1. Peter walks with his dog along a straight path ABC.

They walk from A to B at a uniform speed and AB is 120 m long. (a) If their speed is 0.3 m s1, how long do they walk along AB?

(2 marks)

Then Peter and his dog run from B to C at a uniform speed of 1.5 m s1. The distance of BC is 350 m. (b) How long do they run along BC? (1 mark) (c)

0.3 1.5 1 Peter said that his average speed along AC is equal to m s . Comment on 2 his statement. (3 marks)

Then they run back to A form C in 6.5 minutes at a uniform speed. (d) Draw the velocity-time graph of Peter on the following graph paper.

2. An Eurocopter Super Puma AS332 L2 helicopter is sent out to rescue someone in sea. Its motion along horizontal direction is recorded by the velocity-time graph in Figure a.

3. A car is travelling with a uniform velocity of 24 m s1. The driver sees an obstacle 80 m ahead from his current position and applies the brakes to stop the car. The figure below shows the velocity-time graph of the car, starting from the moment when the driver sees the obstacle until the car stops.

(a) (b)

Write down the reaction time of the driver. Find (i) the thinking distance and (ii) the braking distance of the car. Would the car hit the obstacle? Explain briefly.

(c) (d)

(5 marks) Find the deceleration of the car after the brakes are applied. (2 marks) 1 If the car is travelling at 20 m s , find the new braking distance. Assume that the reaction time of the driver and the deceleration of the car remains unchanged.(2 marks)
