What are the effects of unemployment among the people of North Haslington.

REASONS FOR SELECTING THE AREA OF RESEARCH

METHOD OF INVESTIGATION

In order to collect data for the investigation, the researcher have plan to used printed questionnaires which will be distributed to residents of the village through random selection. The researcher plans to used gather information by the use of primary method. Advantages of primary research It is more easy and economical Important information is obtained

Disadvantage of primary research The respondents may give incorrect data

The volume of responses may be inadequate

Dear Respondents, I am a student of form 5 science at the Hope Secondary School who is preparing to write the C.X.C examination that is schedule for the year 2012. I am carrying out a survey to find out the effects of unemployment in Haslington. This study is being carried out as a School Based Assessment (S.B.A) for Social-Studes. You are advised to answer all the following questions honestly and truthfully. No names or what so ever is needed, so no one will know who answer. Procedure of data collection

The population of North Haslington, which has approximately 250 household was selected. It was calculated that a sample of 20% was necessary in order to ensure an accurate response on the effect of unemployment. On the 29th December,2011 the researcher distributed the questionnaires to the villagers around 5:30 pm. A total of 30 questionnaires were distributed. In instance where members were not at home, the questionnaires were left in mail boxes with a note to be returned.

ANALYSIS AND INTERPREATATION OF DATA

Figure 1- A significant of 87% of the respondent standard of living was affected while 13% was not affected. When compared, the majority of the respondent standard of living was affected. This was so cause of them being unemployed.

Figure 2- The fact of being unemployed, have an effect on businesses as well the people. There has been an increase in teenage pregnancy by 17 while no increase in teenage pregnancy 13 was provided. When accumulated, there is an increase in teenage pregnancy due to their parents being unemployed.

Figure 3-Since unemployment as gone on the rise, more and more crime as being taking place in the area. The number of respondents as pose that 27 of the 30 was affected by crime while 3 of 30 was not affected.Overall,the general effect of unemployment is there is an increase in crime among the villagers of North Haslington.

STATEMENT OF FINDINGS
The survey as reveal the following aspects to the effects of unemployment: More than half the number of respondents proved that their standard of living was cut due to being unemployed. Teenage pregnancy has gone on the rise. There is a significant rise in crime rate.

RECOMMENDATIONS AND IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGY

The efficient effect of unemployment cannot be overestimated. In order to solve this problem, here are some possible ways in which can be done to improve the problem: The government should provide more job opportunities for the citizens. Systems should be put in place to compensate the unemployed. More training facilities should be provided for teens.

In the aid in the completion of this study, the researcher would like to thank a number of people for their kind assistant and cooperation which they provided. The researcher would like to thank his family for their assistant and encouragement which they provided. INTRODUCTION

Unemployment refers to the number or proportion of people in an economy who are willing and able to work, but are unable to get a job. A person in this situation is said to be unemployed. People who are not willing or able to work, for whatever reason, are not count towards unemployment figures. Unemployment carries a significant social costs. People who are unable to find work must frequently rely on benefits for income. This can make life extremely difficult. However, the sense of failure, boredom and rejection of being unemployed can generate real social consequences. Unemployment is expressed as a percentage of the total available work force. The level of unemployment varies with economic conditions and other circumstances.
