Gandhi meant khadi to be a public statement of commonality with all other Indians; it obliterated the distinctions of wealth, status,

power, and faith that fabric, cut, and even colour signified. the village and not the city would be the unit of production; the charkha plied by villagers and not the city mills would be the means of production; labour and not capital would be the foundation of the process of production; people and not the government and its allies would be the new agents of transformation. While Jinnah claimed guardianship over all Muslims in India under the banner of the Muslim League, he ultimately found it difficult to countenance the partitioning of Bengal and Punjab by his own logic. Nor did he have any answer about what to do with the large number of Muslims who would remain in an independent India. This led to the Leagues hostage theory that made minorities in each country hostage to fair treatment of minorities in the other. The Coupland Plan that called for a Christian Crown Colony in northeastern India. Most disgraceful of all was Mountbattens wilfully keeping back the configuration of the Radcliffe Line for three days until after the Independence celebrations. This prevented meaningful deployment of the Boundary Force, as urgently demanded by the Punjab and U.P Governors, which could have saved countless lives. Qualities of Mahatma: Mahatma, the soul force of the movement with his seemingly quirky ethical values that put right means, non-violence and peaceful struggle above ends. He spread non-violence as a creed. His preaching are the ideal mode for building a liberal global order. Importance of non-violence by Gandhi Gandhis non-violence was premised on refusing to treat life as an absolute value. This was so central to timelessness in Indian idioms on life-and-death cycle. As long as preservation of life remained the basis for all political action, he said, it could never address high moral principles. Only by giving up the thirst for life, the epitome of which was represented by modern war, could the urge to kill be tamed and nonviolence evolve as a way of life. Devji calls Gandhi a philosophical anarchist who not only disconnects sovereignty from the state, but also believes that the willingness to suffer empowers the weakest of the weak by making him the master of his choices. So, instead of human rights which are to be protected by the State violence he talks of basic duties that make every man his own sovereign. As early as in his 1909 manifesto Hind Swaraj, Gandhi contends how freedom and thus sovereignty were immediately available to anyone fearless enough to accept suffering by withdrawing cooperation from an unjust order. Gandhi was pained to see how the use of violence in defeating Nazism had resulted in the creation of greater violence i.e. the atomic bomb. It [non-violence] is the only thing that atomic bomb cannot destroy.--- Gandhi Gandhi saw a sure possibility to subordinate politics to morality thus spiritualising politics. All these made Mahatma as the greatest political thinker of our times.
