4th BCT families meet at DFAC for teambuilding event

Families of the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st
Armored Division met Saturday at Longknife
Village dining facility for team building and to
meet all the members of the 4-1 rear detachment
who will be their first line of communication
while the brigade is deployed.
According to Maj. Axel Hernandez, rear
detachment commander, “it was a great experi-
ence to get to know the family members of the
brigade.”
Three hundred-thirty family members attended
and, according to Amy Thomas, D Co. 4-1 family
readiness group leader, “This was great fellow-
ship, fun and family time.”
Ashley Glick, spouse of Pfc. Matthew Glick,
HHB 2-29 Field Artillery said, “This is very help-
ful for wives to meet other wives and to cope with
the Soldiers being gone. Now I know who the rear
detachment personnel are and I will feel more
comfortable if I ever have to call them.”
Vianne Newell, who spearheaded the event and
is the wife of Col. Peter Newell, brigade com-
mander, said “You don’t get to pick your family
and you don’t get to pick the people you are sta-
tioned with. It is important to become familiar
