com TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: I have been asked to write a letter of reference on behalf of Miss Cortney Marschuetz, and I am very pleased to do so. I have had the privilege of being her Student Teaching Supervisor for Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, throughout her split placements. Both of her placements were at Jordan Creek Elementary School in the West Des Moines Community School District. Her first placement was in the second grade classroom of Mrs. Tiffany Murphy, from August 27, 2012 through October 12, 2012. Her second placement was in the Early Childhood Special Education classroom of Ms. Teresa Gallentine, from October 15, 2012 through December 7, 2012. I have been very pleased with every aspect of Cortneys student teaching. I have formally observed Miss Marschuetz six times during her student teaching, and I worked with the mentor teachers to complete a midterm evaluation and a final evaluation in both of her placements. In addition, I taught seminars at Drake University, basically every other Tuesday evening. Miss Marschuetz attended those seminars, along with the other student teachers I supervised. I know that Cortney learned a great deal from both of her mentor teachers, and she was always willing to learn, listen to advice, and to improve her teaching in whatever ways were suggested. Whether in second grade or in the Early Childhood classroom, Miss Marschuetz developed an outstanding relationship with the students. As a former elementary principal with 29 years of experience, I know that this is invaluable when hiring teaching staff. Another thing that makes her an applicant I would strongly suggest that you would want to interview is that she is very positive and would become an excellent team player. She utilized her initiative to demonstrate that she always wanted to grow, learn, and help with all opportunities. She does her very best, has great self-reflection, and truly enjoys the students with whom she works. As a former elementary principal with 29 years of experience, I smile when I think of this young lady. She is exactly the type of applicant I would have loved to have interviewed and to have hired as a staff member at any of the schools where I served. In my estimation, the fact that she has a great heart for her students, a great heart for learning, and a great heart for education, make her very desirable as a prospective teacher. If I may be of further assistance regarding Miss Cortney Marschuetz, please feel free to contact me at either of the addresses or the telephone number listed on this letterhead.

Jim Mayse, Drake University Student Teaching Supervisor

To Whom It May Concern: I am pleased to be able to be able to highly recommend Cortney Marschuetz for an elementary teaching position. I had the pleasure of hosting Cortney as a student teacher for nine weeks. Cortney showed great enthusiasm setting up the classroom, meeting students and parents, working with team members in professional learning communities, and attending professional development with the elementary staff. She possesses a kind, caring, positive, and enthusiastic personality that was contagious with the students in the learning environment. Cortney exceeded expectations as she taught full time for two weeks. She became confident in creating lessons for standards and benchmarks using the core curriculum. She designed learning targets, daily lessons with enrichment, and unit assessments using the curriculum of Everyday Math, Being a Writer, Making Meaning, and Daily Five and Caf. She was eager to differentiate lessons to meet the needs for all students and showed great organization in daily planning and progress monitoring. I am confident that Cortney will be an asset to any staff that she works with. She is confident, knowledgeable, and hard working. She desires to do her best each day and shows strong knowledge in self-reflection. She is eager to continuously learn and apply best practices for teaching. Please feel free to contact me for more information. Sincerely, Tiffany Murphy Jordan Creek Elementary Second Grade Teacher murphyta@wdmcs.org
