Issued by: John Ball, Madison County Undersheriff COMPLIANCE CHECKS YIELD FIVE ARRESTS (Wampsville, NY) - Madison County Sheriffs Deputies concluded a two week wave of retail establishment alcohol compliance checks on December 13th. The compliance teams consisted of undercover Sheriffs Deputies working with a confidential, undercover police informant. The effort was made possible through funding under a grant obtained by BRIDGES Madison County Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse, supporting the Drug Free Communities Support Program Madison Countys Promise The Alliance for Youth, from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. The following establishments were found to be operating in full compliance: Kinney Drugs McKinnon Liquor Red Apple Rite Aid Extra-Mart Tops Market Predomores Sunoco Valero Big M Market A and W Easy Mart Valero Price Chopper A and W Easy Mart Kinney Drugs Village Liquor/Wine Hamilton Liquor Sunoco Hamilton Eatery Hubbardsville Store Byrne Dairy Klings Store

The following businesses were not in compliance and the respective clerks were each charged with one count of Prohibited Sale of Alcohol, a Class A Misdemeanor under the NYS Alcoholic Beverage Control Law: DJs Market - New Woodstock charged was Brittany A. Moseley, 28, of Cazenovia Barbanos Liquor - City of Oneida charged was Kelly A. Becker, 51, of Durhamville, N.Y. DeRuyter Big M - Village of DeRuyter charged was Susan M. Braungart, 53, of DeRuyter, N.Y. Waynes Market - Village of Hamilton charged was Kathy L. Eager, 48, of Hamilton, N.Y. Big M - Village of Morrisville charged was Kendra L. DiVeronica, 21, of Georgetown, N.Y. Madison County Sheriff Allen Riley noted that its obvious that the vast majority of establishments are operating in full compliance of New York State laws as it applies to the sale of alcoholic beverages, which includes visual verification of the customers identification. Riley went on to say prohibiting the sale of alcohol to those under 21 is taken very seriously throughout the year, especially during the holiday season. This is the latest effort in the Sheriffs Office continuing multi-phase initiative involving enforcement of underage drinking laws, combating driving while intoxicated or ability impaired, and distracted driving.
