This will be my last state house newsletter as your State Representative. I cannot tell you what a privilege is has been to represent the people of the 20th District. I have so loved getting to know the people of the 20th District and the issues that were important to you. One of the legislative accomplishments came from the advocacy of Gahanna resident Sharon Montgomery. And, because of her efforts, and the efforts of many others, we now have a law that prohibits texting while driving and prohibits people under 18 from using electronic devices while driving. Ohio citizens and roads will be safer because of these efforts. Another issue that was brought to me by a constituent, New Albany resident Bob Thurman, was ensuring coverage of prosthetics by health insurance. And, even though we were not able to pass this legislation, we brought attention to this matter. Parents of children with autism advocated for insurance coverage for individuals with autism, and even though this legislation had not passed as of the writing of this newsletter, it hopefully will be enacted before I leave office. It is critical that we help families and children with this ever increasing condition. We were able to pass legislation that enabled Clark Hall to be built as a public-private partnership which has become a model for other communities. The Franklin Park Conservatory benefitted from a provision that we were able to have included in legislation that allowed the Conservatory to issue bonds that they had not been able to do previously to fund capital projects. But besides the people of the 20th District, it has been an honor to work with and for the elected and appointed officials in Bexley, Gahanna, New Albany, Whitehall, Columbus, Blendon and Mifflin Townships. The mayors, city council persons, superintendents, school board members, township trustees, and city staff have been wonderful work with and I will truly miss working with these dedicated individuals. And, while we have accomplished much, there is much more we need to do to make this state be the best that is can be. Heather Bishof will be representing the new 20th District and will represent some of you. Representative Stinziano will represent those who live in Bexley. I still marvel that a farm girl from Washington Court House was elected to Ohio House of Representatives and I will cherish this experience and hope that you feel that I have represented you well.
