Brett Murphy - Media Coordernator
Raised in a wealthy New
Zealand family, Brett didn’t have
much time for God as he pursued
sporting and academic inter-
ests growing up. Accepted into
the New Zealand Broadcasting
School he started a path towards
becoming a journalist that would
see him join Media Works- the
countries biggest private media company including
TV3 and the radio stations the Edge and the Rock.
Having been employed as the sole charge journal-
ist at RadioWorks Waikato in 2003 – that year he was
also named runner up for best student journalist in
New Zealand. Success proved no cure for a battle with
depression and growing frustration with life. But the
invitation of a kind old lady to attend a church service
lead to a dramatic turn of events that would see him
dedicate his life to Jesus Christ, in a move that would
change his life for ever.
Brett is now part of the Avanti team having being
involved in planning two previous crusades after meet-
ing Tony Anthony in 2006. A Bible in Schools teacher
locally in Hamilton he is currently involved with a
number of different mission’s dedicated to building
the kingdom of Jesus Christ.

What a wonderful month we have had. January has
been the perfect start to the new year. On the Friday
night 16th of January, I went out street witnessing at
Manners Mall in Wellington. Stu Millar from “Train to
Proclaim” was leading a team of crazy street evange-
lists from Victory Centre Lower Hutt. It was loads of
great fun. We had some good encounters.
On Sunday the 18th, we preached at Porirua Elim
Christian Centre. Melissa shared her testimony and
did a great Job. I gave my testimony, the gospel mes-
sage and challenged the people to get in the minis-
try. There was a great response, tears of repentance

and people responding to the ministry challenge.
They are a very friendly Church and if you are in the
area on a Sunday, I would recommend you pop in and
enjoy their service.
I have been really challenged by the Apostles and the
fearless way they did things. Just look at Peter in Acts
chapter 2, standing in front of thousands of people,
they would of known who he was. They would of la-
beled him ‘That crazy follower of Jesus!’ But he got up
and preached and 3000 people entered the Kingdom
of God that day! Paul preached in public and before
Kings. Scripture suggests that this was common place
for believers to speak publicly about their faith.
Which leads me to this
question. If the Church
took a bold step and
started making it com-
mon place for Christians
to share their faith in the
public arena, not just
behind the pulpit, what
would happen?

Dennis heads up Avanti Ministries New Zealand as the
Evangelism Coordinator. His role includes Organizing
national evangelistic events, Street Witnessing and
speaking in Churches and Prisons. He has a business
background and a history of running Childrens Events,
speaking at Youth Events & Churches, and other Evan-
gelistic activities . He has a burning desire to see every
Christian in New Zealand able to effectively share their
faith with their neighbours, friends and family.
