1. Behavioral Objective: The students will demonstrate understanding of knowledge of history of western music through a presentation. The students will also understand the relationship between history and culture. 2. Required Prior Knowledge and Skills: The students must already have learned the basic history of western music and understand the different characteristics that represents the first four music era (Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical) in music history. 3. Processes:

Creating Performing Listening 5. Assessment: Formal Give feedback on each groups presentation and creativity. Be mindful of the cooperation between the students in their respective groups. Informal Observe if the students understand the information given by other students and offer assistance when needed. 6. Materials, Repertoire, Equipment needed: Projector, sound system, computer, PowerPoint, pieces from Renaissance, Baroque, Classical. 7. Accommodations/Special Needs: none 8. Lesson Sequence: 1. Discuss about inspirational figures throughout the history of western music. - The teacher will start the lesson with the PowerPoint presentation as the background, and ask the students for their thoughts or interpretation of inspirational figures. - The teacher then will ask the students for their personal inspirational figures and discuss what are their characteristics and similarities and how do they relate to history of western music. 5 minutes 2. Review on the previous lessons about history of western music. - The teacher will begin the presentation and do a review on the previous lessons, where they have already discussed about different musical eras by walking through the slides. 10 minutes 3. Assign the mini project to the students and elaborate the contents needed for the presentation. Give suggestions about the topic. - When the slides are finished, the teacher will give out the mini project to the class. - The teacher will elaborate the details of the mini project, such as the time limit, the presentation format, where the students can choose to use PowerPoint, small music recital, singing or whiteboard. - The students should have reviewed and have an idea about the format and contents of the presentation. 10 minutes 4. Assign groups/pairs and discuss the theme to represent their group. For instance, composer, conductor, influential musician of the era, favorite musician and etc. - The teacher will assign the students into groups or pairs and let each group decide their own theme. The teacher may suggest a few selections and the

groups may choose from the examples. - After assigning the groups, the group members will gather together and discuss how will they present their topic. 10 minutes 5. Give an overview about the mini project and have the presentation start the week after. - The teacher will give some secondary resources for the students reference for their presentation and give an overview about the mini project. 5 minutes Assignments: The mini-project that the students are presenting in the following week. The theme for each group is decided based on their preference. 9. Evaluation/Diagnosis/Remediation: Give additional information and assistance when the students are presenting. Be ready for students questions and have the groups to write a reflection after the presentation.
