The purpose of this assignment is to: Enable you to demonstrate your understanding of reaction rates and the factors that affect reaction rates

Scenario: You are a chemist at GlaxoSmithklieneBeetcham in Beckenham, you have been asked by your boss to explain to the technical chemists the factors which affect rate, yield and atom economy of reactions. You need to carry out experiments and collate data on chemical reactions in order to explain all the factors which make the reaction go faster, maximize yield and optimize atom economy Task 1 You need to investigate how concentration affects reaction rate, write up the experiment and express your results as a graph (concentration vrs time). You need to investigate one other factor i.e. temperature or presence of a catalyst and write it up with your results. You need to produce a report explaining all the factors affecting reaction rate and how, You can include diagrams and should be easy to understand To achieve the merit criterion you need to investigate how changing the rates of reaction affects certain industrial processes i.e. Haber process etc To achieve the distinction criteria you need to include an analysis of how different factors affect the yield of an industrial reaction i.e. Haber process etc This provides evidence for P5, M5 & D3
