Understandings: Students will understand what life was like in the early colonial times. Students will understand what education was like. Students will understand the types of jobs that were available.

Essential Questions: What was life like in the early colonial times? What was education like in early colonial times? What were the different types of jobs in the early colonial times?

Students will be able to Compare and contrast education today and in colonial times Identify different jobs in the colonial times

Performance Tasks: Students will go on a Scavenger Hunt to find different descriptions of trades in the early colonial times. Stage 3 Learning Plan


Learning Activities: W-The students will listen to a story called If You Lived in Colonial Times by Ann McGovern in social studies and ELL. They will view a Thinglink http://www.thinglink.com/scene/306604551811629058?buttonSource=userPage about the early American schools, and do a scavenger hunt on the different trades in Early America. This lesson will help them get ready to have a better understanding when they begin reading the chapter book, And Then What Happened Paul Revere. H-To hook the students I will tell them that later they will be working with partners to go on a scavenger hunt. E- To have a better understanding of colonial life students will: Identify differences in schools back then and schools today by looking at a Thinglink about early schools Use the computer to help locate information about Early Colonial America Assess learning through conducting the scavenger hunt. R- Assessments Assessment though observation and the final evaluation of the Scavenger Hunt E-Working with a partner the students will complete a scavenger hunt after the lesson using the web site http://www.history.org/history/index.cfm The student will compare findings at the conclusion with fellow classmates. T-Students will be asked during the lesson to name similarities and differences in Colonial America and present America. During the lesson the students needs will be met by kinesthetic and tactile movement. The students will also be paired with a partner. O-Hook Read Essential Question and discuss standards. Reflect that there were major Differences in education and jobs in the colonial times and today.
