Canon i350 waste tank full

Post to this thread Canon i350 waste tank full by needfix (7/29/04 1:59 AM) reply I have a canon i350 that is telling me that the waste tank is full. I have in the past with a s200 cleaned the felt pad and then used the reset sequence to fix. I have already cleaned the pad but I cannot find the reset for the i350. I did find the following but it only works temporary.... i250, i350 and i000 series 1: Unplug power and USB 2: Open door and hold power button. 3: Connect power. 4: Close door, then release power button 5: Connect USB and an press power to use. This method will work only whilst the printer's connected to power. Turning off and on at the switch will keep it, but unplugging it from the power will reset it, which means you'll have to do this again: What this does is temporarily reset the printer, but also stops it from doing headcleans everytime you open the door to switch print heads or ink tanks. Anyone have a reset that works? just a note, the canon bjc2000/s200/s100 type of printer were very easy to disassemble but the i350 is a right pain +/-

Try this it is generally for the i320 i255 but it should do the trick. i320 waste ink counter reset. 1. Turn off the printer. 2. Press and hold the POWER button, turn on the printer. 3. The indicator should be green. 3. Press and release the RESUME button , the indicator should be orange. 4. Press and release the RESUME button again, the indicator should be green. 5. Release both buttons. 6.Connect the printer to PC. 7.Open General Tool software, choose USB PORT . 8.Choose SET DESTINATION 1 ,OK! You can download the software at: http://www.it0577.com/yezmao/i320.exe

Re: Canon i350 waste tank full by Anonymous (3/31/05 6:30 AM) reply Hi, Needfix! Congratulations on finding the ink pad. ((On screen message refers the user to the manual but there's nothing in the manual about this. Nor in online Help! I've twice gone to helpdesk@cuk.canon.co.uk but they will not reply. Bad show!)) When I take things apart I usually cannot put them together again. I'm told that the i350 is a devil. How did you dismantle? Where is the ink pad? What does it look like? How did you clean it? And did you even find a good reset code? Herbert

Re: Canon i350 waste tank full by IceBrandZero (5/20/05 1:57 AM) reply here are the steps to make it a permanent reset. please follow these instructions carefully as you might end up doing the wrong thing and end up not resetting your printer. Using the I320 Service Tool 1. setup your pc and install windows 98/98SE/ME. this is required to ensure that the i320 service tool will run. 2. after installation (which includes all drivers), install the appropriate printer driver for the printer. you can download it from canon's driver download site. 3. run the i320 service tool and follow the steps below. EEPROM reset / Destination setting 4. install the print head, and while holding down the POWER button, plug in the AC cable (the green lamp lights up.) 5. while still holding down the POWER button, press the RESUME button twice and release the POWER button to enter the Service Mode (each press of the RESUME button changes the LED color: the LED lights in orange the first time, and in green at the second time.) 6. connect the printer to the computer, select "USB PORT" using the i320 service tool. 7. Destination setting -other than Japan: select "1" in "SET DESTINATION" -Japan: select "2" in "SET DESTINATION" EEPROM reset EEPROM is reset at the same time when the destination is set. you can download the i320 Service Tool from this address: http://www.it0577.com/yezmao/i320.exe note: the "I/F dll can not be loaded" error means that you were running the i320 service tool without the printer's drivers installed on your computer. make sure that you have installed the printer driver first before attempting to reset the printer.

Re: Canon i350 waste tank full and broken pad by PeterNotRegistered (6/18/05 3:15 PM) reply Today I was at an i350 - waste tank full, blinked 8 times, later blinked orange-green. The printer can be temporarily reset with the procedure mentioned everywhere-else. I repeat here what I did. (1) unplug printer (2) press POWER (3) plug printer, led goes to GREEN. (4) press RESUME twice. led goes to ORANGE on first press, to GREEN on second. Now printer is in maintenance mode, and as long as you do not unplug it, you can use it for printing (it can be switched off and on with POWER key, however) The printer was then permanently reset with the i320 procedure mentioned in this thread, second posting, by ICEBRANDZERO, PRINTX and others. (We did not check erase EEPROM, but simply SET DESTINATION and QUIT). Printer driver from Canon for i350 had to be installed, and printer installed (it is USB, therefore automatic), otherwise I/F DLL not found error. Note that the reset sequence for other printers, e.g. 4x RESUME and then POWER to clear to ink counter, did nothing on our i350. Opening the case involved bending plastic parts, in addition to exactly two screws accessible from the inside front, left and right down of the print head carriage. We removed the side caps, then the front door, then the paper support (bending), then removed the two screws, then unfastened two latches by pressing

Physical cleaning of the pads is problematic. The pads cannot simply be removed, it is an assembly and we broke it by ignoring this fact and simply pulling. NOW WE DO NOT NOW HOW TO REASSEMBLE IT, a TALL plastic PART AND A SPRING are lying AROUND. (will the i320 simplified manual from www.2manuals.com help us??)

