Overview: The APOA Member Survey was submitted through an online interface and consisted of 4 primary subjects; Membership Satisfaction, Job Satisfaction, Administrative Support, Community & Media Relations. The primary objective of the survey was to gain insight into the members opinions, concerns and perceptions of each area. The results of the survey will be used to positively address those concerns through negotiations, communications, and relationship building activities. Below are highlights of each section of the survey. Detailed results are also included. Membership Satisfaction: APOA membership is very important or moderately important to over 80% of members. Legal representation and collective bargaining rank highest in importance of benefits to being an APOA member. Most requested additional benefits are member/family events and better communication. Most requested form of communication: regular email updates. Members express a strong need for strength, communication, honesty, equality, transparency and reliability from APOA. Job Satisfaction: Close to 80% of members feel let down by APD leadership and 99% say on the job morale is low. The factors most responsible for low morale are public opinion and media portrayal. 62% of members want more training. 98% of members feel there are NOT enough police officers on duty, in the field, at all times to meet the needs of the public. Administrative Support: 76% of members disapprove of current police chiefs performance 95% of members disapprove of current mayors performance 92% of members believe politics is the driving force behind recent APD policy changes? 71% of members feel poorly equipped to effectively serve and protect the people of Albuquerque, mainly due to lack of ongoing training and lack of manpower. Members feel the mayor does not support them and needs to urgently hire more officers and honor the contracted pay raises. Community & Media Relations: Only 62% of members feel they have a strong connection to the community. Members feel pride in protecting and serving the community and feel the public views them with some, not full, trust and respect. 77% of members say that community support, or lack of, affects their job performance. Close to 99% of members say media portrayal affects public opinion of APD and its officers.
