Says conservative Democrats are a dying breed
Dr. Lee told her supporters

First, let me say a hearty thanks to all of my supporters. Those who prayed for me, volunteered, and donated to my campaign, thank you! While this was my first campaign for elected office, I have been a political junky all of my life and have known that I would run for office someday as I believe that political service is my lifes purpose. I ran as a conservative democrat because that is what I have always considered myself. I was disappointed when conservative democrats became a dying breed in Washington and even in Georgia. However, since the primaries, the Democratic platform has become even more liberal, embracing views that are different than my conservative values of pro-Life and anti-gay marriage. So it is with a heavy heart that I leave the Democratic Party for the Republican effective today.

On the heels of her failed bid as a Democrat for State Senate District 17, Nelva Lee announced her switch to the Republican Party. Lee, who lives in Locust Grove, ran for office as a conservative Democrat but said she has become disillusioned with Democrats across the board. Really, its a matter of my values not being in sync with the Democratic Party anymore, she said. I ran as a conservative Democrat because that is what I have always considered myself. I was disappointed when conservative Democrats became a dying breed in Washington and even in Georgia. Lee said the Democratic platform has become more liberal and contradicts her pro-life, anti-gay marriage views. She said she plans to run against Jeffares again in the 2014 Republican primary. I am encouraged in this endeavor by many Republicans who wished to see me run as a Republican in this past race and who pledged their support if I chose to run again on the Republican ticket, said Lee.

The Battle Has Been Joined!

On the morning of December 14th, at a specially-called meeting without allowing any public comment, the Cobb County Board of Commissioners voted 4-1, to put a four-year SPLOST on the ballot in a special, stand-alone election for voter approval on March 15, 2011. For weeks, the Commissioners had been debating amongst themselves whether the SPLOST would be a six-year, then a five-year, and finally a four-year continuation of the current SPLOST.

They made their decision.

Now, it's time for us to respond.

On Saturday, January 8, 2011, the Cobb County Taxpayers Association (CCTA) will be hold a Vote No March 15 meeting from 12 to 2:00 p.m. at Piccadilly Cafeteria at 536 Cobb Parkway in Marietta, to launch our public campaign to defeat the SPLOST. At the meeting, we will lay out our campaign, and provide you with the available options for you to pursue as part of a coordinated response. This is a lunchtime meeting, and we encourage you to dine with us at Piccadilly as we lay out the strategy and volunteer efforts for the next 10 weeks until the election. Please join us in attending this meeting and be part of a movement which will re-shape the direction that Cobb County Government will take in the months and years to come; a direction which will reduce taxes, reduce spending, and make our elected officials responsive to the will of the people.

Denny's Joins Growing List of Restaurants Considering 'Obamacare Charge'

On Tuesday, we wrote about Papa John's CEO John Schnatter coming under fire from left wing groups for speaking out against the new fees and taxes that will be imposed on his company because of Obamacare. He's not the only one. An owner of 40 Denny's Restaurant franchises says the new Obamacare fees will be passed right along to customers and employees.

Lt. Gen. Mcinerney on Benghazi: Whoever gave the stand down order is responsible for killing ambassador
Lt. Gen. Tom Mcinerney asked are we brain-dead? and says that we should have had ISR (intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance) assets over Libya before the 9/11 attacks ever happened, especially given the fact that radical Islamists were told by Al-Qaeda chief Zawahiri to take out Americans in retribution for our killing of Abu Yahya al-Libi over the summer. But the most disturbing part of this he says is that during the 9/11 attacks we didnt even try to save to save our people in Libya, that we didnt do anything. In fact he goes on to say that whoever gave the stand down order to our forces at the annex in Benghazi is responsible for killing Ambassador Stevens and Sean Smith because he believes its highly possible that the small force from the Annex could have disrupted the attack and likely saved our Stevens and Smith.

Petraeus: Talking points on Benghazi edited to play down terrorism

On Friday, General DAVID PETRAEUS told the House Intelligence Committee that he knew almost immediately that the attack on the Benghazi consulate was an act of terrorism, and the TALKING POINTS given to U.N. Ambassador SUSAN RICE were edited to PLAY DOWN THE TERRORIST ATTACK. After the 90-minute meeting, Rep. Peter King (R-NY) met with reporters. "The original talking points were much more specific about al-Qaeda involvement and yet the finals ones just said 'indications of extremists.' It said 'indicate' even though there was clearly evidence at the CIA that there was al-Qaeda involvement," he said. When asked why the talking points were changed, King said it was a matter of "process." "They just said it goes through a process, an inter-agency process and when they come back that had been taken out," he said. The talking points used by Rice and defended by the administration laid the blame on an online video critical of Islam. This is a response to a hateful and offensive video that was widely disseminated throughout the Arab and Muslim world, Ambassador Rice TOLD NBC's "Meet the Press" shortly after the attack, contradicting a statement by Libyan President Mohammad Magarief.

