Lesson Plan format

Topic : Direct and Indirect Speech (Narration) Objectives: (a) General Objectives To enable students to gain proficiency in written and spoken English. (b)Specific Objectives: (i)To provide students with ample opportunities to gain proficiency in the use of Direct and Indirect speech. (ii) to provide practice to students in the transformation of sentences from Direct speech into indirect speech and vice-versa so that they develop the skill for correct use of written and spoken . Methodology/ Instructional Procedure As the first step towards the introduction of this topic the teacher will evaluate the entering behavior of the learners by checking their hold on the change of tense from present to past and vice-vers. For this he will ask the students to change the tense of the verbs in the following sentences as indicated against each: 1. I am ready for the task. (change into past tense) 2. My friends go to school by the school bus. 3. I saw the Taj in 2010. (Past pwerfect) 3. Father has bought me a watch. (change into Past Perfect) 4. I catch a bid. (Change into Past perfect) 5. The fishermen are singing a song. (Change into Past continuous) After ensuring that the students are proficient in changing the tense of verbs from one tense to another tense, the teacher will write the following conversation on the blackboard: Ali, Mala and Mary are sitting in the school canteen. (A:1) Ali said to Mala, I am feeling sick. (A:2) Mala said to Ali, Then you should see the school doctor. (A:3) Ali said, No, I do not want to see the doctor. (A:4) Mala said, That is not good. You should see the doctor. Ali and Mala leave the canteen and go to see the doctor. Mary does not go with them. Just after Ali and Mala have left, Gurmeet comes and asks Mary ,Did you see Ali this morning? Now Mary tells Ali: Ali was here a few minutes ago. He went to see the doctor .

(B:!)Ali told Mala that he was feeling sick. (B:2) Mala told him that he should see the school doctor. (B:3)Ali replied that he did not want to see the doctor. (B:4)Mala explained that that was not good and that he should see the doctor.

The teacher will ask the students to look at the sentences (A:1) to (A:4) and (B:1) to (B:4) carefully and compare them. he will take up the sentences one by one in relevant pairs, comparing (A:1) with (B:1), (A:2) with (B:2) so on and so forth. He will clarify that each pair means the same thing.The only difference lies
