In recent years, Hong Kong
has been getting a high
rainfall. Our reservoirs
have stored too much
water. They even need to
get rid of the excess water.

The government always needs to worry about


water shortages. In the 1940s, civil war broke
out in the mainland. Many people fled to
Hong Kong. In the 1960s, the rapid industrial
development increased the demand for water.
The government, in response, had built many
reservoirs. In 1965, it made an agreement
with the Government of Guangdong, which,
since then, has supplied water to Hong Kong.
In 1983, both governments agreed to increase
the amount of water supplied by 3%. The
Hong Kong government also charges us high
water fees.

Our water consumption is
