I. OBJECTIVES: 1. Stress universality of dedication and service to others as reflected in the selection 2. Organize ones thought and adopt them in appropriate writing style in letters II. SUBJECT MATTER: Topic: Three Letters from Teddy by Elizabeth Silance Ballard (Letter Writing) Reference: Internet Materials: Powerpoint presentation, strips of cartolina III. LEARNING ACTIVITIES A. Pre viewing 1. Daily Routine a. Food for Thought b. Word for the Day c. News Buzz 2. Unlocking of Difficulties The teacher will group the students into eight (8) and ask the students to do the assigned task for each group. 3. Motivation The teacher will ask the students to tune in to the video clip presented and ask them to describe it on what they can say about it. Letters from Teddy. 2. The teacher will ask the following questions: a. Who are the characters of the story? b. What was the first impression of Miss Thompson to Teddy? c. What makes Miss Thompson changed her view on teaching? d. What was the content of Teddys first letter? How about the second and third? e. How did you feel about the main character when: 1. He gave his mothers bracelet and perfume to Miss Thompson? 2. He still keep in touched with Miss Thompson in spite of the fact that they were not related in blood? f. In your own perspective, how would you be an inspiration to others? Support your answer.

C. Post Viewing 1. The teacher will re group the class into four (4) groups and ask them to do the activity Paint me a picture! Here are the lists of the scenes taken from the selection and what you are going to do is to act it out. a. Jean Valjean stealing the bread from a shop and sentenced for five years of imprisonment. b. Jean Valjean stealing the silver candle stick. c. Jean Valjean sleeping in a bed. d. Jean Valjean caught by the policeman. 2. The teacher will ask the students to work with a pair and discuss the following questions: a. What conflicting thoughts are going through Jean Valjeans mind? b. What instances show these conflicting thoughts? c. What are his motivations for his decision? d. What values lead to his decision? IV. ASSIGNMENT Read and Study the selection The Necklace, pp. 51 59 in Synergy 4.
