The purpose of this assignment is to: Enable you to demonstrate your understanding of the uses of organic compounds and the drawbacks and benefits of these uses

Scenario: You are a journalist working for the local television station which is running a public awareness campaign on how organic chemicals are used routinely in society. You need to produce a report for recording or record your presentation (podcast or video). Task 1 You need to draw the general formulae and a couple of examples of each of the following: alkanes, alkenes, alcohols and carboxylic acids. You also need to include a couple examples of each To achieve the merit criterion you need to describe the use of alkanes as fules, the use of alkenes and substituted alkenes in the production of addition polymers, two uses of alcohols and a uses of ethanoic acid (carboxylic acid).
