Series production of the FL 2500 is starting up

In autumn 2006, after almost two years of development and preparation, Fuhrlnder constructed a wind power installation with the highest hub height using an FL 2500 on a 160 m high lattice tower.

Dear potential purchasers, customers and friends!

This innovative 2.5 mW installation, with a total height of over 200 m, can be seen from miles away from its location in Sdbrandenburg near

The climate change is currently a much talkedabout subject. A new scenario appears every day numbers, predictions, statements from politics, research and commerce are all speaking loud and clear. It is time to do something to reduce CO2 output. With this in mind, Europe wants to increase the proportion of renewable energy to at least 20%. It is obvious that wind power will play a large part in this, which results in a very comfortable situation for all manufacturers. We have a good position as an independent equipment manufacturer with installations of up to 2.5 MW. The fact that our robust plant engineering runs extremely reliably has been shown by the extremely high wind speeds over the last few weeks.

Cottbus. It is intended to produce more than 6 million kilowatt-hours of clean wind power every year. The first months of operation have already shown that these values will be achieved.

The FL 2500 achieves its nominal output of 2.5 megawatts with ease using its huge 90 m rotor. This means that the design concept using a 160 m high pylon has borne fruit. The rotor rotates in the so-called Ekmann layer thanks to its currently unbeaten height, which means that the wind yield is considerably higher. It is, therefore, no surprise at all that the new Fuhrlnder installation has been powerfully converting the wind in Lausitz into clean wind power since autumn 2006. After its commissioning and optimisation phase during September and October, the FL 2500 has been purring so reliably that it has been recording over 600.000 kWh on the power meter every month. In the meantime, a follow-on project has been started near Giffhorn in Lower Saxony. Two installations with 100 m steel tubular towers have already been erected. A total of 8 new Fuhrlnder installations with

100 m high rotors are to be connected to the grid here. The FL 2500 is available as standard with hub heights of 85 m up to 160 m. Rotor diameters of 80, 90 and 100 m allow these multi-megawatt installations to be adapted to the wind conditions prevailing at each location. The onshore machine can be safely transported and erected in the main using existing infrastructure (roads, HGVs, cranes). Orders for over 150 machines up to the end of 2008 have been received in the meantime, mostly from Europe. Overseas investors are Even the prototype on the 160 m lattice tower (above) is above expectations with respect to reliability and performance. A wind park is currently being constructed in North Germany using the FL 2500 on steel tubular towers with rotor diameters of 100 m (r).

World-record: FL 2500 prototype on 160 m lattice tower

Fuhrlnder constructed multi-megawatt installation with over 200 m total height.

The first FL 2500, with over 200 m total height, is setting new standards both technically and optically in the Brandenburger flatlands. It was, however, a really hard job to erect this installation especially under the difficult weather conditions experienced last summer. The multi-megawatt installation has been operating reliably right from the start, and has achieved over 600.000 kWh power yield every month. 96 tonnes. The huge Fl 2500 has been safely providing grid power since autumn 2006. A wide range of finely-honed instincts were required over the first days of operation to optimise parameters and to harmonise all system components perfectly. The installation is currently being surveyed in accordance with regulations. The industry, the insurers and the investors are enthusiastic about the FL 2500 design concept. This concept means that the innovative main drive shaft promises high operational reliability and availability with its 2.5 MW power rating, 90 m rotor diameter, 160 m hub height the figures alone cannot give an impression of what the visitor feels on his first view of the FL 2500. The Fuhrlnder installation has been powerfully converting the Lausitz wind into clean wind power since autumn 2006. This is a sign of hope in an area which was shaped by brown coal mining over many decades, and whose deep wounds still exist in the region. It took a long time until the innovative ideas from W2E Consulting Engineers, the manufacturers knowhow and the experience gained by Fuhrlnders employees resulted in the construction of this gentle giant. But the effort was worthwhile. Even the Done it! The 160 m high prototype FL 2500 towers above everything else. prototype looks like a mature series machine - everything has been well thought-out and beautifully manufactured right up to the last detail. This fact was confirmed by the many thousand visitors to specialist trade fairs where Fuhrlnder publicly exhibited the machine housing, which weighs no less than Real teamwork: Thomas Schuckart from W2E, Fuhrlnder employee Steffen Schmidt and Mita-Teknik expert Christian Ley during commissioning huge roller bearings between nacelle and rotor hub, which also enables direct access between machine house and hub. The integratable crane system will also reduce operating costs in the future. Grid connection was also problem-free thanks to the specially-designed onboard transformer.

South Africa

Signs of hope on the black continent

It was worth the effort. After almost 10 years of hard and tireless planning work, the contract for the construction of the first wind park Herman Oelsner (r) and Joachim Fuhrlnder have achieved an important milestone: the contract for the construction of the first wind park in South Africa is complete.