Re: Canon i350 waste tank full by Wassuck (2/13/06 9:00 AM) reply Hi, I too have experienced the dreaded 'waste ink tank almost full' and then the cataclysmic 'waste ink tank full' messages followed by a recalcitrant printer that doesn't, thereby assuming the role of an expensive and useless paper weight! Captain Needfix was right (Thanks Mr.Needfix!) Instructions below: i250, i350 and i000 series 1: Unplug power and USB 2: Open door and hold power button. However, I also cleaned my 'tank'. What a joke! The tank consists of two high density foam pads. These are not glued and fit on a suspension chassis where the print heads/tanks rest when inactive. For those that are interested, THERE IS NO TANK to drain, just pads to clean. The i350 does not have a waste tank. The i350 manual and installation CD's user guide do not even mention this problem which is shameful. To get to the pads is simple and should take less than 10 minutes: 1.Power down your i350. 2.Carefully prise off the silver cover on the power/resume button side of the printer to allow greater access to the pesky pads. 3.Then switch your interminable brute on. 4.As the print heads/tanks track left, flip up the securing latch... 5.....which brings it to a rest as per ink tank replacement etc.. 6.Shine a decent light into the printer and then carefully remove the two pads using a pair of tweezers (printer ink is a nasty, toxic subtance which could make your wedding tackle fall off if you are not careful). Note which way round they go and which is which (rounded ends to the front). 7.Using contact cleaner or JR Inkjet 'Universal'flush(available from Maplin's) proceed by cleaning the pads. Dabbing them in a suitable container until all traces of ink have been removedis my chosen method.Be careful NOT to fold, bend or twist the pads as the only way you will get others is by 'borrowing' some from somewhere or another or by making your own which could be difficult. 8.Place the now clean but damp pads on a radiator until bone dry. 9. After a while...replace them carefully in the reverse of the proceedure above. 10. Finally follow Mr.Needfix's proceedure to reset the printer (above). Please note, however that my printer reached the 'waste ink tank full' stage before I leapt into action like a coiled spring! Hope this is useful to people out there and up yours Canon! Thanks again to Needfix and cheers all, Wassuck

Re: Re: Canon i350 waste tank full by wayne g (5/16/06 11:32 PM) reply I have a s100sp that came up with the waste tank full message, I googled (waste tank full "s series" canon) + came up with http://www.printersiam.com It explains the printer reset for many many printers, the s100sp is not a s series printer but a bjc-1000 series. The instructions that worked for me are as follows along with my own notes (***) Canon BJC 1000 Serie 1: Remove Cartridge (the cartridge wouldn't move for me when you open the cover so I tugged gently on the cable to the cartridge remove position and removed the whole print head by using the blue release leaver on the bottom of the cartridge. "not the paper select leaver at the top of the cartridge) 2: Unplug the AC Power Cord (I also unplugged the usb cord just in case) 3: Hold down the RESUME button 4: Release RESUME after plugging in the AC Power cord. 5: Press the RESUME once within 5 seconds and release the RESUME . 6: Press and HOLD RESUME for two seconds or more and release it. 7: Press and HOLD RESUME for two seconds or more and release it. 8: Unplug AC Power Cord to set data. (put back in usb cable) (put back in cartridge) (In the bottom of your printer there is a felt sponge the same shape as the bottom of your printer tray, there was bugger all ink in the waste tank/pad what a lark, some have suggested you can go through 3 ink tank full messages before replacing the ink tank pad - I have also noticed from previous printers that you could also put the waste tank pad inside a garbage bag and squeeze it like a sponge. Won't make it new but it will give you a little more life, wear gloves apron etc + put garbage bag minus pad into garbage. If you are really worried about the ink going every where you can buy a bag of gitty litter , snip the top and pour the ink in, don't say I didn't warn you about it being messy)

Re: Canon i350 waste tank full by Anonymous (5/20/06 11:45 AM) reply Here's a strange one. Don't know if it will work for you. None of the resets worked, so I turned the printer off and the print head was all the way to the right. I pushed it there, not hard, but firmly. Then I turned it on and it worked. Weird! The rest codes normally work for the 4 blink errors, but this time they did not and this did! Go figure! Good luck!

