Which is great, which is elevating, And blesses one with four types of wealth. Gowri vinayakopetham, pancha vakthram trinethrakam, Shivam dyathwa dasa bhujam Shiva Rakshaam paden nara. 2 After meditating on Lord Shiva, Who has five necks and three eyes, And who is accompanied by Parvathi and Ganesa, Men should read the protection of Lord Shiva. Gangadhara sira pathu, Phalam ardendu shekara, Nayane madana dwamsi, karnou sarpa vibhooshana. 3 Let he who carries Ganga protect my head, Let he who keeps the crescent of moon protect my forehead, Let the killer of Cupid protect my eyes, Let he who wears Snakes as ornament protect my ears. Granam pathu purar aathi, mukham pathu jagath pathi, Jihwam vaggeswara pathu, kandharam shiva kandhara. 4 Let my nose me protected by the destroyer of puras(cities), Let my face be protected by Lord of Universe. Let my toungue be protected by the Lord of words, And let my neck be protected by Shiva who lives in caves.

Sri Kanda pathu may kandam, skandhou viswa durandhara, Bhujow bhoo bhara samhartha, karou pathu pinaka dhruk. 5 Let my throat be protected by the God with a blessed throat, Let my shoulders be protected by, he who removes ills of the world, Let my arms be protected by he who lessens the burden of earth, And let he who holds Pinaka bow protect my hands. Let my calves be protected by the creator of the world, Lat my ankles be protected by leader of Ganas, Let my feet be protected by ocean of mercy, And let all my body parts be protected by Sada Shiva. Yetham shiva balo petham, raksam ya sukruthee padeth, Sa bhukthwa sakalan kaamaan, shiva sayujyamapnuyath, Graha bhootha pisachadhya, trilokyepi charanthi ye, Dhoorad aasu palayanthe Shiva namabhi rakshanath. 9 That blessed one who reads this protection, Which is blessed with power of Lord Shiva, Would get all his desires fulfilled, Attain nearness to Lord Shiva after death, And planets, ghosts and ghouls, Which travel in any of the three worlds, Would run immediately, far, far away, Due to the protection given by names of Shiva. Abhayam kara namedham kavacham Parvathi pathe, Bhakthya bibarthee ya kande, thasya vasyam jagat thrayam, Imam Narayana swapne Shiva Raksham yadha disath, Prathar uthaya yogeendro, Yagna valya sthadha likath. 10

This armour of the names of the consort of Parvathi, Would remove fears and provide protection, To the devotees who sing these often, And the lord of the three worlds would be within his hold, For this protection of Lord Shiva was revealed, By Lord Vishnu in the dream to Yagna Valkya, Who wrote it, as he was told, as soon as he woke up in the morning.

Mandaakinii-Salila-Candana-Carcitaaya Nandi-Iishvara-Pramatha-Naatha-Mahe[a-Ii]shvaraaya | Mandaara-Pusspa-Bahu-Pusspa-Su-Puujitaaya Tasmai Makaaraaya Namah Shivaaya ||2||

Meaning: 2.1: (Salutations to Him) Who is Worshipped with Water from the River Mandakini and Smeared with Sandal Paste, 2.2: Who is the Lord of Nandi and of the Ghosts and Goblins, the Great Lord, 2.3: Who is Worshipped with Mandara and Many Other Flowers, 2.4: Salutations to that Shiva, Who is represented by syllable "Ma", The second syllable of the Panchakshara mantra "Na-Ma-Shi-Va-Ya".

Shivaaya Gaurii-Vadana-Abja-Baala-Suuryaaya Dakssa-Adhvara-Naashakaaya | Shrii-Niilakanntthaaya Vrssa-Dhvajaaya Tasmai Shikaaraaya Namah Shivaaya ||3|| Meaning: 3.1: (Salutations to Him) Who is Auspicious and Who is like the Newly Risen Sun Causing the Lotus-Face of Gauri(Devi Parvati) to Blossom, 3.2: Who is the Destroyer of the Sacrifice (Yajna) of Daksha, 3.3: Who has a Blue Throat and has a Bull as His Emblem, 3.4: Salutations to that Shiva, Who is represented by syllable "Shi", The third syllable of the Panchakshara mantra "Na-Ma-Shi-Va-Ya".

Vashissttha-Kumbhodbhava-Gautama-Aarya-Muuni-Indra-DevaAarcita-Shekharaaya | Candra-Aarka-Vaishvaanara-Locanaaya Tasmai Vakaaraaya Namah Shivaaya ||4|| Meaning: 4.1: (Salutations to Him) Who is Worshipped by the Best and most Respected Sages like Vashistha, Agastya andGautama and also by the Gods and Who is the Crown of the Universe, 4.2: (Salutations to Him) Who has the Chandra (Moon), Surya (Sun) and Agni (Fire) as His Three Eyes, 4.3: Salutations to that Shiva, Who is represented by syllable "Va", The fourth syllable of the Panchakshara mantra "Na-Ma-Shi-Va-Ya".

Yajnya-Svaruupaaya Jattaa-Dharaaya Pinaaka-Hastaaya Sanaatanaaya | Divyaaya Devaaya Dig-Ambaraaya Tasmai Yakaaraaya Namah Shivaaya ||5|| Meaning: 5.1: (Salutations to Him) Who is the Embodiment of Yajna (Sacrifice) and Who has Matted Hairs, 5.2: Who has the Trident in His Hand and Who is Eternal, 5.3: Who is Divine, Who is the Shining One and Who has the Four Directions as His Clothes (signifying that He is ever Free), 5.4: Salutations to that Shiva, Who is represented by syllable "Ya", The fifth syllable of the Panchakshara mantra "Na-Ma-Shi-Va-Ya".

Pan.caakssaram-Idam Punnyam Yah Patthe-Shiva-Samnidhau | Shivalokam-Aavaapnoti Shivena Saha Modate ||6|| Meaning: 6.1: Whoever Recites this Panchakshara (hymn in praise of the five syllables of Na-Ma-Shi-Va-Ya) near Shiva (Lingam), 6.2: Will Attain the Abode of Shiva and enjoy His Bliss.
