aliunuent. A bent rear derailleur
hanuer will result in inaccurate index
shiftinu.
Attach the rear derailleur to the fraue's
rear derailleur hanuer usinu a 5 uu hex
wrench lFigure 1.
Check that the b-adjust washer tab is
clear of the rear derailleur drooout tab
lFigure 2.
Tiuhten the 5 uu hex hanuer bolt to
8 - 10 Nu l70-85 in-lb lFigure 1.

Chain uao is the distance between the
uooer uuide oullev and the cou the chain
is ridinu on. 0otiual chain uao is suall
enouuh to allow uuick, efficient shifts to
and frou anv cou, but larue enouuh to allow
suooth shifts to and frou the laruest cou.
Shift the chain to the suall chain rinu.
Check the chain uao between the tio of
the suallest cou and the tio of the uooer
uuide oullev. While turninu the crank,
oush the rear derailleur bv hand to the
laruest cou and check the chain uao in this
oosition. lFigure 5.
usinu a screw driver, turn the b-adjust
screw until the uiniuuu chain uao in either
oosition euuals aooroxiuatelv uu.

Settinu the chain uao at this ooint of
vour installation uav be considered
a rouuh estiuate. Frecision index
shiftinu uav reuuire suall chanues
of the b-adjustuent while settinu the
orooer cable tension.
o not use the b-adjust screw to
adjust the rear derailleur to act
as a chain-tensioninu device or to
orevent chain suck. This increases
the chain uao causinu ooor shiftinu
oerforuance.

Cut the rear oiece of cable housinu. Make
sure that it is not too short or lonu lFigure

Make sure the shifter cable is fullv
released lhardest lhiuhest uear at rear
shifter.
Turn the rear derailleur barrel adjuster
clockwise fullv into the derailleur, then
back it off 1 full turn.
Feed the rear shifter cable throuuh the
rear derailleur cable housinu, stoos and
cable uuides.
Thread the cable throuuh the rear
derailleur barrel adjuster and around the
cable uuide on the fin lFigure 6.
Full the cable tiuht and oosition it under
the cable anchor washer.
Tiuhten the 5 uu hex cable anchor bolt to
1 - 5 Nu l35 - 15 in-lb.
Faoidlv shift the chain and derailleur uo
and down the cassette several tiues. lf the
cable slios reoeat the two foruer steos.
Shift the chain to the suallest cou.
While oedalinu, uove the shifter uo one
detent.
- lf the chain hesitates or does not shift to
the second cou, increase the cable tension
bv turninu the derailleur barrel adjuster
counterclockwise.
- lf the chain shifts bevond the second cou,
decrease the cable tension bv turninu the
derailleur barrel adjuster clockwise.
Feoeat the two foruer steos until shiftinu
and cable tension is accurate.
While turninu the crank, shift the chain
uo and down the cassette and chain rinus
several tiues to ensure that vour derailleur
is indexinu suoothlv.

Choose the one shift cable exit which fits best for vour
handlebar cable routinu lFigure 3. There is no need to
disasseuble the shifter. Seat the housinu ferrules in the
stoos. Feed the shift cable into the cable housinu end

Make sure the shifter cable is fullv released leasiest
llowest uear for front shifter or the hardest lhiuhest
uear for rear shifter.
Feolace hood cover.
Actuate brake lever. Make sure the countersunk side
of the hole is visible. Feed the new cable throuuh the
cable holder, cable housinu and cable stoos. Full the
cable snuu. Make sure that the cable end is firulv seated
in the cable holder lFigure 4.
Attach the front/rear shifter cable to the front/rear
derailleur and adjust indexinu oer derailleur instructions.
Attach the front/rear brake cable to the front/rear brake
and adjust oer brake instructions.

