I NSI D E RIG H T
CAPTAIN SHOUTS FORE!
Well, my year is done and it has worked out very well. The Gold Cup at Randpark was a close run thing, but I cant remember a year when we have not been rained off in at least one game. Despite the half an hour storm delay, we all still managed to nish, which completes a full house for the year and my congratulations go to Johan Van Wyk and George Williams for winning the Gary Player Knock Out. However, you have to have sympathy with Eugene Marx, whos company would not give him time off from their year-end conference function to play, so he could only join partner Derek Hughes 3 holes into the game, and imagine how ustered they both were by then! accepted that SAB had agreed to sponsor the beer at the prize-giving and put it on anyway. Thank you for your trust. Spero introduced his new committee after prize-giving and I wish the new boys, Stewart Vernon, Mossie, Shaun Ledden and Eugene Marx much enjoyment during your time on the committee and on his behalf I think the old stalwarts for once again agreeing to assist. I always say to new Nomads, the more you get involved, the more you will enjoy it. Being on the committee gives you an insight into the huge amount of work that goes on behind the scenes and being part of that makes your involvement with Nomads so much more enjoyable. If you dont Gerrit Niewhoudt from SAB had to cry believe me, volunteer for the AMEF off sick the evening before and so did committee, or the main committee not attend and the knock on effect was next year! that the Breweries Girls were also AWOL, having supposed to be there at It has been an honour and a pleasure the 6th tee and at the end. However, our being your Captain for the last year. For thanks go to Randpark Club, who me the highlight, and a truly humbling experience, was to play with two 500 game badgers, Ken Blake (in January) and Alec Saunders (in August) as well as a 50 year member (Dorian Wharton Hood, in February), who I think is the rst 50 year member to play in his anniversary game. By denition, you are all members of a select few and I thank you for your continued commitment to Nomads. It is this commitment to a cause that makes Nomads such a wonderful organisation. The rst game of the new year is at Bryanston, a week later than last year, on Wednesday the 16th January, when you will all hopefully be sober again after the New Year. I look forward to seeing you as a has-been. (Me, not all of you!) Thank you all for a wonderful year and I, once again, wish Spero as much enjoyment as I have had and an even more successful golng year. (He won the GP Plate this year, so its a big act to follow!)
