MMSU JPIA renews membership in the National Federation of Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants
As one of the active and noted local chapters nationwide, the JPIA-MMSU Chapter renewed its membership to the National Federation of Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants. The NFJPIA serves as the umbrella organization unifying all local chapters in the country. Hence, MMSU-JPIA also had the opportunity to be exposed in national activities be acquainted and involved in the several activities sponsored by CPA review centers, the NFJPIA itself, PICPAns, and other members of the accountancy profession.
MMSU JPIA renews membership in the National Federation of Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (Region I and CAR Council)
NFJPIA Region I and CAR Council serves as an intermediary of the local chapters to the National Federation of Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants. Hence, it collectively pursues goals and unifies the local chapters stretching from the province of Ilocos Norte, passing through Pangasinan to the Cordillera Administrative Region. MMSU-JPIA chapter has also gained a favorable reputation to the regional council in bagging several awards and citations in the past council years. This year, it continues its legacy by renewing its membership to the NFJPIA, Region I and CAR Council.

To strengthen and attain global competence, JPIA also opened its doors in the fast-paced information age through the Social Network giant facebook.com. It was able to unify its present members of and send updates to CPAs already absorbed by the corporate world. This links JPIA and its regional and national counterparts as a means of disseminating news and other useful information.
Spearheaded by the National Federation of Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants and implemented by the Regional Councils, MMSU JPIA also worked hand in hand with other connected agencies in enhancing efforts to protect and preserve our natural resources. A series of year-round tree planting activities were engaged in by the local chapter in support to NFJPIA and to promote ecological awareness.
In support to the growing concern for the Mother Earth, JPIA also launched its own version of protecting the environment. The trash-to-cash project mobilized its over 300 members to collect plastic bottles and other non-biodegradable materials everyday to eventually collect a bottle-bank. These are disposed-off through a sale to the junk shop at the end of the month.

While sophomore accountancy students almost burn all of their eyelashes for the 3 Financial Accounting subjects (the hardest retention stage running for 2 semesters), Junior JPIAns share some practical and useful techniques to grasp the lessons easily. The tutorial also becomes a review on the part of junior JPIAns for the auditing subjects for their fourth year. It runs for the whole year and the project practically aims to deepen the understanding of the subject in preparation for the CPA Licensure Exams.
It has long been a concern to sanitize and systematize (the two S in 5S), some school files to facilitate learning in the college. JPIA was also one of the active academic organizations who took part in the series of 5S days in the College of Business, Economics and Accountancy. Not only did JPIA support sanitation but also systematization of important files in the guidance office.
During Monday mornings, the College of Business, Economics and Accountancy conducts its Flag ceremony as a jumpstart to the week. JPIA was one of the organizations who took turns in leading and sponsoring the flag ceremony.
As one of the academic organizations of the College, JPIA, represented by the local chapter head, Mr. Mc Jayson P. Pascua, was also enthusiastic to work with the student council together with the other academic organizations. Dynamism and innovation were the two primary characters JPIA displayed in working with the Association of Academic Organizations of CBEA, in its role as the think tank in the several activities spearheaded by the college and the Student Council.
JPIA was also enthusiastic in contributing to a better CBEA by actively participating in the affairs and meetings of the General Assembly, the highest policy making body of the college. It involved JPIAs managerial skills and expertise in dealing with people in organizations. They also displayed vigor and persuasion in their quest to legislate effective policies throughout the college.
In the academe, especially in CBEA, the implementation of the rules on the proper dress codes including the college uniform has long been a dilemma. Hence, the SC tapped the academic organizations as its implementing arms in ensuring that the promulgated rules on wearing uniforms were strictly followed. JPIA was straightforward in imposing the rules on wearing the college uniform for the whole year.
JPIA also acknowledged the outmost pride of its members to belong to the accountancy program in the university. The officers, with the guidance from the faculty members of the accountancy department boosted the JPIAn pride through standardizing a shirt to be worn as the official org-shirt for AY 2011-2012. It was a reminder for most JPIAns of some things they can be thankful of, apart from the pride of belonging in the accountancy program.
JPIA also standardized the lanyard of its members to further boost the JPIAn pride. It didnt only further unify the organization but has provided some funds for the start of other more beneficial programs and projects aimed at helping the its members and the college.
In making important announcements and making updates for the members, JPIA also embarked on making use of its bulletin board in front of the accountancy department. Several sections take turns in decorating and updating its contents to suit into seasons and other timely activities.
In preparing accounting reports and studying transactions, accountants and bookkeepers make use of the working paper, otherwise known as the worksheet. It is sold at a very high markup in the office supplies shops outside the school, which added burden to students taking up basic accounting. To properly address the problem, JPIA purchased pads of worksheets at a wholesale price to sell it at a lower markup through the help of the faculty members holding classes in basic accounting and even higher accounting subjects.
The website of NFJPIA serves as a collective blog-anddirectory page where one can access to important news regarding the NFJPIA and it regional chapters. Apart from these, it also holds a good number of articles portraying different team building activities of local chapters throughout the Philippines, one of which is the MMSU JPIA. As the school year comes to an end, it regularly sends articles to NFJPIA who was in charge of uploading the write-ups.

