Master Gardening Classes to be offered by Sac County Extension Master Gardeners are members of the local community who

take an active interest in growing flowers, vegetables, fruits, shrubs, trees and lawns. What really sets them apart from other home gardeners is their commitment to learning and sharing what they learn with others. Master Gardener trainees attend 40 hours of classes taught by Iowa State University Extension staff and specialists in topics ranging from lawn care, flower and vegetable gardening, ornamental trees and shrubs, fruit crops, and houseplants to insect, disease, and weed control, soil and plant nutrition, and pesticide safety. In exchange for training, participants are asked to volunteer 40 hours of service to their local extension program. The service opportunities are wide-ranging. To register for the next Master Gardener class, please fill out the attached forms and return to the Sac County Extension Office, 620 Park Ave, Sac City, IA 50583 by January 4, 2013. (Registrations after the 4th will have an additional $25 fee added.) Please include your registration fee of $150 per registration made payable to ISU Extension. The webcasts will then start promptly at 6:30 pm and run until 9:30 pm with a short break about half way through the class. If you have any questions at all, please contact the Sac County Extension Office at 712/662-7131. The program provides selected volunteers training on many aspects of gardening. In exchange for training, Master Gardeners share their time and knowledge on approved projects within their local communities. Training consists of 40 hours of Web-based broadcasting and face-to-face instructions at extension offices and on the ISU campus. After training, participants must complete a one-year Master Gardener internship consisting of 40 hours of volunteer service. Additional volunteer hours and ongoing training are required in subsequent years to maintain the Master Gardener status.
