NEPAL

Nepals total population now stands at 26,494,504, an increase of 14.44 percent over the last 10 years, the final report of the National Census 2011 showed on Monday. The last census in 2001 had put the total population at 23,151,423.

CHINA
Changes to the family planning policy are being considered, and action plans have been drawn up, amid a graying society and other demographic challenges, according to a former minister of the National Population and Family Planning Commission.

Korea called off the launch of its first space rocket again on Thursday due to a technical glitch on its electronic systems. Officials of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the Korea Aerospace Research Institute said that they detected malfunctions in the control system for a hydraulic pump that provides the thrust to the second-stage solid rocket.

The government will make greater efforts to gather information on a possible North Korean missile launch, Chief Cabinet Secretary Osamu Fujimura said Monday. In a press conference, Fujimura referred to recent indications that North Korea may be preparing a ballistic missile launch.
