As was reported by the Florence Town Manager at the Sun City Town Hall meeting on November 13, 2012, the Town Council will soon be reviewing a contract for waste collection services to include trash, recycling and bulk waste pickup for all Florence residence. This action will take place at a council meeting in either December 2012 or January 2013. The Town Council meets on the first and third Monday of each month. In the meantime residents of Sun City can continue to recycle paper and corrugated at the drop off containers located in the Parking Lot of the Union Center. In addition the Pinal County Recycling Transfer Station located on Adamsville Road in Florence will accept glass, plastics and tin cans. There are drop off bins outside the fenced area of the Transfer Station and therefore drop off can be done at any time. The best time to come would be in the afternoon after bins have been emptied for the day.

Volunteer Extraordinaire
The article this month may be a little different from the past, but this particular group of residents deserves to be saluted for their success in giving back to those in need. They are the Piecemakers Chartered Club and their dedicated husbands. There are no men who actually belong to this club and really, whats with that?! Here are just a few ways this group contributes to our local community. Thus far the Piecemakers have contributed 57 Quilts of Valor to Purple Heart recipients. Twenty quilts went to Home of the Brave charities. They have made and donated more than 400 quilts for the Pinal County Advocacy Group and the Pinal County Sherriffs Department. 15 Holiday quilts were given to their adopted families through Project Bridge. Gift cards and Christmas stockings filled with goodies were given to Angel House charities, Project Bridge and the MS Walk. Contributed raffle baskets to Del Webb Goes Pink and other events over the past few years. In order to support these efforts, the group hosts the annual Spaghetti Dinner, participate in the FITT for Life Expo and the Sun City Holiday Boutique. And, if you have never been down the Craft room corridor, you must check out their display window for great gift ideas for friends and family. All the money made goes directly back to the Club so they can share the joy with our community.

The Angel Tree & Sun City Residents Give Local Families Reasons to Smile
We have traditions and one of those has become our work with Tonya Thompson and Project Bridge. Project Bridge is an effort directed by Tonya on behalf of families within the Florence Unified School District. We support them in many ways and our Angel Tree is just one of those endeavors. Soon you will see a Christmas tree hung with paper angels just as you have for the past several years. Each angel represents a family or childs simple Christmas wish. You may put a smile on a childs face or cause a tear to run down the face of Mom or Dad as they watch their childs face light up with the wonder of the holiday. So, when you see our Angel Tree, stop and read the wishes written on some of the angels. Your heart will be touched as you think about the family that needs our help. If youre able, please take an angel or two with you. Become a grantor of wishes; a smile-maker; maybe even a life-changer in someones life. Lets continue this great work and support struggling, local families whose needs far outweigh their simple wishes.
