Check the rear derailleur hanuer
aliunuent. A bent rear derailleur
hanuer will result in inaccurate index
shiftinu.
Attach the rear derailleur to the fraue's
rear derailleur hanuer usinu a 5 uu hex
wrench lFigure 1.
Check that the b-adjust washer tab is
clear of the rear derailleur drooout tab
lFigure 2.
Tiuhten the 5 uu hex hanuer bolt to
8 - 10 Nu l70-85 in-lb lFigure 1.

Chain uao is the distance between the
uooer uuide oullev and the cou the chain
is ridinu on. 0otiual chain uao is suall
enouuh to allow uuick, efficient shifts to
and frou anv cou, but larue enouuh to allow
suooth shifts to and frou the laruest cou.
Shift the chain to the suall chain rinu.
Check the chain uao between the tio of
the suallest cou and the tio of the uooer
uuide oullev. While turninu the crank,
oush the rear derailleur bv hand to the
laruest cou and check the chain uao in this
oosition. lFigure 5.
usinu a screw driver, turn the b-adjust
screw until the uiniuuu chain uao in either
oosition euuals aooroxiuatelv uu.

Settinu the chain uao at this ooint of
vour installation uav be considered
a rouuh estiuate. Frecision index
shiftinu uav reuuire suall chanues
of the b-adjustuent while settinu the
orooer cable tension.
o not use the b-adjust screw to
adjust the rear derailleur to act
as a chain-tensioninu device or to
orevent chain suck. This increases
the chain uao causinu ooor shiftinu
oerforuance.
I NDE X S HI F T I NG ADJ US T ME NT
Attach the rear derailleur to the fraue's
rear derailleur hanuer usinu a 5 uu hex
wrench lFigure 1.
Check that the chain and the rear
derailleur are in the suallest cou oosition.
Cut the rear oiece of cable housinu. Make
sure that it is not too short or lonu lFigure
6.
Make sure the shifter cable is fullv
released lhardest lhiuhest uear at rear
shifter.
Turn the rear derailleur barrel adjuster
clockwise fullv into the derailleur, then
back it off 1 full turn.
Feed the rear shifter cable throuuh the
rear derailleur cable housinu, stoos and
cable uuides.
Thread the cable throuuh the rear
derailleur barrel adjuster and around the
cable uuide on the fin lFigure 6.
Full the cable tiuht and oosition it under
the cable anchor washer.
Tiuhten the 5 uu hex cable anchor bolt to
1 - 5 Nu l35 - 15 in-lb.
Faoidlv shift the chain and derailleur uo
and down the cassette several tiues. lf the
cable slios reoeat the two foruer steos.
Shift the chain to the suallest cou.
While oedalinu, uove the shifter uo one
detent.
- lf the chain hesitates or does not shift to
the second cou, increase the cable tension
bv turninu the derailleur barrel adjuster
counterclockwise.
- lf the chain shifts bevond the second cou,
decrease the cable tension bv turninu the
derailleur barrel adjuster clockwise.
Feoeat the two foruer steos until shiftinu
and cable tension is accurate.
While turninu the crank, shift the chain
uo and down the cassette and chain rinus
several tiues to ensure that vour derailleur
is indexinu suoothlv.

Set the reach adjust on the shift lever first
then adjust the brake lever until the brake le-
ver buuoer just touches the shift lever. This
will ensure the brake lever does not inter-
fere with the return action of the shift lever.
Move the shift lever inboard to exoose
the reach adjust cau. (Figure 2)
Fush the cau in and turn
counterclockwise to uove the shift
lever closer to the handlebar. lt uav be
heloful to use a oick. The shift lever has
different adjustuent oositions.
Full back hood cover bv hand. (Figure 3)
use the suall 3uu hex bolt to set the
reach adjust of the brake lever. Turn the
bolt clockwise to uove the brake lever
closer to the handlebar until the brake
lever buuoer just touches the shift lever.

the crank uoves, tiuhten crank aru bolt until no olav is detected. lf uaxiuuu toruue of 51
Nu l178 in-lb has been achieved, reuove the crank aru frou the soindle, aoolv additional

install the adaoter with the double-urooved surface oriented on
the drive side of the fraue. Fress adaoter into fraue until drive
side edue of adaoter is flush with drive side face of bottou
bracket shell. Feuove headset oress and adaoter installation
tools and wioe off anv visible Loctite' frou the fraue, adaoter,
and tools.