Re: Canon i350 waste tank full by piffpaffpoltrie (edited 6/24/06 1:02 AM) reply Hi folks I successfully have reset and cleaned my i350 printer. It gave me quite a hard time mechanically, both with removing and re-inserting the mechanism. So I thought it would be nice to write up the steps required for anyone who doesn t like to invent the wheel a 2nd time... BTW: In order to write this up, I removed and re-installed the mechanism again; this time as I knew most of the steps already this was done within 20 minutes and looked to me quite an easy job so don t get discouraged, perhaps it isn t as difficult as you may think. Disclaimer: As I m giving this information as a private person, I cannot take any responsibility if you should happen to damage your printer by following these instructions. But: I did it twice, and my printer is still printing, so why not give it a try no risk, no fun. Here we go: All screws are the same size and thread unless noted otherwise. 1. Turn the printer upside down, remove the paper output guide (2 screws). 2. Remove the silver-colored left and right covers 2 bottom latches each. Removing the dark gray power supply unit is not required. 3. Turn the printer again, remove the front flap (bend it slightly and unhook). 4. Remove the rear paper feed guide (bend the right- and left-end hinged parts slightly inwards with the help of a screwdriver and unhook). Remove the helical spring before taking the paper feed guide out. 5. Remove the upper cover 2 screws left/right within the lower part of the front opening, two latches at the rear of the paper feed. 6. Remove the cover around the USB connector this can just be lifted out upwards. 7. Please be very careful with the transparent guide for the print head position detector! 8. Unplug all cables from the PCB; all connectors are different, that means they cannot be replugged to a wrong place. Remove the wires from the holders. Be very careful with the flexible flat cable to the print head. 9. Remove the screw (M3x3.5) at the front bottom of the mechanism, a little right from the center. This screw holds the left bearing bracket (white plastic) of the large paper intake roller in place. From the front, shift the plastic part 1...2 mm to the left in such a way that the left axle end of the paper intake roller comes free. 10. Left side: Remove the upper screw and the two lower screws (M3x5.5). 11. Right side: Remove the upper screw. 12. Lower end of the mechanism: Remove the two screws at the front and one behind the mechanism (take care not to damage any components on the PCB). 13. Please be very careful with the transparent guide for the print head position detector! 14. Now the mechanism can be lifted out upwards. 15. Remove 5 screws of the paper intake mechanism; one of them is located near the waste ink nozzle at the right front and holds a black plastic part down. Leave the two waste ink hoses connected and put the unit in front of the printer. 16. Access to the waste ink pads is free now. Rinse them thoroughly with clear water and let them dry for a while, a day in the sun or so. 17. Put everything together in reverse order. Needless to say that you should proceed with care. Should any of the 5 spiral springs of the paper guide (white plastic part at the rear of the mechanism) have fallen out, re-insert it from the rear with the short leg that s easy because you can see it finding its way from the front. Once in place, re-hook the longer leg at the rear of the mechanism; this step should be performed after fixing the mechanism to the printer s bottom, but before re-installing the wiring and covers. Make sure that the wiring doesn t obstruct the movement of the black paper sensor lever near the large paper intake roller. When installing the silver-colored left and right covers, refer to their L/R labeling. One more thought about re-setting the ink counter: The procedures mentioned in this thread are correct, the iP1500GeneralTool_98_2K_XP also works under Win2k - as its name implies. But be aware of the fact that the tool can connect to the printer only after a temporary reset of the ink counter, as described in needfix s first message in this thread. Otherwise, clicking the EEP-ROM INFORMATION button will not show any result. Good luck! Robert Learn from the mistakes of others - you can never live long enough to make them all yourself. Edit June 24, '06 - One more comment: When assembling, do a printing test before fitting the housing. It happened to me that the mechanism was not placed accurately enough, the symptom was a much louder noise from all the toothed gears. If this

should happen to you, too, slightly loosen all mechnism fixing screws and shift the mechanism sidewards until the paper feed noise is minimized, then tighten the screws again.

Re: Re: Canon i350 waste tank full by born loser Sam (9/11/06 8:02 AM) reply Sorry to burst your bubble, but the i350 does have ink tank pads to clean. The pads are felt pads. There are two of them. Everything has to be removed to get to them and it is a bugger to put the machine back together, because there are five springs attached to one part that just love to fall out. The little pads you refer to are just filters to the actual pads. If you look closely at the bottom of the filters you will see two hoses leaving the bottom of the filters going to the back of the i350.

Re: Canon i350 waste tank full by trigger1937 (3/8/07 8:45 PM) reply Hello, I have a i550 and have read all the posts above, and I've tried all the suggested resets. While all the lights follow the correct sequence of blinks (Green - yellow), and especially 4 yellow blinks for each press of the resume button,.. the reset does not work. I have also first done the EEprom reset (3 pushes of resume in Service mode), then did the waste reset. Still does not work. Power back on the unit and there are the 7 blinking lights saying the waste ink tank is full. It blinks green followed by 7 yellow and back to green and then repeats. It will not come ready in the PC printer control. One other very important fact,.. I found it would not even attempt to go into Service mode until I followed Neil Slades web site suggestion that for his i960 printer, you have to remove the ink cartridges and the printhead before you start the reset process. I had tried to do the reset many ways and many times before and could not even get it to give the proper G-Y blinks. ONce I took out the printhead, it did follow the G-Y sequence but still shows 7 blinks when I power back on. I suspect that the sensor that orginally says the ink pad is full is still set and that I will have to clean the unit to clear that sensor. I just looked at the i550,850, i950, i560 Service Manuals and they show an "Ink Sensor" in the base? with a line feeding the main CPU logic board. I am going to try and force a test print in Service Mode and see if I really reset the EEprom and the waste ink counter. I would greatly appreciate any information others may have for the i550, or the i560. Thanks

