4A Bonding in Chemicals

The purpose of this assignment is to: Enable you to demonstrate your understanding of the different forms of bonding including ionic, metallic and covalent

Scenario: You work for a company that has to identify types of chemical substances so that they may be disposed of safely. You need to produce a poster which allows the user to clearly identify the properties of ionic, covalent and metallic bonded compounds Task 1 You need to carry out a practical to identify the properties of each of the types on bonding; you need to briefly describe the properties of each type of bonding then your results and conclusion. You also need to include a risk assessment. To achieve the merit criterion you need to produce a poster / report describing the characteristic properties of each of the types of bonding, you should include diagrams To achieve the distinction criterion you need to explain how you would be able to distinguish between each type of bonding using your results i.e. electrical conductivity and write this as a guide for technicians. You also need to explain how your method works at the atomic level i.e. delocalized electrons This provides evidence for P1, M1 & D1
