Must possess a valid Crane Operator license issued by the Commissioner for Workplace Safety and Health.

Ensure that the crane has a valid Certificate of Test and Examination issued by an Authorised Examiner.

Refer to the load chart and identify the safe working load of the crane. Be familiar with the crane operations and its controls.

Ensure that a Lifting Plan has been established for the load and the entire lifting team has been briefed on the plan.

Conduct operational tests on all limiting and indicating devices under no load condition at the start of every shift. Record the test results in a log book/ sheet.

Ensure that a Permit-To-Work (PTW) has been issued before the start of any lifting operation.

Ensure that the ground condition has been assessed safe for crane travel and lifting before starting any operation. Report any unsafe ground conditions to your Lifting Supervisor.

Ensure that the outriggers are set up on a firm and levelled ground. Fully extend all the outriggers and secure the jacks on the base plates.

Hoist a load after a clear signal is given from the Signalman.

Do not use the crane to pull or drag any load.

Conduct all lifting operations within the designated area or cordoned off road.

Identify the weight of the load and ensure it is within the safe working load of the crane before hoisting.

Avoid any sudden movement such as jerking or stopping the crane abruptly.

Perform all lifting operations at least 3 metres away from overhead power lines.

Do not leave the crane unattended while a load is suspended in mid-air.

Do not operate cranes in severe weather conditions such as rain, strong winds and under poor lighting conditions.

Keep a regularly updated maintenance and operation log book/ sheet.

Do not conduct any lifting operation if the path of operation is obstructed.

Report any failure or malfunction of the crane to the Lifting Supervisor and record it in the log book/ sheet.

Ensure that any stationary truck mounted or wheel mounted crane is adequately and securely blocked while it is on a slope.