Canon BJC-250 waste tank full by railbus (5/2/07 8:48 AM) reply Hello, I have tried ALL of the suggestions above and none seems to work. The printer has gone from flashing green to solid orange. This is the BJC-250, purchased in Canada in 1998. Here is what I have done (in no particular order): 1. reboot the computer 2. re-install the drivers 3. clean the ink pads by running water over them until no more ink came out. The pads still have the ink stains but they are dry. 4. follow the EPROM reset as well as the standard list of 5 instructions that were posted here. 5. checked other sources on the net 6. computer says the device is working properly when I check my LPT1 port in device manager 7. have also reset the print spooler 8. I have been using WIndowsXP since 2003. The printer stopped working a few days ago, as luck would have it, a day before a job interview. Still nothing. Anything else I can try?

Re: Canon i350 waste tank full by Timktai (12/23/08 3:14 PM) reply Thanks ever so much! I've finally fixed my i350 on my WinXP box! I followed the temporary fix in needfix's first post to get the printer online again: 1: Unplug power and USB 2: Open door and hold power button. 3: Connect power. 4: Close door, then release power button 5: Connect USB and an press power to use. This method will work only whilst the printer's connected to power. Turning off and on at the switch will keep it, but unplugging it from the power will reset it, which means you'll have to do this again: What this

does is temporarily reset the printer, but also stops it from doing headcleans everytime you open the door to switch print heads or ink tanks. For some reason, the print spooler service had died, so I had to fire that up again in order to connect to the printer. 1) Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services 2) Right click on Print Spooler and select Start Then I downloaded and ran the i500 Service Tool posted by MARIUSeek to reset the EEPROM. http://www.printersiam.com/data/download/iP1500%20Service%20Tool.zip 1. Connect the printer with the computer and power on. 2. Open iP1500GeneralTool_98_2K_XP 3. Select the USB port. To verify conection press EEP-ROM INFORMATION button, you should see info about your printer. 4. Check the EEPROM CLEAR checkbox 5. Press TEST PATTERN 1 button. You should see NOW PRINTING in left down corner and the led is blinking green. I didn't need to dismantle my i350 to get to the foam pads to clean them. I just turned off my printer, pulled the print head aside, and I could access the pads fine from the door. They were held in with little rubber gaskets, and were easy to lift out with a small screwdriver.

Re: Canon i350 waste tank full by jlstrueblue (3/16/09 1:56 PM) reply Just wanted to add that I cleaned the felt pads on my i350 with plain rubbing alcohol, then blotted them dry with a shop towel. Reinstalled in printer and followed reset instructions. Printer works like new! Thanks for your help!

Re: Canon i350 waste tank full by Mattoo (6/18/09 4:12 PM) reply Hi, Thanks guys for rescuing me from buying a new printer. The posting on temporary and permanent reset of Canon i350 printer counter by Timktai works. The link for downloading the service tool for i500 is still okay, which i use to reset my i350 canon printer on Win XP. regards, Mattoo.

Re: Re: Canon i350 waste tank full by tomcat78e (6/27/09 11:41 PM) reply Wow this really worked for my canon i350. Thank you so much. And to think that the recommendation from the manual is to replace the printer for a simple problem such as this. It is a temporary solution as sometimes the problem comes back again especially when you disconnect the printer from the power point.

canon i250 by Anonymous (10/13/09 1:32 PM) reply my waste inkpad is full but i read on one web site all you have to do is press down on the power button then still keeping your finger on the power buton switch the mains supply on to the printer, then still keeping your finger on the power button press the reset button on the printer eg the other button next to the power button on the printer. Keep it pressed for a few seconds then release it and the power button, and all should be ok. Printer will work untill the printer is switched off at the mains.

Re: Canon i350 waste tank full by Anonymous (11/23/09 7:38 AM) reply Thanks guys took my i350 apart and cleaned pads and is now working fine. Pads easy to remove and rinse under running tap. There are 2 springs under the housing where the pads sit. dont be curious like I was otherwise you will have to re attach them. Both anchor to the same point in the base of the printer. Bit fiddley to get it back into place so be prepared to get some ink on your fingers doing so. Used the Temp measure for the reset as not planning to unplug it. With Most printers now days running with expensive ink cartridges, it is always worthwhile giving a DIY fix a go. The printer is near on dead anyway so nothing really to lose.
