country don't seem to realize that Germans and Russians are not stupid and they somehow got conned into terrible situations. The same is happening here.

Mitt Romney said it best....."we already have universal care in the US" ...Yes Mitt we do, but it is the most inefficient system in the world, a system that will refuse an uninsured or under insured patient for preventive treatment, but ' the same hospital is mandated to perform life saving procedures when the patient's condition worsens and is in need of life saving procedures.....The hospital fully realizing the patient will never be able pay, performs the procedure anyway....Once the patient is sent home, the hospital sends the bill, 100, 200, 300++++thousand dollars, of course the patient can't pay, so they do what so many others have been forced to do...yep, that would be bankruptcy, the number one reason for bankruptcy in the US is healthcare costs.......Now the hospital needs to recoup it losses, so they go to the insurance companies and explain the need to increase rates to cover losses, the insurance companies go to the insured and raise their rates, higher rates leads directly to more uninsured and under insured, and over and over it goes, increasing costs like a snowball rolling down hill......

The tax raises $29B over 10 years. Medical device manufacturers have been making an absolute KILLING with their margins. Do you know how much they're charging in this country? Versus in other countries? Either we tax their windfall profits, put price caps on their stuff (like every other country) or continue to go deeper in the red on private and public health insurance plans. I say the tax is reasonable. 96 lost jobs are a cost of capitalism, fortunately we have a social safety net to help people get back on their feet.

This is just the beginning considering all the damage Republicans and Democrats have collectively done to the USA's economic foundation over the past 25 years. By the end of Obama's 2nd term in 2016, the majority of doctors will have quit or retired so decent healthcare will be almost impossible to come by. The progressives in both parties will claim that this will lead us to having fully socialized medicine while ignoring the fact that such systems only work, marginally at best in nations with strict immigration, pricing & service controls. They (correctly) do not let people into their country to take their benefits or jobs ...unlike the US. We are really worried and want out of the US...I wd rather live in a poor country that is on the rise (Costa Rica) than the US which is being destroyed but need to find a job somehow. Best friend is a Doc and she will NOT work under ZeroCare...will retire at 50 as husband is a doctor as well so they are set with money. I dont recall him discussing China but he may have... anyways - it did come to pass... and then some. Wow - that was 20 years ago already... I dont see these jobs coming back... Manufacturing may make some degree of comeback - only to the extent shipping costs and foreign labor increases / regulations increase... but not the low skill assembly jobs that so many folks were used to. I bailed on the mfg. industry - nowadays, there are fewer folks to fill the voids... after the Big 3 downsizings, the plant closings... folks simply would no longer trust thier job security to a vanishing industry... many have retired, others moved on to pastures with some grass... and there was no-one to come up behind them... go find a good PLC programmer / process control SCADA engineer... they are out there... but pickins are slimmer and slimmer...

Umm yeah, it's the typical among liberals. Vote for "x" issue e.g. identity politics, gay rights, healthcare or amnesty... in the long run find yourself with higher taxes, bankrupt municipalities, lower income or stagnation, or loss of job, etc.

When the white males find out what we heard today and posted above...mgr form major IT co (not Apple) indicated that white males in mgt under 45 are to be replaced with women and minorities even if they have done a great job. No joke...Obama's goal is to get revenge on whites and if you saw 2016 it explains why....Obama basically wants revenge for white colonialism and slavery even though we had NOTHING to do with it. This will be Affirmative Action on mega steroids...just read about it yesterday in detail and then stuff started happening today. It is also happening where my husband works on a massive scale...WH will come after companies that do not comply with law suits. This is reverse discrimination and it will be REALLY awful. although people can come to US from China and get minority status here...we cannot go to China or Canada and get a job.

Not only is he cutting food stamps but Obama is using corn for ethanol again which will send the food rates with inflation through the roof. Sadly many are on food stamps thanks to Obama advertising for them to get on them but the ones that really need them will now suffer.
