The purpose of this assignment is to: Enable you to appreciate forms of energy and energy transformations that occur in the home or workplace, using practical investigation and calculation methods

Scenario: You are an Energy conservation technician within EDF, you have been asked to investigate energy transformations and calculating the efficiency of typical household and workplace devices and produce a report explaining efficiency and the environmental impact. Task 1 Carry out practical investigations that demonstrate how various types of energy can be transformed and calculate the efficiency of the energy transformations. To do this, set up the practical equipment to safely investigate the following energy transformation devices: An electric motor A filament bulb Produce a risk assessment for each activity using the forms provided. Your teacher will provide a witness statement to confirm that you carried out the experiments safely and correctly Produce a report for each experiment, including a list of equipment and apparatus used, your method, a table of your results and your calculations of the efficiency of each device. From the results you obtain, show by calculation how efficient each device is in transforming energy from one type to another This provides evidence for P1and P2 Task 2 For both of the practicals undertaken for Task 1, describe the energy transformations that have taken place, using both block and sankey diagrams. Comment on your findings in regards to the efficiency of the transformation process in both these investigations. This provides evidence for M1 Task 3 Drawing on the results of your investigations, and other research, explain how energy losses due to energy transformations in the home or workplace can be minimized to reduce the impact on the environment. You should provide an explanation on how you may be able to increase the efficiency of devices, such as by reducing heat loss, and information about whether there are alternative devices available. SDN Present your work as an information leaflet for consumers in the home and the workplace, providing advice on how to reduce the overall environmental impact
