Media Officers Vacancy Announcement

Arab Renaissance for Democracy and Development-Legal Aid (ARDD-LA) -- a Jordan-based human rights non-profit organization -- is seeking to recruit qualified staff for the following positions: Media Officer Project Officer Research Officer Media Officer Overall purpose of the job: To strengthen the communications and media work of ARDD-LA by engaging the broader Jordanian public on advocacy issues and raising ARDD-LAs profile, primarily through communication tools, ARDD-LAs media and events. Key Contacts (external): Jordan and Middle East based media both print and electronic; All relevant stakeholders in issues of interest to ARDD-LA, governments and non-governmental. Key Contacts (internal): Programs Manager, Head of Gender Justice Unit, Director. Principal Responsibilities: (a) Operation & Monitoring

1. To report on ARDD-LAs participation in external activities and the organizations advocacy activities and outputs, in coordination with the Project Officer/Manager; 2. To conceptualize and develop creative communication actions and advocacy tools for ARDD-LA targeting the Jordanian and regional reach audiences, such as a periodic newsletter; posters, brochures, etc. 3. To develop media communication, including drafting press briefings and releases, testimonies of beneficiaries and partners, and ensuring their distribution to the target groups, and updating the website and ARDD-LAs accounts on social media websites to reflect developments; 4. To monitor and analyze ARDD-LA press and the coverage of relevant issues to its work; 5. To document events using audio and video media tools for further use; 6. To assist in planning for media and advocacy campaigns; 7. Write stories and investigative articles about humanitarian issues of interest to ARDD-LA; 8. Assist in designing and implementing data collection instruments for M&E indicators and in conducting data analysis, synthesis, and communication of results. (b) Networking & Outreach

9. To strengthen ARDD-LAs media relations as a tool to engage the broader Jordanian and regional public in its advocacy work; 10. To build and promote partnerships with other organizations and actors; 11. To represent ARDD-LA at meetings with institutions and other external stakeholders (including media outlets) as well as at conferences, seminars and other media or advocacy events; 12. To organize and conduct communication actions and events, including facilitation.

Other Responsibilities 13. To execute all relevant activities and tasks, internal or externally, in accordance with the overall aims of the organization and its policies and procedures; 14. To participate in training and other activities as requested by the organization; 15. To perform any other tasks related to media and communication; 16. To work cooperatively and supportively with the ARDD-LA team and other humanitarian actors and entities, partners and stakeholders, and to identify short comings in communication and find appropriate solutions; 17. To coordinate closely with Project Management team in conducting events or taking actions. Skill Requirements: 1. Experience and Knowledge 2-3 Years of relevant communications related work experience, preferred in the NGO sector; Knowledge in International Human Rights; BA or MA in a relevant field (development, communication, media, human rights, social sciences, etc.); Experience in diverse work environments and intercultural communication is an asset. 2. Skills Very good communication, networking, and inter-personal skills; Creativity in regards to communication; Proven excellence in writing and editing skills in English and Arabic; Good research and analytical skills; Good knowledge of computer tools, web management, and social media. 3. Personal Qualities Ability to handle pressure; Willingness to travel inside and outside Jordan; Driven and motivated by human rights issues; Demonstrated gender sensitivity and awareness.
