Even if you are planning to work as an engineer, scientist or lawyer (just to name a few), you may ultimately want to work as the manager of a firm, or run your own business. Combining your engineering or science or law studies with a Bachelor of Commerce gives you a head start. You graduate equipped to operate in a commercial setting. If you combine a Bachelor of Commerce with a Bachelor of Economics you can major in Economics, Accounting and Finance. This very popular combination of three majors sets graduates apart from the rest in the employment market. Combining a Bachelor of Commerce with an Arts degree means that you can continue to study a language or pick up a new one. You can also include majors like politics or geography in your studies. This can be particularly beneficial if you have ambitions in international business, politics or diplomacy.

Eight electives from Business and Economics or from any other faculty. With careful unit selection, students are able to complete three majors, the most popular combination is: accounting, economics and finance. High achieving Year 12 students will be eligible for the Bachelor of Commerce Scholars program/Bachelor of Economics. As a Scholar, you will receive a $6000 per annum scholarship, mentoring by senior faculty staff, and access to a Scholar study room. You will be eligible to attend guest lecturers, workshops and seminars. The Scholars program is competitive and limited in number. You will need an ATAR of 98+

How does it work?

Many Monash courses include some compulsory units (which you must do) and some elective units (you can choose). You can usually choose elective units from another area if you wish so your elective units can be units which are compulsory in another course. This means that, in a double degree, some units will count both as compulsory units in one degree and as elective units in the other. You still normally study 24 units to complete a course (4 units per semester) but you dont add the number of units in each course together to get the total number of units required in double degrees.

What is the difference between a double major and a double degree?

A double major is when you specialise in two different areas within one degree, for example accounting and international business. A double degree allows you to study two separate degrees at the same time. The way they are structured enable you to graduate with both awards in a much shorter time than it would take to complete the two degrees individually. You will have the same workload as a single degree course.
