Proceedings of the 4th International Conference on

Nanostructures (ICNS4)

12-14 March 2012, Kish Island, I.R. Iran

The thickest stable and transparent film had a thickness of 11 nm. Their surface morphology, phase transformation, transparent, surface characteristics and thickness films were studied using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and atomic force microscopy (AFM), respectively. The hydrophilic property was evaluated by measuring the contact angle of a water droplet on the films. Phase transformation from amorphous to anatase occurred at 450C. Increasing in Fe (III) loading led to a reduction in the anatase phase and with the formation of weaker and broader of diffraction peaks. Surface morphology of the prepared is clearly observed with increasing calcination temperature. Hydrophilicities decreased with increasing calcination temperature or increasing Fe (III) loading. The combination of 2.5% ratio atomic of Fe (III)/TiO2 with ultrasonic irradiation gave the highest hydrophilicity activity in the sol - gel solution. VO2 nanostructures have been synthesized in a controlled manner via hydrothermal methods by using cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) as surfactant, by adopting NaVO3 and NH4Cl as initial precursor and time as adjusting parameter. The products were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images and X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern. The evolution of composition and morphology during the time has been investigated. NaV3O8 was investigated as initial product and this precipitation turns to V6O13 and VO2 during the time. The final products are nanolayers of VO2 with 300 nanometer width and 30 nanometer thicknesses. This specific morphology is obtained due to the role of CTAB. Keywords: Hydrothermal; CTAB; Vanadium dioxide; Sodium metavanadate.

Nowadays, engine oils have an important role in reducing friction and wear of engines and consequently increasing their power. Nanotechnology recently has been entered to this field where nanoparticles can be used as an additive to the engine oil to improve its properties. In this study the effects of Tio2 and CuO nanoparticles on the properties of API SC engine oil were investigated. The nanoparticles were dispersed by ultrasound waves and magnetic stirer. These added nanoparticles to the lubricant, for example TiO2, decrease pour point by 50%, increase flash point by 17% and increase total base number (TBN) by 41%. In addition, investigations were also performed on tribological properties and effects of nanoparticles on the lubricants viscosity. Keywords: Nanoparticles; Lubricant; Tribology; Ultrasonic SYN 161

The nanostructured NbSi2 intermetallic compound was produced by mechanical alloying of the Nb-66.6 Si elemental powder mixture in a planetary high energy ball mill. The powder particles were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and microhardness measurements. It was found that a Nb(Si) solid solution was formed at the early stage of milling, followed by the formation of Nb5Si3 and Si phass at longer milling times. The C40-NbSi2 structure with the grain size of about 15 nm was formed via a gradual reaction after 90 h of MA. A thermodynamic

Ca2Co2O5 nanoparticles were synthesized by a modified sol-gel method. The characterization of the prepared powders was performed using X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and UV-Vis spectroscopy techniques. Metal nitrate precursors were used as starting materials and gelation was used as a polymerization agent. XRD patterns show that the single phase of perovskite orthorhombic structure of Ca2Co2O5 is formed at 700oC calcination temperature. With increasing the temperature, secondary phases is appeared. The average size of the particles calcined at 700oC is about 70 nm. The value of the energy band gap obtained is 3.93 eV, using the UV-Vis absorbance curve. analysis of the process was also done. Enthalpy of mixing of the NbSi binary was calculated using Miedema function. The results showed that the intermetallics compound of Nb-Si system had the minimum Gibbs free energy compared to solid solution and amorphous states.