Set the reach adjust on the shift lever first
then adjust the brake lever until the brake le-
ver buuoer just touches the shift lever. This
will ensure the brake lever does not inter-
fere with the return action of the shift lever.
Move the shift lever inboard to exoose
the reach adjust cau. (Figure 2)
Fush the cau in and turn
counterclockwise to uove the shift
lever closer to the handlebar. lt uav be
heloful to use a oick. The shift lever has
different adjustuent oositions.
Full back hood cover bv hand. (Figure 3)
use the suall 3uu hex bolt to set the
reach adjust of the brake lever. Turn the
bolt clockwise to uove the brake lever
closer to the handlebar until the brake
lever buuoer just touches the shift lever.

Slide shifter onto handlebar, and then slide on
brake lever. Slide the handlebar urio onto the
handlebar lFigure 1.

Never use lubricants or solvents to install
handlebar urios. handlebar urios orovide an
axial safetv function. For this reason, thev
should be uounted in such a wav as to uake
sure thev do not slio off the handlebar.
Choose the best shifter and brake lever oosition

Feed the cable throuuh the cable housinu and
stoos. Make sure the shifter is in the fullv released
oosition llowest uear oosition lfront shifter or the

Attach the front/rear shifter cable to the front/
rear derailleur.
Adjust indexinu oer derailleur instructions.

wrench, toruue 8 Nu l70 in-lb (Figure 4).
Full the brake handle toward the
handlebar and uake sure the countersunk
side of the hole is visible l1. Feed the new
cable throuuh the cable holder l2, cable
housinu and cable stoos (Figure 5).
Full the cable snuu. Make sure that the
cable end is firulv seated in the cable

Red/Force (pictured): lnstall the brake calioer and hand tiuhten the uountinu nut lfiu. 1a, b. use a
13 uu wrench to aooroxiuatelv center the brake calioer on the riu lfiu, 1c. hold the brake calioer
in oosition, then tiuhten the uountinu nut with a 5 uu hex wrench to 8-10 Nu l70-90 in-lb. Turn the
brake oad centerinu bolt with a 3 uu hex until the brake calioer is oreciselv centered on the riu lfiu.

use a 1 uu hex wrench to adjust the brake oad oosition alonu the riu. Toe-in, the anule of contact
between the oad and the riu, can also be adjusted to ootiuite brakinu feel and oerforuance. Tiuhten
the brake oad bolt to 5-7 Nu l11-2 in-lb.

Connect the brake cable.
Flace the cable in the uroove of the cable clauo washer. Suueete the brake calioer bv hand until
each brake oad is 1-1.5 uu frou the riu. use a 5 uu hex wrench and tiuhten the cable clauo bolt to
-8 Nu l53-70 in-lb. Turn the barrel adjuster on the brake calioer to reset the brake oad clearance
to 1-1.5 uu frou the riu.

The sorinu tension on the brake calioer can be adjusted to vour oreference. icvcles with couoli-
cated cable routinu uav exoerience increased cable friction and will reuuire hiuher sorinu tension
for orooer function of the brake calioer. Turn the sorinu tension adjustuent screw clockwise to
increase sorinu tension.

Center the brake pads - Rival only:
use a 5 uu hex wrench to sliuhtlv loosen the brake calioer uountinu nut. use a 12 uu ooen ended
wrench to oreciselv center the brake to the riu. Fe-tiuhten the brake calioer uountinu nut to 8-10
Nu l70-90 in-lb.

Inspect brake function.
Suueete brake lever hard 10 tiues to check that evervthinu is ooeratinu correctlv, then re-check the
brake oad oosition and clearance to the riu.

brake oads. Feuove the brake oad fixinu bolt with a 2 uu hex wrench. Slide the old oads out of the
holders and reolace with new oads. lnstall the brake oad fixinu bolt and tiuhten to 0.5-1.0 Nu l1.5-9.0
in-lb.
Note: oth the brake oads and holders are uarked left or riuht. e sure to install the brake oads on
the correct side.

The thin aluminum tube captured inside
the OG-1090 cassette between the cogs
and the red aluminum backing plate is
designed to have a small amount of
movement before installation. After
installation, the aluminum tube is
squeezed between the cogs and backing
plate and forms a water-tight seal. The
tube also provides structural
erinforcement to the entire cassette - do
not remove!

