The Busy Bee

Vol. 1, Issue 2=======================================================November 20, 2012 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On the Home Front --------Grocery Deluge Lompoc, CA - Perhaps the most unsettling thing about Thanksgiving Day, or any sort of feasting and communal get-togethers, is the amount of money that is spent on food. Granted, all food prices have been climbing in recent years, but none more so than what would be considered healthy foods such as fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, fresh milk, properly aged cheeses, micro-brewed beers, etc. Organic foods are left off of the aforementioned list because the word is improperly used by those green bastards to mean a specific subset of foods which taste no better than food that you could procure from the wild. For example, if the author wanted to eat gamecock, he would go hunting and shoot some wild gamecock, and he would enjoy the hunt; but he would most certainly not pay extra for free range chicken which was probably ranging about some hippies backyard. Regardless of the need for healthy food, good for is becoming more expensive. It wasnt much of a shock when the shopping cart was taken to the register for check out and the price of the dessert ingredients was approximately $150. Thankfully, a weeks worth of homemade pumpkin pies and fruit tarts are all sorts of leftovers are definitely worth the $150. Then theres even more to be thankful for considering that the costs for this Thanksgiving Day feast is being split, asymmetrically between 3 married couples who happen to be friends. Each couple pays for and shares the fruits of their labor at some portion of the meal, i.e. Main Course, Deserts, and Snacks & Beverages. So, this Thanksgiving Day, think about the wonderful food that will be had, for a price. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Lifestyle --------------------Triple Ds Grill: Serving a Bunch Lompoc, CA Yeah, its just a diner. Its just a grill. Its just a large serving of food thatll force you to unbuckle your belt one or two notches. Thats Triple Ds Grill. From what I hear, its a family owned restaurant that specializes in burgers. Ive had lunch once or twice there before, and its certainly worth going back. This time, I came back for dinner; but the deserted parking lot should have been an omen. As the wife and I sat to dinner, we noticed that we were only the second couple in the restaurant. Thats not a bad thing either, because the service becomes that much better. We received our drinks quickly, and our Country-fried Chicken and Meatloaf Dinner came out within 15 minutes. Thats fast service. For $30 including tip, we received a hearty two course meal with free refills: soup or salad, two sides, main dish. The wife enjoyed the chicken, I gulfed down the meatloaf. At these prices, I cant complain. Yeah, the meatloaf had that special Triple D flair, some sweet, peppery taste, but really... I was more worried that I wouldnt be able to finish the dinner. With the meal half eaten, I still had 2 pounds of food left over. At these prices, I dont know how these guys are still in business. Anyways, Triple Ds Grill is highly recommended if youre in the area and want a good, old-fashioned, wellprepared piece of moist, tasty, ground beef.