While the organization pursues academic goals to attain global competence, it also sympathizes with its members who went through letting go of some close relatives and family members. As an expression of deep empathy and condolence, JPIA helps the bereaved family through a mutual aid.
The most critical stage of a CPA dream comes not in the retention policy but in the Board Exam. Hence, JPIA strengthens its pillars and further creates camaraderie through expressing their outmost support to the CPA reviewees through a souvenir bag with the print tatak MMSU JPIA.
The executive board meeting is a council composed of all local chapter presidents, herein referred to as LC heads of all the member schools of the Region I and CAR Council. MMSU JPIAs LC Head, Mc Jayson Pascua, attended the 3rd Executive Board meeting to discuss some pressing concerns regarding the Regional Council.
MMSU JPIA, together with accountancy students from the Northwestern University and the Divine Word College of Laoag joined the accountancy week celebration spearheaded by the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) Ilocos Norte and Loag City Chapter in Carasi, Ilocos Norte.
During the Accountancy Week Celebration at Carasi, the Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants, MMSU Chapter joined the Poster Making Contest. It was participated in by other local chapters all over Ilocos and Laoag City.

MMSU JPIA, together with accountancy students from the Northwestern University and the Divine Word College of Laoag participated in the tree planting activity sponsored by the PICPA Ilocos Norte-Laoag Chapter. Other faculty members and members of the PICPA including the Municipal Accountant of Carasi, Ilocos Norte, planted a quota of 15 trees per participant.
Leadership and camaraderie: Hand in hand towards betterment and excellence was the theme during the JPIA Accountancy Week Celebration sponsored by the MMSU JPIA Chapter. The activity aimed to jumpstart the school year through developing camaraderie and leadership between and among MMSU JPIAns.
During the MMSU JPIA Accountancy Week Celebration, several students joined and actively participated in the Quiz Bowl. The team members were randomly selected to comprise of four members, each coming from first, second, third and fourth years. Topics covered were intermediate, basic accounting, and board exam subjects.
During the MMSU JPIA Accountancy Week Celebration, several students also displayed non-academic skills and talents, one of which is singing. This is geared towards the goal of MMSU JPIA to mold a whole package professional who excels not only in his academic but also non-academic undertakings.
Anent to developing singers, JPIA also sought to discover dancers among its members. Hence, during the accountancy week celebration, JPIAns were teamed into 7 dance groups to hit and set the dance floor on fire. The contest was spearheaded to select dancers to compete in the Regional Midyear Convention of the NFJPIA, Region I and CAR Council.
Still, during the JPIA Accountancy Week Celebration, accountancy students also formed choirs to display their hidden talents and eventually enhance them. The activity is aimed to further develop camaraderie and synchronization through music and the performing arts.
To develop leadership and teamwork, JPIAns were grouped to compete through the classic amazing race. Several stations were built with corresponding challenges to group members. Hence, the activity developed teamwork and decision making in situations under time pressure.
Pursuant to the program of the NFJPIA, Region I and CAR Council, MMSU JPIA also launched the trash-to-cash program. It aims to involve the over 300 members of the Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants in measures and activities in protecting and preserving Mother Nature.
JPIA also launched its Peer Tutorial program to help the sophomore students in their Financial Accounting subjects. The program created groups of tutors (juniors) and tutees (sophomores) to review and discuss topics regarding board subjects, and help the sophomores pass the screening during the second year.
During July 31 to August 1, the National Federation of Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants, Region I and CAR Council held its annual Leaders Assembly to train JPIAns from all over the Ilocos Provinces, Pangasinan and the Cordillera Administrative Region. JPIA sent 4 delegates, namely Randell Dan Dalire, Kim Lester Valdez, Eidan Rivera, and Rosario Albano III.
In meeting new friends and getting participants to be acquainted with each other, the Regional Federation of JPIA grouped the delegates into competing teams in the classic amazing race. The MMSU JPIAns were able to meet new friends and get acquainted with other JPIAns throughout the local chapters of the Region I and CAR Council.
During the second day of the Leaders Assembly, Randell Dan Dalire and Kim Lester Valdez belonged to two competing teams for the trivia quiz. It included non-accounting subjects such as general knowledge and current events.
The first night of the Leaders Assembly gathered executive officers from the different local chapters to present their annual agenda and program of activities. MMSU JPIA presented its year-long plan and updated the Regional Council of its accomplishments and activities undertaken from the start of the academic year to the date of the Leaders Assembly.
Newly elected officers of the MMSU JPIA, together with the officers of academic organizations and the college student council were sworn to office by Dr. Marilou P. Lucas, the Dean of the College of Business, Economics and Accountancy.
JPIANs also attended the Leadership Camp in Currimao. It was participated in by other students all over the college. The activity aimed to acquaint student leaders and familiarize them in methodologies in managing student organizations.
During the Leadership Camp, JPIAns joined the group in the coastal cleanup conducted in Currimao in connection with the Leadership Camp. They picked up rubbish scattered along the shore.
One of the activities geared towards making student leaders acquainted with each other is the Hataw Sayaw participated in by several delegates in the Leadership Camp. It was an dance showdown activity wherein delegates were encouraged to express themselves through dancing.