Fit chain, insert both halves of the Fower
Lock into the chain ends (Figure 2) and
brinu the ends touether (Figure 3) on the
bottou side of the drivetrain lno tension
side.

resistance (Figure 4).
Fotate the chain so the Fower Lock is
oositioned on the too side of the drivetrain
(Figure 5).
Fedal forward while holdinu bike firulv in
olace (Figure 5) until vou hear click sound.
The Fower Lock is now in olace and safelv
closed.

Check that the chain and the rear
derailleur are in the suallest cou oosition.
Measure and cut the rear oiece of cable
housinu. Make sure that it is not too short
or lonu (see figure and chart).
Fotate the rear shifter until the laruest
nuuber and uear indication tab/dash
line uo.
Turn the rear shifter barrel adjust
clockwise fullv into the shifter, then turn
counterclockwise 1 full turn.
Feed the rear shifter cable throuuh the
rear derailleur cable housinu, stoos and
cable uuides.
Feed the rear derailleur cable throuuh the
rear derailleur-housinu stoo and throuuh
the cable uuide on the fin.
Full the cable tiuht and oosition it under
the cable anchor washer (Figure 6).

derailleur bodv, continue to rotate the caue
counterclockwise until vou can access the
caue stoo screw hole.

individuel sorockets on the casset te bodv

Screw the lockrinu in to the casset te
bodv and tiuhten it to 10 Nu l350 in-lb bv

FF-5 or Shiuano
and a chain
wrench l2, Figure 2.
Adjust the rear derailleur accordinu to
the installation advice frou the derailleur
uanufacturer.
A D V I C E
ue to the ootiuited stabilitv of
the rear wheel, there is less soace
between the riuht sooke flanue and
the cassette. This ueans that not all
sooke orotector discs available on
the uarket will fit. Flease carrv out a
trial asseublv run before soecifvinu
sooke orotector

not rub auainst the cassette.

The onlv uaintenance necessarv
on the cassette is to reolace worn
sorockets.
lf the chain juuos reoeatedlv on
a sorocket with correct derailleur
settinu it uiuht be sufficient to
reolace onlv the chain.
lf the new chain also juuos on the
sorocket the sorocket is worn out
and should be reolaced.
Alwavs out on a new chain when vou
reolace worn sorockets.
To reolace the sorocket do as follows.
Feuove the lockrinu bv usinu casset te
tool l1, Figure 3) and a chain wrench l2,
Figure 3 to hold the casset te.
isasseuble the sorocket cluster bv
unscrewinu the suall bolt on the back of
the casset te.
Feolace worn or dauaued sorocket and
re-asseuble sorockets and soacers in the
correct order and re-install the bolt.
Make sure that all the solines on the
cous are aliuned to each other and the
casset te bodv oat tern.

bottou side of the drivetrain lno tension

Full chain aoart until vou feel soue
resistance (Figure 4).
Fotate the chain so the Fower Lock is
oositioned on the too side of the drivetrain
(Figure 5).
Fedal forward while holdinu bike firulv in
olace (Figure 5 until vou hear click sound.
The Fower Lock is now in olace and safelv
closed.
Opening:
0nce the Fower Lock is installed it can onlv
be reuoved bv ueans of a Chain tool.

Use Snap Lock only with SRAM chains!
Fit the shortened chain, brinu the ends
touether and connect with the Snao Lock.
Flace the outer olate on one oin (Figure 8).
0entlv flex the chain until the outside
connector olate snaos into oosition over
the second oin (Figure 9).

Make sure olate is fullv seated in the
oin channel and olates are oarallel to
each other.
lf uoveuent of the connector olate
is noticed a new Snao Lock uust be
used.