Joint-venture for rotor blade manufacturer founded

The foundation of a joint-venture was agreed between BPM (Baoding Propeller Manufactory) and Fuhrlnder Brazil for Cear, Brazil. BPM Is one of the largest and most successful rotor blade manufacturers in China. We are convinced by the quality and precision of the rotor blades said Dieter Lahr, technical manager of Fuhrlnder Brazil. In Brazil, production of rotor blades at lengths of up to 34 m has started. After this, the construction of further moulds for rotor blades of up to 47 m in length for the FL 2500 is planned. Initially, projects in Brazil itself and in North America are to be supplied by this fabrication. The production facility has been constructed on the premises where Fuhrlnder also constructs the machine housings. Thanks to a cooperation agreement between the State University of Fortaleza, a research and development centre with affiliated training is also planned.

th of Cape Town. This installation has been specially designed for the location near the coast at the Cape of good Hope with its warm, humid and extremely salty air. The installation has a nominal output of 1.3 megawatts, and is equipped with a 62 m rotor and a tower of 50 m in height. A total of 30 wind turbines are planned for this location. During the signing of the contract, Herman Oelsner, now living in South Africa, said: A long-term dream has now come true. I can hardly believe that all these years of cooperation have finally come to fruition. Oelsner is extremely sure that wind power will be creating a sign of hope, especially in South Africa. The first wind park in South Africa will be constructed at this location near the Cape of good Hope using four FL 1250s.

Contract for supply of first rotor blades signed

India
A supply agreement for rotor blades of various types has been agreed with the BPM (Baoding Propeller Manufactory). This means that we will be able to counter the general component bottleneck in good time, emphasised Dr. Volker Wei, who also took charge of license After a series of harmonious negotiations, a pre-contract for the licensed production of the FL 1500 was signed between the EMCO company and Fuhrlnder AG in India. This means that the strategy of licensing and controlled technology transfer is playing an everincreasing part in the companys rise in value. The company philosophy of in-house production in selected countries, the associated or separate training of young people worldwide and the licensing of particular machine types are three of the routes which Fuhrlnder will be going down in the future. This license agreement is limited to India. Discussions with further partners support for the FL 1000 on behalf of the parent company. Dr. Anzhong Wang, general manager of Fuhrlnder International, considers that the primary reciprocal trust which will almost certainly allow further mutual routes into the international markets has been confirmed in this case. As early as June, the first rotor blades were shipped directly to from China to South Africa, where Fuhrlnder is constructing the first wind park to produce pollution-free energy near Cape Town.

New production location under construction

Fuhrlnder AG is currently constructing a new production location in the immediate vicinity of the Siegerland regional airport and the A45 Dortmund to Frankfurt motorway, resulting in good transport connections. Over the next few months, production halls of over 200 m in length are to be constructed on the premises of over 30.000 square metres in size, in which 15 installations in the 2.5 mW class can be constructed in parallel every month. Around 200 employees, in addition to trainees, will work in the component and final assembly, test and administration sectors.

The Fuhrlnder Academy

The Fuhrlnder Academy was brought into being in 2007 in order to still better implement qualification measures for employees, customers and partners. Depending on the areas of occupation and activities, further training and instruction will be offered in order to cement existing expertise. New staff members will be given qualified introduction, and management will be kept fit by a new management trainer. An extensive seminar programme for customers and operators the world over is also being set up. The current location of Waigandshain will be redeveloped to form an international training and instruction centre. Groups from Brazil and China consisting of junior staff from the regenerative energy sector have recently been awarded their wind power qualifications. Management training for major customers is also taking place.

subjects will be held at the Fuchskaute in cooperation with the Fuhrlnder Academy. The functional premises offer suitable surroundings for such actions.

Investment in training
Every economically-oriented company has to fulfil social tasks in parallel with normal operations. Fuhrlnder AG is disproportionately investing in training locations for this very reason. Currently, over 80 young people are learning future-oriented occupations in the German company group alone. We consider training to be holistic, which means that the personal development and community capabilities of young people is of considerable importance in addition to specialised alignment said Training Coordinator Ricarda Scheil as she described the Fuhrlnder philosophy. Metal workers, mechatronic engineers, office and industrial clerks start their professional life in the wind power sector at the same time as young people are trained to be cooks, hotel and restaurant managers in the in-house Fuchskaute hotel restaurant. Cooperation agreement
In the surroundings of Power Future 2006 in the Brazilian state of Cear, cooperation agreement Fuhrlnder AG signed a between Centec and

Cenea in addition to representatives of the Ministry of Research and Technology and the local State University. This cooperation includes the construction of a school, a training centre and various research establishments and test areas with the focus on wind power.

Training workshops
Occupational and lifestyle-accompanying workshops, in which team capabilities, a sense of responsibility and practical thinking and acting are promoted, are also part of holistic training. Fuhrlnder AG will also be creating new training places in interesting occupational sectors in the future because good occupational training is a basic principle on which people can take their life in their own hands. This wind-operated water pump was produced and developed by our trainees in a special workshop. The water pump is intended to provide drinking water for people in developing countries.

Antonio Amaury Ori Fernandes president of Centec underlined the necessity of cooperation with Fuhrlnder AG and the transfer of know-how in order to be able to offer young people in Brazil a secure future. An important factor in the cooperation agreement is the drawing up of a programme for mutual training, research studies and development of wind power. This will ensure that Fuhrlnder AG will have qualified employees available in the long-term in their Brazilian production facilities, which means that they will be able to face up to international competition. The project is affiliated to the Fuhrlnder Academy which took up its work in January 2007.

Our trainees learn to accept responsibility for other forms of life (animal care). Weather protection stalls for bison and horses are being constructed in workshops.