To develop nonacademic skills of the delegates during the Leadership Camp, student leaders also battled in the Leaders Got Talent. It was an activity parallel to the Pilipinas got talent wherein participants are granted the freedom to showcase their talents, impress judges and spectators and win the contest.
Of the technical sessions conducted during the Leaderhip Camp, one of the most important was th e seminar on Achieving Leadership through P.E.O.P.L.E. Mr. Richard Collado served as the lecturer.
Other important seminars conducted during the Leadership camp was the seminar on conducting effective meetings. It aimed to equip students with adequate knowledge in the basics and even the technicalities during the meeting, otherwise known as the Parliamentary Procedures.

JPIA also joined the Civil Service Commission in celebrating the Civil Service Anniversary. There was a technical session during the celebration attended in by the fourth year BS in Accountancy students. JPIA supports the CSC in its quest to promote responsible service in the government and other agencies manned by the Republic of the Philippines.
The Students in Free Enterprise or SIFE is a nonprofit organization which involves students in volunteer works for the less privileged members of the society. JPIA also sent its members in the National SIFE Competition in Dusit Thani Hotel, Makati City, Philippines.
Winning a slot in the National SIFE Competition, JPIAns were also sent to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia as members of the Philippine delegation to the International SIFE Competition. It was participated in by several SIFErs all around the world.

JPIAns also participated in the Unviersity Statistics Quiz sponsored by the Mathematics Department of the College of Arts and Sciences. Eidan Cesar Rivera (BS Accountancy I) and Christian Jay dela Cruz (BS Accountancy III) joined the competition.
Winning a slot in the University Statistics Quiz, Christian Jay dela Cruz also joined the Provincial Statistics Quiz sponsored by the Province of Ilocos Norte. It was attended by contestants from other municipalities all over Ilocos Norte.
MMSU JPIA also sent delegates during the Regional Midyear Convention in Baguio City sponsored by the National Federation of Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants, Region I and CAR Council. The Midyear convention seeks to choose participants and representatives of the Region I and CAR in the National Midyear Convention.
Included in the activities during the Midyear Convention was the CAT Cup I, a quiz bee covering basic accounting and the whole scope of Financial Accounting. It was participated in by Kim Lester Valdez, Karmela Marquez, Kyle Zmelic Castueras, Revianne Doroni, and Mark Christian Rasalan.