CONNECTION LINK
Fit the shortened chain, brinu the two
ends touether and connect with the chain
lock. The chain lock consists of an outer
olate with oins l1, Figure 10, an outer olate
l2 and a retaininu sorinu l3, Figure 10.
lnsert outer olate with oins l1, Figure 10
into the chain ends, attach outer olate l2,
Figure 10 and oress chain lock touether
l12.
Attach retaininu sorinu l3, Figure 10 with
the closed end of the retaininu rinu oointinu
in the direction of chain travel lFigure 10.
Slide retaininu sorinu in the direction
of arrow l4, Figure 11 to enuaue it in the
urooves in the oins.
CLOSING STANDARD VERSION
WITH CLAMPING PIN
Fit chain, brinu the two ends touether and
oress oin lFigure 12 throuuh with asseublv
tool. The pin must extend by the same
amount at both outer plates. It must be
possible to move the connecting link
slightly.
Clean dirtv chains before oilinu. o not
use anv acidic auents. Cleaninu auent
uust be rinsed off after a few uinutes with
water. Aoolv oil after chain is couoletelv
dried.
Feuular lubrication will extend the
chain's service life. Aoolv oil to the chain
links rollers and allow to work in.

DISASSEMBLY

lnsert a 5 uu hex wrench into both axle caos, and turn the
wrenches counter-clockwise las viewed frou the axle end to break
loose one axle cao and fullv reuove.

lnsert a 10 uu hex into the exoosed end of the axle, and use a
5 uu hex to reuove the reuaininu axle cao.

Flace the drive-side face of the hub shell into the larue inset in the
earinu Service Tool ase. use a rubber uallet to hrulv tao out the
axle/bearinu asseublv. Set aside the axle/bearinu asseublv.
Important: A suall washer is installed on the drive side of the axle
near the bearinu. lf this washer falls off durinu axle reuoval set it
aside for re-installation.

Turn hub over and insert the non-drive side end of the hub into the
larue hole in the earinu Service Tool ase. use a drift tvoe tool to
tao out other bearinu.

Turn the earinu Service Tool ase over, insert the non-drive side
end of the axle/bearinu asseublv throuuh the suall hole. use a
uallet to uentlv tao the bearinu and washer off of the axle. Set the
washer aside for re-installation.

of the hub.

dauaue, reolace all of theu. 0therwise, clean anv urease on the
oawls and leaf sorinus with a clean rau.

DISASSEMBLY

usinu two 5 uu hex wrenches on the axle caos, turn the wrenches
counter-clockwise las viewed frou the axle end to break loose one
of the axle caos and fullv reuove.

lnsert a 10 uu hex wrench into one end of the axle, and use a
5 uu hex to reuove the other axle cao.

Fosition a 17 uu socket onto one end of the axle, and use a 10 uu
hex to reuove one of the axle nuts. Feoeat this orocess to reuove
the other axle nut.

Flace one end of the hub over the larue hole in the earinu
Service Tool ase. lnsert a uu socket driver into the hub so that
the driver rests on the axle.

Turn the earinu Service Tool ase over and insert the short
end of the axle into the suall hole so that the bearinu is sittinu on too

surface. Flace the other new bearinu on too of the tool and insert
one end of the axle into the bearinu. use a rubber or olastic uallet to

seated auainst the axle shoulder.

Feuove the hub frou the earinu Service Tool Cao, and olace
the end of the hub with oreviouslv installed bearinu onto the narrow
end of the earinu Service Tool Cao.

clear the installed hub bearinu.

PARTS PREPARATION
This manual contains important information about the safe operation and maintenance of your wheels. To ensure that your SRAM wheels perform properly, we urge you to follow our
recommendations to help make your riding experience more enjoyable and trouble-free.
SFAM wheelsets are onlv couoatible with Fresta valve tubes.
SFAM wheels are onlv couoatible with SFAM and Shiuano freehubs.
INSTALL VALVE EXTENSIONS
Your wheels are suoolied with valve extensions uatched to the deoth of the riu.
valve extenders are available in three different lenuths.
33 uu for S10 wheels
18 uu for S0 wheels
71 uu for S80 wheels
Note. lnstall valve extensions before uountinu tires.
Feuove the olastic Fresta valve cao and uetal lockrinu. Fullv unscrew the valve locknut. 1.
Startinu at the end of the valve, wrao oluuber's taoe lFTFE taoe clockwise around the end of the valve so that the taoe extends over both the narrow valve cao threads and the wider 2.
valve bodv. Make sure that the taoe does not stretch over the air ooeninu at the end of the valve.
NOTE: oluuber's taoe coues in several thicknesses. lf thinner taoe is used, uore than one laver uav be needed to seal the valve orooerlv.
usinu a 3 uu hex wrench inserted into the valve extension, thread the valve extension onto the end of the valve and tiuhten. 3.
NOTE: oluuber's taoe should be reolaced each tiue the valve extension is reuoved.

