INDUSTRY ACADEMIA MEET IBM PROJECT PRAVIIN

JIMS highlights the need to bridge gap between Industry & Academia At: Jagan Institute of Management Studies, sector-5, Rohini, New Delhi in collaboration with IBM Project Praviin held the Panel Discussion On: New Delhi, December 01, 2012 With global competitiveness raising bars in todays scenario, more than ten million of Indians graduate every year but about 5 million graduates remain jobless. Addressing the urgent need to bridge the gap between the academics and industries Jagan Institute of Management Studies, organized a panel discussion on Meeting the Industry

demand by Academia today. The discussion was meant for MCA students, JIMS to discuss and get clarity on Industry requirements and demands. JIMS in collaboration with IBM Project Praviin organized the discussion where CSuite executives from the industry i.e., Directors, CEOs & CTOs, shared their thoughts on the most vital aspects of the issues in the common interest of all the stakeholders of our educational system. The experts from the industry elaborated on the skills set and what they look for in an employable MCA student. They further discussed on topics like the future of the industry in the next 2-3 years, the trends in the IT industry, how the job scene will be in the next few years and the challenges in employability.

Commenting on the discussion Prof. V.B Aggarwal, Dean, Info-tech, JIMS, who also moderated the discussion forum said, A discussion like this is surely a fruitful way of improving and spreading awareness. The initiative taken by JIMS and IBM Project Praviin fetched the purpose and we now know much more about the needs and wants of the industry. And the need of the hour is to strive hard and work together for the betterment of the educational system of our country and improve the industrial scenario. Mr. Nirmal Singh, Founder and CEO, Wheebox opined that Everything revolves around database. He stated that the thrust in database understanding is a challenging task yet it can be delivered through logical and analytical thinking. He stressed on Domain Knowledge which forms a key aspect at the time of hiring

Mr. Gaurav Mittal, Managing Director, ITCONS e-solutions Pvt Ltd stated that an Amalgamation of behaviourial and technical aspects of skills are important factors at the time of recruiting students Mr. Sushil Chandra, Delivery Manager, TCS, Delhi stated that Not only skills but attitude also counts and also stated that being open with Ideas surmounts creativity. He also stated that both soft skills and IT skills are kept in mind while recruiting a candidate. Mr. Bohitesh Misra, Program manager, MIND Infotech stated that Learning and experimenting with new trends in IT can help in making better prospects for employability. Project Praviin is an innovative program launched under the aegis of IBM Academic Initiative worldwide to partner with colleges and universities in India. This initiative focuses on the betterment of students for a more skilled and competitive IT workforce Overall, the panel discussion created platforms for fruitful discussion and interesting corporate mind-sharing which was benefitting both, for the students and for the JIMS Fraternity.