Included in the activities during the Midyear Convention was the CAT Cup III, a quiz bee covering selected board exam subjects. It was participated in by several fourth year students.
Included in the activities during the Midyear Convention was the Ismael Cup covering the CPA Board Subjects, namely Theory of Accounts, Auditing Theory, Auditing Problems, Practical Accounting I, Practical Accounting II, Business Law and Taxation, and Management Advisory Services. It was participated in by several fourth year students. The quiz was sponsored by the Ismael CPA Review Center.
Included in the activities during the Midyear Convention was the SGV Cup covering the CPA Board Subjects, namely Theory of Accounts, Auditing Theory, Auditing Problems, Practical Accounting I, Practical Accounting II, Business Law and Taxation, and Management Advisory Services.. It was participated in by several fourth year students. The quiz was sponsored by the Sycip Gores and Velayo Auditing Firm otherwise known as SGV.
Included in the activities during the Midyear Convention was the Meet The Standards covering the theory part of CPA Board Subjects, namely Theory of Accounts, Auditing Theory, Auditing Problems, Practical Accounting I, Practical Accounting II, Business Law and Taxation, and Management Advisory Services. It was participated in by several fourth year students.
Mr. Mc Jayson Pascua, the Local Chapter Head of MMSU JPIA also participated in the Presidents Cup. The quiz covered the several CPA Board subjects, namely Theory of Accounts, Auditing Theory, Auditing Problems, Practical Accounting I, Practical Accounting II, Business Law and Taxation, and Management Advisory Services.
JPIA participates in the Search for Mr. and Ms. Ambassador of Goodwill*
JPIA also participated in the Search for Mr. and Ms. Ambassador of Goodwill, the pageant aimed to search for the gorgeous and charming lady and gentleman who will represent RFJPIA in the National Convention. Ricci Krizanne Benemerito and Elmaerwin Sibucao represented MMSU JPIA in the said Search.
During the Regional Midyear Convention, MMSU JPIA also sent its representatives to showcase their God-given talents. JPIAns got talent followed the rationale of the Pilipinas got Talent. The contest was also well participated in by JPIAns from all participating local chapters all over Region I and the Cordillera Administrative Region.
Prior to the RMYC (Regional Midyear Convention), RFJPIA also launched the Online Photo Contest which was participated in by MMSU JPIA. It was a competition requiring participants to upload their contest photos in facebook.com. The number of likes will determine the winner.
During the RMYC, JPIA also participated in the ComicStar, the Comedy Show Contest which requires 2 stand comedians to entertain and make the audience laugh out loud with their own techniques. Emil James Tanagon and Jose Miguel Agonoy were MMSU JPIAs representatives.

During the RMYC, JPIA also participated in the technical Session on accounting updates. The seminar included topics on the revisions of accounting standards and pointers in the newly introduced accounting standards regarding the board exam.
JPIA also participated in the Search for Mr. and Ms. CBEA 2011 in preparation for the Mr. and Ms. University 2011. The org has chosen its representatives to battle with other contenders from the different academic organizations in the college.
Pursuant to the macro program of the university to rehabilitate and promote ecological awareness, the Central Student Council sponsored the university-wide tree planting. JPIA was an active participant during the said event.
During the RMYC, JPIA also participated in the ComicStar, the Comedy Show Contest which requires 2 stand comedians to entertain and make the audience laugh out loud with their own techniques. Emil James Tanagon and Jose Miguel Agonoy were MMSU JPIAs representatives.
For the whole year, JPIAns also participated in the several activities spearheaded by the Kapisanan ng mga Mag-aaral ng Filipino at Literatura, an academic organization based in the College of Arts and Sciences. It included activities promoting awareness and passion for the Filipino language.
Ricci Krizanne Benemerito and Elmaerwin Sibucao, Mr. and Ms. Ambassador of Goodwill of MMSU JPIA led the outreach program for the underprivileged children in Batac. Activities included feeding program, games and dialogues with the kids.
JPIA also sent its statistics genius, Eidan Cesar Rivera, a first year accountancy student in the Regional Statistics Quiz. It was participated in by other provinces in Region I.
Having winners in the Regional Midyear Convention, MMSU JPIA also sent its participants in the National Midyear Convention in Boracay last November. Kim Lester Valdez, Ricci Krizanne Benemerito, Mc Jayson Pascua and Mr. Mark Daryll Abuy joined the Region I and CAR delegation.
During the National Midyear Convention in Davao, JPIAns also participated in the Amazing Race. It was a group competition wherein participants need to accomplish tasks in several stations and arrive at the final location ahead of other groups.

During the National Midyear Convention, Ricci Krizanne Benemerito, the Ms. Ambassador of Goodwill in Region I and CAR competed with other contestants for the National title. Other contenders came from the different regional councils all over the Philippines.
The members of the Region I and CAR delegation in the National Midyear Convention also joined in the NFJPIA Got Talent. The activity was geared towards showcasing the nonacademic talents of accountancy students all over the Philippines.

Eidan Cesar Rivera, a first year accountancy student competed with other national statistics quizzers during the National Statistics Quiz. He was accompanied by Ms. Emily P. Tanagon, chairman of the Mathematics Department and other staff from the College of Arts and Sciences.

JPIA also participated in the 34th Foundation Anniversary Celebration of the Mariano Marcos State University. The activity was aimed at involving more resources at hitting the vision of the University to be a Premier University in Southeast Asia by 2015 by internationalizing its degree programs.

Still parallel to promoting ecological awareness, JPIA, through its trash to cash program supported the Pastik ni Juan program of Eat Bulaga by giving its collected plastic bottles to the foundation.
