MEMORANDUM TO: All Interested Parties FROM: Kevin Tschirhart, Patriots for Freedom Senior Adviser RE: Post-Election

Polling Update, NY 1st Congressional District DATE: December 3, 2012 Patriots for Freedom analyzed a post-election poll of voters in New Yorks First District. The results demonstrate Randy Altschuler is simply unelectable. He again lost to Tim Bishop due to his record of outsourcing American jobs to India, his failure to win a significant majority of Republican votes, and his lack of interparty appeal.

Background
In 2010, Altschuler lost to Bishop by 593 votes. This year, Altschuler received the Independence Party endorsement, which went to Bishop in 2010. Altschuler touted the endorsement as a sign he would win because Bishop received over 7,000 votes on that line in 2010. Nevertheless, Altschuler lost to Bishop by more than 11,000 votes.

Not Winning Republicans

Randy Altschulers second straight loss to Tim Bishop resulted largely from his failure to win Republican votes. Only 59.5% of Republicans cast their vote for Altschuler. 31.5% of Republicans voted for Bishop. Conversely, Bishop received 80% of Democrat votes.
In the election for US Congress, for whom did you vote, Randy Altschuler, the Republican, or Tim Bishop, the Democrat?

Altschuler Bishop DK/Refused

Party Registration Republican Democrat Independent 59.5 8.4 49.1 31.5 80.0 39.6 9.0 11.6 11.3

Had Altschuler won Republican votes with the same majority that Bishop won Democrat votes, the election would have swung by over 7 percentage points in favor of Altschuler. Altschulers failure to win Republican votes likely cost him the election. Paid for by Patriots for Freedom www.PatriotsforFreedomPAC.com Not Authorized by any Candidate or Candidates Committee

The Outsourcing Effect

An astounding 40% of voters said his record of outsourcing influenced them to vote for Bishop. 29.3% said outsourcing influenced them to Definitely vote Bishop, while 11.3% said outsourcing Somewhat influenced them to vote Bishop. Voter disdain for outsourcing was not unique to Democrats. 15.3% of Republicans said outsourcing Definitely influenced them to vote for Bishop. Another 10.8% said his outsourcing Somewhat influenced them to vote Bishop.
How much, if at all, did Randy Altschuler sending jobs oberseas influence who you voted for? Would you say it made you definitely vote for Tim Bishop, made you somewhat likely to vote for Tim Bishop, made you somewhat likely to vote for Randy Altschuler, made you definitely vote for Randy Altschuler, or made no difference? 45% 40% 35% 30% 29.3% 40.7%

Outsourcing is still the issue that defines Randy Altschuler and his candidacy. Two years after they began, attacks on Altschulers record of outsourcing American jobs to India resonate deeply with voters. Additionally, outsourcing was the issue voters most associated with Altschuler. 16% of all voters, including 10% of Republicans, most associate outsourcing with Randy Altschuler. No other issue polled above 6%.

Favorability
Voters give Randy Altschuler very poor favorability ratings. Only 33% of voters have a favorable opinion of him, while 41% have an unfavorable opinion. Furthermore, 24% of Republicans have an unfavorable opinion of Altschuler, and a mere 52% of Republicans have a favorable opinion. No candidate can win an election with such weak favorable ratings.

Lack of Inter-Party Appeal

Though Altschuler spent the election cycle portraying himself as a moderate, he failed to sway Democrat voters. Only 8.4% of Democrats hold a favorable opinion of Altschuler. 70% have an unfavorable opinion of him. In the election, Altschuler only won 8.4% of Democrat votes. Bishop, meanwhile, won 31.5% of Republican votes. Altschulers attempt to portray himself as a moderate did not win him any more Democrat votes, and likely cost him Republican support.

Conclusion
Randy Altschuler remains unelectable. He has no electoral future in New Yorks First District. His record of outsourcing remains the dominant issue to voters across the political spectrum. He cannot win a significant majority of Republican votes, and has almost no crossover appeal. This poll proves an Altschuler-Bishop matchup in 2014 would have the same result.