THE CITIZENS VIEW Intel officials unable to say who changed CIA talking points on Libya
Former CIA Director David Petraeus stoked the controversy over the Obama administration's handling of the Libya terror attack, testifying Friday that references to "Al Qaeda involvement" were stripped from his agency's original talking points -- while other intelligence officials were unable to say who changed the memo, according to a top lawmaker who was briefed. Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., told Fox News that intelligence officials who testified in a closed-door hearing a day earlier, including Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and Acting CIA Director Mike Morell, said they did not know who changed the talking points. Petraeus' testimony both challenges the Obama administration's repeated claims that the attack was a "spontaneous" protest over an anti-Islam video. ~~~~~~~~~~~ Our 2...... David Petraeus is a 40-year veteran with exemplary service to and for our country. Yes, he took a political appointment to the CIA but you cannot become a four-star general without knowing the realities of politics. A person with his career, training and dedication offers up a lifetime for us to judge his character. An 3 month long extramarital affair at this late stage is but a blip on the radar, but it was strong enough to challenge his fitness for the office he held. Democrat senators emerged from the hearing saying Petraeus was wrong - nobody at the White House would change the intel report. Susan Rice did not lie or mislead anyone. Given the smell test, gut reaction and common sense I will take General Petraeus at his word. NOBODY in this administration offers up the same level of dedication, honor or credibility. AND I DO BELIEVE Susan Rice said and did exactly what the President and his campaign staff told her to say. We all watched and read and heard the Benghazi news unfold. We all knew Rice and the WH were covering up. We all know it now. MICHAEL HARRIS COMMENTED: Petraeus testifies that basically, the outlandish lie that That the OBAMA White House and Susan Rice told about the anti-Muslim you tube video sparking the attack did not come from the CIA.

Which explains why he was attacked, smeared, and fired.

Deal: Georgia will not set up state exchange

Governor cites unknown costs, lack of flexibility in Obamacares federal regulations
Gov. Nathan Deal today informed the Obama administration that Georgia will not set up its own health care exchange, citing Obamacares one-size fits all approach and the high cost that the law places on states. I remain committed to common sense health care solutions that empower consumers to take responsibility for their own health, motivate the private sector and drive efficiencies for consumers, employers and governments alike, Deal said. I continue to hope that we might finally engage in a serious conversation about restoring meaningful flexibility to states around health care programs. Deal said the federal government needs to loosen regulations that restrict states options. We have no interest in spending our tax dollars on an exchange that is state-based in name only, Deal said. I would support a free market-based approach that could serve as a useful tool for Georgias small businesses, but federal guidelines forbid that. Instead, restrictions on what the exchanges can and cant offer render meaningless the suggestion that Georgia could tailor an exchange that best fits the unique needs of its population. I have joined numerous other governors seeking guidance from the federal government on establishing exchanges. Weve yet to receive serious answers to our questions. I will not commit Georgia taxpayers to a project with so many unknowns.

Nullification Goes Mainstream; States Defy Washington on Drugs and Health Care
As the federal government gradually assimilates the rest of the country, a few states have begun to fight back. From the Kansas City Star:

The Nullification Movement One thing overlooked in the uproar surrounding the election is the nullification of federal narcotics law in Washington state and Colorado. If these laws are allowed to stand without challenge from Eric Holders Justice Department, then the green light is on for nullifying any federal law including ObamaCare. Nullification is based upon the principle that is best described in the words of Thomas Jefferson in the Declaration of Independence: Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed This simple statement asserts that no government may impose its will upon the people without their consent and that if the people make it known that they do not consent then the imposition is nullified. The very first time that a nullification resolution was passed in our history was the Kentucky Resolutions of 1798 to nullify the Alien and Sedition acts. The author of this resolution was Thomas Jefferson, who had to write the resolution in secret because if it were known that he was opposed to these acts, he would have been imprisoned, even though he was vice president at the time. Jefferson had help from another of the founding fathers, James Madison. Madison wrote the Virginia Resolution, which nullified the Alien and Seditions Acts in Virginia. These nullification resolutions were never tested in court since in the next presidential election Jefferson became president, repealed the laws and pardoned all those who had been imprisoned under the Alien and Seditions acts. The idea of nullification became popular again in the decade leading up to the War Between the States as many northern states nullified fugitive slave laws. Now two western states are using the principle of nullification against federal narcotics laws to legalize marijuana for recreational use. Both Colorado and Washington had legalization measures on the ballot, and the measures passed. If the federal government does take action, it will likely be via lawsuit. They will argue the Supremacy Clause of the constitution. But the Supremacy Clause is not a slam dunk as some would have you think. In Federalist Paper #46 titled, The Influence of the State and Federal Governments Compared, Madison comments on the idea of supremacy: These gentlemen must here be reminded of their error. They must be told that the ultimate authority, wherever the derivative may be found, resides in the people alone. Ultimately, if the federal government loses, then nullification will be used to do away with many overreaching federal laws, such as the Endangered Species Act, which has shut down agriculture in California, or to the Clean Air Act, which threatens to cause rolling blackouts across the nation.
