13A The Scene of Crime

The purpose of this assignment is to: Enable you to demonstrate your understanding of how to effectively process a crime scene to collect valid evidence for taking to court

Scenario: You are a Junior member of the crime scene investigation team working for the North Mercia Police Authority. There has been a break in at the local school and as part of the team you must plan, process, record and collect evidence from the crime scene so that you may be able to apprehend the people responsible Task 1 For this assignment you will be explaining how forensic scientists initially evaluate a crime scene and collect evidence for investigation You need to read the essential knowledge and data pack You need to complete the booklet crime scene investigation in class in teams and keep this as it will be evidence of your completion for your portfolio You will be shown the crime scene from the school you will need to conduct an initial search, record the scene and target at least 4 different forms of evidence. For each of the 4 types of evidence , use techniques and procedures you think are appropriate to conduct a search, record and document, collect and recover (preventing contamination) and package and label Write a short report to describe the techniques that you used to process the crime scene (bullet point this) and to explain how they enabled you to obtain valid forensic evidence. You will also need to include risk assessments (look at collecting fingerprints, blood, hair and fibers). This provides evidence for P1 & P2