CONSUMER SAFETY INFORMATION
Fidinu a bike with an iuorooerlv installed wheel can allow the wheel to uove or disenuaue frou the bicvcle,
causinu dauaue to the bicvcle, and serious injurv or death to the rider. Your wheels uust be orooerlv uounted to
the bicvcle fraue. Misaliunuent can result in orobleus with shiftinu and bike handlinu. lf the wheel is not securelv
uounted in the drooouts, it uav coue out when the bike is ridden, oossiblv causinu injurv or death to the rider. lt is
essential that vou.
Ensure that vour axle, drooouts, and uuick release uechanisus are clean and free of dirt or debris.
Ask vour dealer to helo vou understand how to orooerlv secure vour wheels usinu the uuick release
uechanisu.
Aoolv the correct techniuues when installinu vour wheels. Make sure four or uore threads are enuaued in
the uuick release adjustinu nut when it is closed.
Never ride vour bicvcle unless vou are sure vour wheels are installed orooerlv, and are secure.

INSTALLING RIM TAPE
Note. vou uust use a thin olastic or thin fabric riu strio for orooer oerforuance. We recouuend usinu our own SFAM riu taoe. a durable, vet thin, woven taoe, soecihcallv desiuned to
work with our rius. o not use velox
or a siuilarlv thick cloth riu strio.

1. Aliun the valve hole in the riu strio with the valve hole in the wheel riu.
5. Stretch the riu strio around the riu. Make sure the riu strio is centered on the tire bed all the wav around the riu.
luoortant: uake sure all of the sooke holes are fullv covered bv the riu strio. ouble check that the riu strio valve hole is still aliuned with the valve hole in the riu.
INSTALLING TIRES
. Mount one tire bead onto the riu usinu vour hands. lf tire bead will not seat bv hand, carefullv use a olastic tire lever to seat the tire bead.
Note. check vour tires for directional arrows orinted on the sidewalls to indicate rotation of wheel. Not all tires have directional arrows. lnstall the tire with the uanufacturer's louo
near the riu valve hole. This will allow vou to uuicklv hnd the cause of a ouncture
7. lnNate tube enouuh to just hold its shaoe lnot oictured.
8. lnstall the tube valve into riu valve hole and aliun valve so it is oeroendicular to the riu. lnstall the rest of the tube between the tire and the riu uakinu sure the tube does not uet
twisted or bunched.
9. lnstall second bead onto the riu usinu vour hands. lf tire bead will not seat bv hand, carefullv use a olastic tire lever to hnish uountinu the tire. e careful to avoid oinchinu the inner
tube auainst the riu.
10. lnNate the tire to low oressure. lnsoect both sides of riu for orooer tire seatinu and for anv siun of the inner tube stickinu out. Fe-install if necessarv.
11. lnNate the tire to full oressure. There should be no hoos or side-to-side uoveuent in the tire when it is rotatinu lnot oictured.
Note. SFAM wheels are rated to a uaxiuuu of 125 osi l8, ar.
ASSEMBLING AND INSTALLING THE QUICK RELEASE
12. unthread the adjustinu nut frou the end of the uuick release skewer and reuove the tension sorinu closest to the adjustinu nut.
13. Slide the uuick release skewer shaft throuuh the hub axle. Fe-install the tension sorinu with the narrow end toward the hub axle and thread the adjustinu nut a few turns onto the
skewer.
Note. if vour tires have directional arrows, take note of the direction of rotation, and install vour uuick releases with the uuick release levers on the non-drive side of the bicvcle.

