Assignment Title 4B Hot or Cold In this assessment you will have the opportunities to provide evidence against the following criteria. Please indicate the page numbers where the evidence can be found
Criteria reference P2
To achieve the criteria the evidence must show that you are able to: Carry out experiments to investigate exothermic and endothermic reactions
Task No

4B Hot or Cold
The purpose of this assignment is to: Enable you to demonstrate your understanding exothermic and endothermic reactions and their associated temperature and energy changes
Scenario: You are a scientist working for the ministry of defense and have been asked by the army to give advice on using chemical reactions to heat and cool food. Task 1 You need to carry out a practical to measure the changes in temperature for 4 reactions. You also need to include a risk assessment. You need to write up the experiments, with results table and conclusion stating if energy was given out or taken in (exothermic and endothermic). You also need to include a risk assessment To achieve the merit criterion you need to explain the energy changes you would expect to see in an exothermic and endothermic reaction in your own words To achieve the distinction criterion you need to explain bond making and bond breaking and relate it to energy taken in and given out then relate to endothermic and exothermic reactions. You also need to write guidance notes for the commanding officer (relate to scenario) advising the army on how to heat or cool food most effectively when soldiers are marching from one place to another. This provides evidence for P2, M2 & D2
