Materials Used: Shoe box , Black paper , Foam , Aluminum foil , plexiglass , food Construction: - I collected above materials

for the experiment. I tool a shoe box and covered the bottom with foam. I added foam because then I could trap the heat inside the box. - I covered all of the foam and sides with aluminum foil, so the sun rays from the whole box will reflect to the food. - I cut a hole in the box, so the heat could come inside the box. I placed plexiglass on top of the hole and taped the glass to the box. - I covered the outside of the box with black paper because black attracts heat. procedure: My experiment on day 1: Weather: The sky was filled with clouds but there was sunshine and outside temperature at 12 noon for that day was 70 F. I dropped a piece of cheese in the solar oven and placed the oven outside facing

the sun. I used barbecue thermometer to measure temperature of the oven at different times. When I first got the cheese Main Idea: Here is how the food gets heated. Heat rays come into the box thru plexiglass , the heat energy contacts food and heats the food. In that process heat generates steam , without plexiglass heat/steam would escape out of box. If the heat/steam escapes out of box it takes very long time to cook the food. This is how plexiglass is helping to trap the heat/steam inside the box so that food is cooked quickly. from the refrigerator it was 35 F . When I checked the oven after 15 minutes, it was 70 F . The oven felt about room temperature. Here is how the oven temperature changed over time. 15 minutes later: The thermometer showed the oven was 82 30 minutes later: The thermometer said the oven was 82 F. 45 minutes later: The oven temperature showed 100 F . 60 minutes later: The thermometer showed 106 F . The cheese I placed in the oven ( on top of a plate ) melted nicely . When I tasted the cheese , it tasted as if I microwaved the cheese.

My experiment on day 2: Weather: The sky is clear with plenty of sunshine and outside temperature at 12 noon for that day was 85 F. I break an egg onto a plate and placed the plate into the solaroven. I verified the top plexiglass oven top is completely closed and there are not opening to air ( so that heat/steam would not escape ) . I used barbecue thermometer to measure temperature of the oven at different times. 15 minutes later: The thermometer showed the oven was 90 30 minutes later: The thermometer said the oven was 110 F. 45 minutes later: The oven temperature showed 140 F . 60 minutes later: The thermometer showed 180 F .