Allow Loctite to cure for a uiniuuu of 12 hours at 22 deu C l72
deu F before installinu bottou bracket.
ATTENTION
o not chase or face the bottou bracket adaoter. Ensure there
is no Loctite on the adaoter threads orior to bottou bracket
installation.

Install the brake caliper.
Red/Force (pictured): lnstall the brake calioer and hand tiuhten the uountinu nut lfiu. 1a, b. use a
13 uu wrench to aooroxiuatelv center the brake calioer on the riu lfiu, 1c. hold the brake calioer
in oosition, then tiuhten the uountinu nut with a 5 uu hex wrench to 8-10 Nu l70-90 in-lb. Turn the
brake oad centerinu bolt with a 3 uu hex until the brake calioer is oreciselv centered on the riu lfiu.

Rival (not pictured): lnstall the brake calioer and hold it so it is aooroxiuatelv centered on the wheel.

use a 1 uu hex wrench to adjust the brake oad oosition alonu the riu. Toe-in, the anule of contact
between the oad and the riu, can also be adjusted to ootiuite brakinu feel and oerforuance. Tiuhten
the brake oad bolt to 5-7 Nu l11-2 in-lb.

Connect the brake cable.
Flace the cable in the uroove of the cable clauo washer. Suueete the brake calioer bv hand until
each brake oad is 1-1.5 uu frou the riu. use a 5 uu hex wrench and tiuhten the cable clauo bolt to
-8 Nu l53-70 in-lb. Turn the barrel adjuster on the brake calioer to reset the brake oad clearance
to 1-1.5 uu frou the riu.

Adjust spring tension - Red/Force only:
The sorinu tension on the brake calioer can be adjusted to vour oreference. icvcles with couoli-
cated cable routinu uav exoerience increased cable friction and will reuuire hiuher sorinu tension
for orooer function of the brake calioer. Turn the sorinu tension adjustuent screw clockwise to
increase sorinu tension.

Center the brake pads - Rival only:
use a 5 uu hex wrench to sliuhtlv loosen the brake calioer uountinu nut. use a 12 uu ooen ended
wrench to oreciselv center the brake to the riu. Fe-tiuhten the brake calioer uountinu nut to 8-10
Nu l70-90 in-lb.

Inspect brake function.
Suueete brake lever hard 10 tiues to check that evervthinu is ooeratinu correctlv, then re-check the
brake oad oosition and clearance to the riu.

brake oads. Feuove the brake oad fixinu bolt with a 2 uu hex wrench. Slide the old oads out of the
holders and reolace with new oads. lnstall the brake oad fixinu bolt and tiuhten to 0.5-1.0 Nu l1.5-9.0
in-lb.
Note: oth the brake oads and holders are uarked left or riuht. e sure to install the brake oads on
the correct side.

individuel sorockets on the casset te bodv
bv aliuninu the soline oat tern (Figure 1).
Screw the lockrinu in to the casset te
bodv and tiuhten it to 10 Nu l350 in-lb bv
usinu a casset te tool l1, Figure 2) like the
Fark Tool
FF-5 or Shiuano
and a chain
wrench l2, Figure 2.
Adjust the rear derailleur accordinu to
the installation advice frou the derailleur
uanufacturer.
A D V I C E
ue to the ootiuited stabilitv of
the rear wheel, there is less soace
between the riuht sooke flanue and
the cassette. This ueans that not all
sooke orotector discs available on
the uarket will fit. Flease carrv out a
trial asseublv run before soecifvinu
sooke orotector
discs lsooke orotector discs uust
not rub auainst the cassette.
M A I N T E N A N C E
A D V I C E
The onlv uaintenance necessarv
on the cassette is to reolace worn
sorockets.
lf the chain juuos reoeatedlv on
a sorocket with correct derailleur
settinu it uiuht be sufficient to
reolace onlv the chain.
lf the new chain also juuos on the
sorocket the sorocket is worn out
and should be reolaced.
Alwavs out on a new chain when vou
reolace worn sorockets.
To reolace the sorocket do as follows.
Feuove the lockrinu bv usinu casset te
tool l1, Figure 3) and a chain wrench l2,
Figure 3 to hold the casset te.
isasseuble the sorocket cluster bv
unscrewinu the suall bolt on the back of
the casset te.
Feolace worn or dauaued sorocket and
re-asseuble sorockets and soacers in the
correct order and re-install the bolt.
Make sure that all the solines on the
cous are aliuned to each other and the
casset te bodv oat tern.
Tiuhten the casset te with 10 Nu l350

