Mathematics Class Syllabus: Algebra 2/Geometry


A. Taylor, Instructor Room 205

This syllabus is designed to help you organize yourself so you will be prepared for
success. My expectations for each student are high, because I believe all students have
greatness within them. This syllabus should help you and your parents become familiar
with structural concerns in this class. It is also hopeful that parents take an active role in

Class Overview
Algebra 2 will concentrate on the following Big Ideas:
1. Functions
2. Quadratics
3. Polynomials
4. Trigonometry
5. Sequences and Series
Geometry will concentrate on the following Big Ideas:
1. Polygons
2. Proportions
3. Trigonometry
4. Circles
5. Equations

Materials
For the class, students are encouraged to bring a ruler and a calculator. Paper
and pencils are the responsibility of the student. The textbook is Algebra 2
(Geometry): Integration, Application, Connections by Glencoe/McGraw-Hill.

Rules
The rules of the class are simple. The school and district rules will be enforced at
all times. The consequences of violating these rules can range from a zero
participation point for the day to expulsion.

Each pass requires a security escort. This is non negotiable! Handle bathroom
necessities between classes or at lunch. Instructional time is precious!

Tests and quizzes are to be done in pencil (unless otherwise indicated) to receive
full credit.

Homework will be collected every Friday based on what was assigned during the
week. It will be worth one homework grade.

Show all work to receive partial credit.

Rules maybe modified to ensure classroom management without notice. There


will not be any conflict with district or local school rules, should any rules be
added or deleted.
Assessments
There are a variety of assessments. Workshop Journals are considered to be
one form of special projects.

Grades will be based on Tests, Notebook Checks, Quizzes,


Class Participation, Special Projects & Homework.
Tests and Special Projects will count 40%.
Quizzes will count 35%.
Class Participation & Notebook Check will count for 15%. Homework will count 10%.
Extra Credit will be available by the decision of the instructor.

Grading Scale
100 - 90 = A 89 - 80 = B 79 - 70 = C 69 - 60 = D 59 - 0 = F

Classroom Maintenance:

1] Take out notebooks, homework, text, and pencil at the beginning of the class
hour.

2] Be respectful of all members in the class.

3] Be responsible for your actions and your education.

4] Display proper classroom behavior.

Most importantly remember- through hard work and


consistent believe in your personal greatness- you can
succeed in this class!
