Al matrix composites have high potential for use in aerospace industries due to their density, high specific strength, wear and fatigue resistance. Elemental Al and Cu powders were subjected to mechanical alloying (MA) to produce Al-4.5%wtCu powder alloy as matrix. The morphological and micro structural changes during mechanical alloying process were studied. The powders were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). After producing the matrix, WC nano-particles were added to Al-Cu alloy in different weight fractions to explore the role of reinforcement nanoparticles on the properties of nano-composite. The hardness of hot pressed specimens was then measured .The results showed that hardness of nano-composites improved as the weight fractions of WC nano-particles were increased. method. The LDH structure was characterized by X-Ray Diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Scanning electron microscopy, STA, CHN and inductively coupled plasma (ICP) techniques. The in vitro release profile of nanohybrids was analyzed by UV-Vis spectrophotometer. It was concluded that the present biocompatible hydrotalcite-like compound can be an excellent host material for encapsulating mesalazine (5-amino salicylic acid) and can play a role as a delivery for controlled release. Testing of the pillared materials with different layer composition shows that the drug release from Mg-Al-ASA-LDH is different from Zn-Al-ASALDH. The Mg-Al-ASA-LDH intercalation compounds have the advantage of gradual release over a longer period of time. The ac current versus voltage of Cu nanoparticles embedded in carbon films shows a non ohmic behaviour up to metallic state for these films. Frequency dependency of resistivity was fitted very well with impedance model of electron transport in the core metallic section of nanoparticles in series to hopping between metallic nanoparticles as the leakage current in a capacitor made of surface of two neighbouring nanoparticles filled with amorphous carbon. Obtained time of flight in Cu core is some order of magnitude larger than the one for bulk. Keywords: Cu nanoparticles; AC conductivity SYN 084

This study deals with synthesis of Si-carbon nanotubes (SiCNTs) composite from SiO2/CNT via sol-gel method. Homogeneous distribution of carbon nanotubes within silicon matrix was obtained by mixing the functionalized carbon nanotube (CNT-COOH) sol in water-ethanol solution with colloidal silica sol under ambient temperature. Furthermore, synthesis of SiCNT was achieved by using different ratios of multi-walled carbon nanotubes and various concentrations of colloidal silica. Powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used for studying the microstructure and morphological characteristics of the synthesized SiCNT hybrids. The results are shown that the morphology of synthesized SiCNT will be differing with respect to ratio of precursors, amount of silica sols and pH value. The average of particle size for each sample of synthesized SiCNT nanocomposite was smaller than 90 nm. SEM images are shown various structures and uniform patterns in various samples. Furthermore, the capability of hydrogen storage of SiO2/CNT and SiCNT hybrides were determined in this research. Keywords: SiCNT nanocomposite; Sol-gel; Hybride; Hydrogen storage capacity SYN 086

Layered double hydroxides (LDHs), or so-called anionic clays, consist of cationic brucite-like layeres and exchangeable interlayer anions, can evolve into bio-LDH nanohybrids, including vitamins, drugs and DNA strands as well as simple organic acids. In this research Zn-Al-LDH, Mg-Al-LDH with molar ratios of 2:1 for Zn:Al and Mg:Al containing 5-amino salicylic acid (5-ASA) was synthesized by co-precipitation