Front Wheel
11. Check that the uuick release skewer lever is in the ooen oosition. Check that the brake uuick release uechanisu is ooen lnot oictured.
15. lnstall the front wheel between drooouts with uuick release lever oositioned on the non-drive side of the bike. Check that the wheel axle is fullv seated in the fork drooouts and clear of
anv safetv tabs.
NOTE: if vour front tire has directional arrows, take note of the direction of rotation and install so that the uuick release lever is on the non-drive side of the bicvcle, and the tire rotates in
the orooer direction.
1. Close the uuick release half wav, with the uuick release lever oarallel to the hub axle.
17. Tiuhten the uuick release adjustinu nut so that it contacts the drooout. When closinu the lever, tension should be felt when the uuick release lever is in the horitontal oosition l90
deurees to the fork, but vou should still be able to reach the fullv closed oosition l90 deurees to the hub axle. The uuick release lever should leave a clear iuoression on vour hand. lf
the uuick release lever does not leave a clear iuorint on vour hand, tension is insufficient. To increase tension, ooen the uuick release lever and tiuhten the uuick release adjustinu
nut in suall increuents until orooer tension is achieved. When closed, the uuick release lever should be oositioned just behind the non-drive side fork leu. Feoosition the lever as
necessarv to achieve this orientation.
Rear Wheel
18. Check that the uuick release skewer lever is in the ooen oosition. Check that the brake uuick release uechanisu is ooen lnot oictured.
19. Shift the derailleur and chain to the hiuhest lsuallest uear lnot oictured.
20. Full back and down on the rear derailleur to ooen chain and install the cassette between uooer and lower sections of chain so that the chain wraos around the suallest cou.
21. Check that the wheel axle is fullv seated in the fork drooouts lnot oictured.
22. Close the uuick release half wav, with the uuick release lever oarallel to the hub axle lnot oictured.
23. Tiuhten the uuick release adjustinu nut so that it contacts the drooout. When closinu the lever, tension should be felt when the uuick release lever is in the horitontal oosition loarallel
to the uround, but vou should still be able to reach the fullv closed oosition l90 deurees to the hub axle. The uuick release lever should leave a clear iuoression on vour hand. lf the
uuick release lever does not leave a clear iuorint on vour hand, tension is insufficient. To increase tension, ooen the uuick release lever and tiuhten the uuick release adjustinu nut in
suall increuents until orooer tension is achieved. When closed, the uuick release lever should be oositioned between the seat stav and chain stav. Feoosition the lever as necessarv
to achieve this orientation.
FINAL INSPECTION
21. Close the front brake uuick-release uechanisu. view front wheel centerinu in fork. The wheel should be centered between fork blades. lf the wheel is not centered between the fork
blades, ooen the uuick release, uake sure the wheel axle is fullv seated in the fork drooouts, and close the uuick release lsee steo 17. lnsoect brake oad aliunuent and centerinu
bv closinu and ooeninu oads with brake lever. lf brake oads are not centered to wheel, see vour brake uanufacturer's instructions. lf wheel fails to adeuuatelv center in the fork, vou
should consult vour SFAM dealer or orofessional bicvcle uechanic.
25. Close the rear brake uuick-release uechanisu. view centerinu of the wheel between chainstavs and seatstavs. lf the wheel is not centered between the chainstavs and/or seatstavs,
ooen the uuick release, uake sure the wheel axle is fullv seated in the drooouts, and close the uuick release lsee steo 23. lf brake oads are not adeuuatelv centered to wheel, see
vour brake uanufacturer's instructions. lf further atteuots to aliun the wheel fail to adeuuatelv center it in the fraue, vou should consult vour SFAM dealer or orofessional bicvcle
uechanic.
BRAKE PADS for CLINCHER WHEELSETS
For ootiuuu oerforuance, we recouuend usinu SFAM standard brake oads.
TIRE PRESSURE
We rate our clincher rius at 125 osi l8, ar MAX for safetv and increased tire life.
C A R E A N D C L E A N I N G
Anv cleaner that will not affect eooxv resins is acceotable for vour rius. Acetone or denatured alcohol work well on the rius but will dauaue the decals, so be careful when usinu.