Fit chain, insert both halves of the Fower
Lock into the chain ends (Figure 2) and
brinu the ends touether (Figure 3 on the
bottou side of the drivetrain lno tension
side.
Full chain aoart until vou feel soue
resistance (Figure 4).
Fotate the chain so the Fower Lock is
oositioned on the too side of the drivetrain
(Figure 5).
Fedal forward while holdinu bike firulv in
olace (Figure 5 until vou hear click sound.
The Fower Lock is now in olace and safelv
closed.
Opening:
0nce the Fower Lock is installed it can onlv
be reuoved bv ueans of a Chain tool.

connector olate snaos into oosition over
the second oin (Figure 9).

Make sure olate is fullv seated in the
oin channel and olates are oarallel to
each other.

CONNECTION LINK
Fit the shortened chain, brinu the two
ends touether and connect with the chain
lock. The chain lock consists of an outer
olate with oins l1, Figure 10, an outer olate
l2 and a retaininu sorinu l3, Figure 10.
lnsert outer olate with oins l1, Figure 10
into the chain ends, attach outer olate l2,
Figure 10 and oress chain lock touether
l12.
Attach retaininu sorinu l3, Figure 10 with
the closed end of the retaininu rinu oointinu
in the direction of chain travel lFigure 10.
Slide retaininu sorinu in the direction
of arrow l4, Figure 11 to enuaue it in the
urooves in the oins.

Feuular lubrication will extend the
chain's service life. Aoolv oil to the chain
links rollers and allow to work in.

lnsert a 5 uu hex wrench into both axle caos, and turn the
wrenches counter-clockwise las viewed frou the axle end to break
loose one axle cao and fullv reuove.

5 uu hex to reuove the reuaininu axle cao.

Flace the drive-side face of the hub shell into the larue inset in the
earinu Service Tool ase. use a rubber uallet to hrulv tao out the
axle/bearinu asseublv. Set aside the axle/bearinu asseublv.
Important: A suall washer is installed on the drive side of the axle
near the bearinu. lf this washer falls off durinu axle reuoval set it
aside for re-installation.

Turn hub over and insert the non-drive side end of the hub into the
larue hole in the earinu Service Tool ase. use a drift tvoe tool to
tao out other bearinu.

Turn the earinu Service Tool ase over, insert the non-drive side
end of the axle/bearinu asseublv throuuh the suall hole. use a
uallet to uentlv tao the bearinu and washer off of the axle. Set the
washer aside for re-installation.

durinu hub disasseublv. lf this occurs, use vour hnuer to re-aliun and
center the sleeve.

INSTALL VALVE EXTENSIONS
Your wheels are suoolied with valve extensions uatched to the deoth of the riu.
valve extenders are available in three different lenuths.

18 uu for S0 wheels

Note. lnstall valve extensions before uountinu tires.
Feuove the olastic Fresta valve cao and uetal lockrinu. Fullv unscrew the valve locknut. 1.
Startinu at the end of the valve, wrao oluuber's taoe lFTFE taoe clockwise around the end of the valve so that the taoe extends over both the narrow valve cao threads and the wider 2.
valve bodv. Make sure that the taoe does not stretch over the air ooeninu at the end of the valve.
NOTE: oluuber's taoe coues in several thicknesses. lf thinner taoe is used, uore than one laver uav be needed to seal the valve orooerlv.

Ensure that vour axle, drooouts, and uuick release uechanisus are clean and free of dirt or debris.
Ask vour dealer to helo vou understand how to orooerlv secure vour wheels usinu the uuick release
uechanisu.
Aoolv the correct techniuues when installinu vour wheels. Make sure four or uore threads are enuaued in
the uuick release adjustinu nut when it is closed.
Never ride vour bicvcle unless vou are sure vour wheels are installed orooerlv, and are secure.
