Circuit Breaker Condition Assessments

Comprehensive circuit breaker condition assessments

Audits for Transmission and Distribution equipment Siemens has a strong heritage of expertise across Transmission and Distribution equipment. Our audit tools have been specifically developed for the performance of objective, transparent and comparable condition assessments Siemens assessments provide the basis for a targeted maintenance strategy of critical substation assets like high voltage gas insulated switchgear (GIS), high voltage circuit breakers, power transformers and medium voltage switchgear. The results of assessments with our audits tools are properly documented with multilingual audit reports. Each report includes a graphical representation of the circuit breaker condition, comprehensive audit information, a statement about the environmental impact of the circuit breaker condition as well as recommendations for condition based maintenance.

Audits for High Voltage Circuit Breakers Siemens audits for high voltage circuit breakers are structured as follows: Gathering of circuit breaker General Information, like technical and historical data about the CB operation, years of operation, performed maintenance procedures, customer remarks, etc. Visual Inspection with the circuit breaker in operation to evaluate the environment of the installation, stress of operation, condition of pole columns, base, operating mechanisms, etc. Extended Diagnostic to perform functional checks of the secondary system and measurements like operating time, resistance of main contacts, SF6 analysis, etc.

Assessing the Condition of Circuit Breakers A circuit breaker condition assessment with our audits tools can include the following activities:

General Information Analysis of key data like substation arrangement years of operation, performed maintenance procedures, major faults, short circuits, etc. Visual Inspection Environment Evaluation of installation area, environmental conditions, altitude of site and seismic activity Stress Type of operation, number of operations Insulators of pole column Assessment of chamber-, post- and closing resistor insulators Pole column Assessment of sealing joints, flanges, grading capacitors, corona shielding and pressure relief devices Operating mechanism Analysis of external condition, oil levels, leakages, compressors, air dryers, exhaust valves, corrosion protection and contact position indicators Secondary system Inspection of anti condensation heating and cable connectors Base frame / supporting pillars Inspection of surface protection, key seat washers and grounding SF6 gas Analysis of SF6 indicators. Evaluation of customer remarks about gas condition. Gas piping inspection

It is safer to take care beforehand

Extended Diagnostic Operating mechanisms Measurement of operating times. Functional check of electrical and mechanical functions Interrupter units and contact systems Resistance measurements. Inspection of interrupter units, intermediate gear box and closing resistors SF6 gas analysis Search for leakages, inspection of density monitor and measurements of dew point, decomposition products and volume percentage Secondary system Functional checks of signals, alarms and monitoring systems
